But first they must recruit two new vampires Lucy Emerson and Shane Powers. But just when they think it's almost over, they discover the quest to get the Tribe back, has only just begun...

Sam’s POV

“They’re still out there, we have to find them. And stake them!” Edgar hissed slamming his fist on the table.

“Edgar, it’s been a week and we still haven’t found them. They could be any where by now” I told him.

For a week the image of Ryan laying there her grey eyes glassy and a white thorn stake sticking out of her chest, Blood spilling over her chest, mouth slightly open gasping for her last breathes.

“Sam, they’re still around. They would be too weak too go anywhere” Allan said.

“And there hasn’t been a single missing person or murder in a week. A new record for Santa Carla. Which means they haven’t fed” Edgar added.

I nodded, I knew they were right. I just didn’t want to admit it.

“Where could they be though, we’ve checked everywhere” I said.

“Sam, remember if we don’t kill them. Then we’ll have to kill some one else” Allan hissed.

I flinched at this; Allan sure had hit a soft spot there.

Max had bitten my mom before he had died. And being bitten is different then drinking blood. When the head vampire died it didn’t mean the bitten ones went back to normal. You had to kill every vampire in the tribe. My mom had locked herself in her room, saying she was too ashamed to even look at us.

“I know” I said staring out at the rain.

David’s POV

“I’m going to bed” Ryan told me getting up from the chair she was sitting in.

“I’m going to stay up for a little while longer, I’ll be up soon” I told her.

She nodded and walked up the stairs.

I watched her walk up the stair. Ryan was the only thing I had left, and I was the only thing she had left.

We were still living at Max’s; we had been for about a week. We both needed time to heal, but we couldn’t leave to feed in fear of being seen. So we were both starving.

I had moved Max’s old bed into the spare room were Ryan slept so that I could keep an eye on her. That girl just seemed to attract trouble.

I sighed a rubbed my temple as a huge headache attacked me as I thought of the events of last week.

The boys, I couldn’t believe they were gone. Marko had gotten staked, Paul had been pushed into a tub of holey water, Dwayne had gotten an arrow right through the heart, Max had had gotten a post pierce his heart, and I would have been mounted on a set of antlers if it wasn’t for Ryan.

I sighed rubbing my forehead and deiced to take my mind off of last week’s event and took out the map.

I ran my eyes over it, where could we stay? It had to be somewhere we never been in before. It had to be a place with lots of night life, and a large variety of humans.

I circled a couple of cities that we had to visit to see if we liked it. And maybe get more vampires. I didn’t want to do that; no one could ever replace the guys or Max. But we were talking about getting revenge and we couldn’t do that unless we had more vampires and were stronger.

We had to go to the cave and get the bikes too. But those kids could always be waiting at the cave though. But they might not be, they might think we’re long gone by now.

I sighed, we were just going to have to risk it, and I had to get the bottle anyway.

I got up and walked over to the fridge and took out a flask of Max’s blood and took a swig.

The taste of the old blood was bitter and distasteful, but it helped take away my hunger.

Then the hairs on my neck stood up and a shiver went down my back.

Something wasn’t right.

I glanced up to the stairs and slowly began walking up them.

When I reached the door to Ryan’s room I stopped and sniffed the air. Someone else was in there, Ryan wasn’t alone.

I reached for the door knob and paused.

“Come in David” a man’s voice said.

I knew that voice, no it couldn’t be him. It just couldn’t

I opened the door. And there he was, standing there next to a sleeping Ryan.

“What are you doing here?” I hissed.

He ignored my question and just stared down at Ryan.

“My, my, my David. She is a young one isn’t she?” he said and touched her cheek.

“Get away from her” I hissed.

He took his hand away but didn’t move back.

“What do you want?” I asked slowly trying to contain my anger, what the hell was he doing here.

“Calm down David, I’m here to do you a favor” he said talking calmly.

I didn’t say anything just glared at him. Why would he want do to me a favor?

“I heard chatter that about a week ago everyone in Max’s tribe was killed off, except for two. And when I heard your name, I knew I had to come down” he said taking a few steps forward.

“That still doesn’t explain why you’re here” I said matching his calmness.

“David, David, David. I can help you, I can help you bring them back” he said.

I thought about this for a moment, he would never help me unless there was something in it for him.

“What’s in it for you?” I asked.

“I thought you’d ask that. You’re always on your guard, never letting it down. That’s what I like about you David. But you’re right, there is something in it for me”

He paused.

“Well what do want?” I asked keeping my cool. There was no way I was going to let him get to me.

“It’s not what I want David, it’s who I want”

“And who would that be?” I asked.

“You see David; there were two things that I’ve always wanted in life and in the after life. A wife and children”

He looked over at Ryan.

“Well that’s too bad, because you can’t have Ryan” I told him smugly.

“I thought you might say that. Ever since you became a vampire, family was always important to you wasn’t it? And she actually shares more blood with you than any other vampire, doesn’t she?” he said.

I stiffened, how did he know that?

He gave a small laugh.

“I know everything David” he said answering my thoughts.

Then he continued.

“But you don’t have to worry, dear David. Although it would be the easy way to take Ryan on as a daughter I knew you would never give her up. No, I just want to be the head vampire once I help you bring them back”

“What about Max?” I asked.

“Max will play a very important part in the Tribe, once I take over. He will be put as head vampire also, our blood will mix. But I will have control” he told me.

“Why would you want to have him as co-head vampire?” I asked suspiciously.

“That way, if I’m killed, they will still be Max. And if Max is killed they will still be me” he explained.

“And why should I trust you?”

He walked over to Ryan.

“Because, if you don’t you lose all hope. Never be able to see Max or your boys again. And you’ll be all alone” he said then flicked out a switch blade.

He traced Ryan’s throat with it, but not pressing down hard enough to cut through the skin.

“Now normally, slicing a vampire’s throat will not kill them. But if the sun is coming out, they haven’t fed in a while and are weak, they have no chance” he taunted.

I wasn’t scared of anything especially not him. But he knew my weakness, he knew that my only fears were losing someone I loved, and being alone.

“What did you mean by wife then?” I asked.

“Well Max bit Lucy before he died, and since you and Ryan are still living. She is still half, she refuses to feed. You must change her mind, I’m getting old now David, and every vampire needs a mate at one point” he said still keeping the blade next to the sleeping Ryan’s throat.

“Fine” I hissed.

“Good choice” he said giving a wide toothy grin and flicking the blade back in.

“Meet me at the cave, tomorrow night” he said then walked out of the house.
