A New Beginning

Naruto Fanfic Chapter One

Disclaimer: I don’t own Naruto or any of the characters. Nothing from the original story (manga/anime) belongs to me and it never will do.

This is my first Naruto story, it’s still in the making. I really hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it. It does have a plot and some of my own characters so I apologise if nothing seems to happen for the first few chapters but I believe that every good story should have a good foundation.

Main plot involves OC striving to prove herself as a ninja to the Hidden Leaf for the sake of her village. Based kinda just after Chuunin exams. Sorry if I don’t get stuff completely right. Will have eventual subplot of romance but I dunno whether I wanna write that as another story completely…we’ll see how you all like it.

This chapter general, suitable for all ages…I think. Don’t even think there any language…anyway, enjoy…and let me know what you think plz ; )

A New Beginning

It was a little after midway when the rattling cart finally halted at the huge red, wooden gates. It could go no further. The man leading the horse turned to the two women sitting in the vehicle. He wiped his brow and motioned for the elder of the two to come to him, “What are we going to do now?” she asked meekly. “What if they refuse to give us sanctuary?”

“They wouldn’t do that my love. The people of The Leaf are a noble and honest people. They will help us, they will protect us.”

“How will they know that we are here?”

“They have watchtowers, see?” the second woman pointed to the top of the walls. “They’re watching us. I can see about six ninja up there.”

“See honey, don’t worry they know that we’re here. They’ll come for us. Now could I have a little water please? It’s been a long walk today and I’m feeling quite weary.”

“Of course,” the woman returned to the cart and took a small vessel from a Hessian sack. As she turned to hand it to her husband a small cloud burst formed beside him. Startled she dropped the water-gourd and it broke over her feet. The water soaked quickly into the grass and her leather sandals. “Damn!” she huffed knowing that they had no more.

“I’m so sorry if I startled you,” a young man now stood where the cloud had formed. “I am a border control nin. I have been sent to ascertain your sudden arrival at our gates. We were not expecting any guest to our village.”

“Excuse me young man, my name is Ubitzu Hayate and this is my wife Kimaso, daughters Kamake and Ileo.” He motioned to the cart. As he handed the relevant papers to the younger man a small girl crawled out from under the thick blanket laid over the back of the cart. She climbed up to sit with the older girl who was rocking back and forth slightly running her fingers through her hair.

The young ninja looked at the two girls and then back at the papers in his hand, “Ok, and what is you’re purpose in Konoha?”

Kamake looked on as her father began to tell the man about the raid on their village. She could feel her younger sister trembling next to her. She understood why and decided to interrupt. “Father, wouldn’t it be best to talk about this with the Hokage? Preferably not in front of Ileo. She’s been through too much to have to relive it all again right now.”

Her father looked a little surprised at her sudden opinion on the matter, “Yes I know but this ninja needs to know the details otherwise they wont allow us refuge within their walls!”

“He can allow us temporary permission, if only to escort us to the Hokage,” she interjected. “Isn’t that right?”

“Well yes but I’ll have to square it with my superior. Will you be ok to wait here for a moment while I go and authorise the opening of the gate?”

“We’ve come this far, I suppose a few moment more wont be too much for us to wait.”

As quickly as he had arrived the ninja disappeared and they were alone again waiting anxiously.

“How did you know about the Hokage?” Kimaso asked her eldest child. “Did they teach you that at the academy?”

“Yes, we don’t just learn how to fight Mom. We have to learn about other lands and village cultures. The Hokage is the Leaf Village’s elder. Her name is Tsunade. She replaced the Third Hokage a couple of years ago when Orochimaru killed him at their Chuunin exams. After he declared war on the village we had to learn all sorts of things about their history and culture. The senseis told us that we had been called upon in the past to fight alongside the ninja of the Leaf and that the time would come that we would need their help. So they trained us in diplomacy. We have to see the Hokage. Not just to ask for sanctuary but to ask her to help our village. We were lucky mother, we got away.”

Her mother was dumbstruck. She could not believe how wise her daughter had become. She was almost 18 and had been enrolled in the Ninja Academy from the age of two when her father noticed her keen eye and intelligence. In their hometown you only went to school if it would benefit the community. Kamake had quickly shown that she was not only intelligent and passionate but that she was a keen and able fighter too and so her tutors had recommended that she join the ninja school. It was clear to her parents that their child was no longer a follower but had been given the skills to be a leader and was now showing that she was more than capable to use them.

A loud groan escaped the gate as the locking mechanism creaked into life opening the huge doorway just enough to allow the cart to pass through. The young ninja was waiting on the other side waving his arms motioning for them to proceed.

Once inside the family took account of their surroundings. The village was busy. People were bustling along the dusty streets and children were playing ninja in a nearby shop doorway. It was so much like where they had lived all their lives. A happy place.

“You said you wanted to see the Hokage?” the ninja asked Hayate.

“Yes, my daughter has informed me that your Hokage may be able to help our village.”

The young man glanced at Kamake, “I will have to take you straight to her. I do apologise about all this. We have unfortunately had a few problems of our own recently and have had to step up our security.”

“That’s understandable,” Kamake remarked, “what with Orochimaru on the warpath again.”

“Huh?”

“That’s why we’re here,” she continued. “He’s the one that attacked our village.”

The man’s eyes widened and he quickly took hold of the horse pulling it firmly along the road. “Well, that is interesting. The Hokage will definitely want to know about this.”

Kamake awoke to the sound of sobbing. She opened her eyes and strained to see. The room was dark, it was still night-time. “Ileo? Are you ok?” she whispered to her sister. There was no reply, the five year old just carried on sobbing. Kamake slipped her legs out from the sheets and slowly made her way to her sister’s bed. She could just make out the small bundle shaking on the mattress, her face buried in the pillow. She sat down beside her and placed her hand on the small girl’s back. “Everything is going to be ok now, Ileo. We’re going to be fine. You’re safe now.”

“I k-k-know,” she stuttered. “But w-w-we l-left ev-ev-everyone behind!”

“We had to leave. We couldn’t stay little sister. I know that you’re young but you are a clever girl and I’m sure that you can understand that sometimes you just have to leave people behind. Our ninja are still fighting for our people Ileo but they cannot win on their own. Their only chance of success is if we can get help.”

“B-but w-w-what if they w-w-wont help us?”

“This is the Village Hidden in the Leaves, they will help us. We are all fighting the same thing. We just have to hope that our ninja can keep up their side of the battle until we can help.”

“Kamake?”

“Yes?”

“Are you going to fight?” her younger sibling enquired. There was an almost undetectable edge of worry to her voice.

Kamake thought carefully for a moment before answering, “Perhaps. Now, try and get some sleep. You have a big day in the morning. The Lady Hokage said that you could join the ninja academy here. It will help you to make friends and to teach you about what it is that I do. Then maybe you wont be so worried about me all of the time. I have told you before, I will do everything that I can to protect you and that I will always come back to you. You are my kid sister and I love you.” With that she kissed Ileo’s forehead and pulled the sheets up over her body before making her way back to her own bed.

With a heavy sigh she began to think about when she was Ileo’s age. She had already passed her Genin exam by then and had just started her missions. Her academy was no different to the one here in the Leaf Village. They were pretty much the same in all the villages and occasionally students from different villages would cross paths. Sometimes it was a good experience but more often that not it was a bad one. Her mind wandered to the last picture she had of their village. Fire in the dark and screaming, lots of screaming. The attack had come in the middle of the night and without warning. Hoards of rebel ninja had descended on them from all sides. They had killed whoever came before them; men, women and children. Shinobi and citizens alike. Luckily her father was an advisor to the elders and was granted immediate access to an escape route normally reserved only for the use of the council members, not their families. Her father had been instructed to protect the village’s scrolls. It had been Kamake’s idea to come to the Leaf village for help, and now they were here. They had travelled for maybe a hundred miles, walking and riding in the cart alternately. It had taken them about three days to travel and her legs were hurting her. Even with all her training she still hadn’t been quite ready for the sudden rush to survive. Evenso, she was glad that they had made it here. Not only that but this was her chance to prove that she had what it takes to be a true shinobi. For her parents to see that was a gifted ninja…and a dangerous one! Lady Hokage had noticed immediately how skilled she was. She had commented that had Kamake grown up in this village she would have been an ANBU by now. Kamake had had to explain to her parents that this was a team of elite ninjas who would often be sent into the battlefield alone to carry out missions -that they were the best of the best. They had seemed a little taken aback by this and had simply answered with an, “Oh?”

She glanced back down at Ileo who had quietened down but was still shaking a little. “The ninja of this village are extremely skilled and have great experience of war. I’m sure they will help us Ileo,” Kamake gently stroked her sister’s hair and pulled her legs up onto the bed.

“Will you fight?” the smaller girl asked again.

Kamake laid down close to Ileo knowing that the small girl was grateful for the comfort, “Yes.”
