A/N: Rewritten Lovestruck. Sigh. I can’t believe I had to write this from scratch. Turns out I forgot to save the file as backup in case something happened(something like this. Wah.T.T).
I wrote this in two days. I had to reread it and edit some parts just because. Sigh. I really despise myself right about now. And somehow, I feel that this couldn’t even match up to the original.T.T
Disclaimer: I don’t own Naruto
Lovestruck
It had only been a few minutes after sunrise but Itachi was already on his way to ANBU headquarters. Leaving the Uchiha district early had been the right choice, for he could now take his time and walk to HQ.
Although it was his day off, it was the middle of summer and during this time, they had to begin looking for new recruits.
Sound’s attempt to invade Konoha had left them with little numbers to work with and former elite member had bluntly refused their offers.
Kakashi had said ‘No’ even though they had offered him a paycheck higher than that of an ANBU captain (which was a lot.). He refused saying that he was still on his pursuit on the meaning of life.
More like in pursuit of more pornography.
He assumed his brother was going to be taking the tests this season. After all, their father had been pressuring Sasuke to take the ANBU exams since he had become jounin.
Personally, he didn’t think Sasuke was ready. Although his brother has amazed everybody with his quick promotions, he didn’t think he could take the missions of ANBU. He was a little too rash with his decisions, choosing to rush head on into battle without even thinking about plans. That just spelled death for a team who deemed subtlety their main priority.
And surprisingly enough, his little brother agreed as well. Sasuke had told him that he was just doing this to spite their beloved father. He supposed that was just part of a reason. Whatever reason he had other than that, he didn’t know but he had a hunch that it had something to do with his brother’s girlfriend.
She must have convinced him not to join.
Although he respected the Hokage’s prized apprentice and her ways of battle, she worried too much. She should understand that shinobi risk their lives everyday whether they were killing a said to be unstoppable missing-nin or even chasing a cat around town.
Thinking about the pink-haired medic-nin, he remembered how their parents had been thoroughly elated when they found out Sasuke had been dating the Godaime Hokage’s student.
Looks, brains and of course an extremely high stand in society were all the requirements for an Uchiha wife. Itachi did feel slightly sorry for the nice girl but this was all her doing. From what he heard from his brother, the famous healer had been chasing after him since they were thirteen and he had decided to date her when she turned chuunin.
He had recently heard some gossip that the Haruno girl was going to be promoted to jounin in a few days by the Hokage because of her outstanding performance during a showdown with Sasori of Akatsuki.
If she managed to take down someone as strong as the puppet master, she would surely someday make a great candidate for ANBU.
Speaking of which, the exam takers of this season were… a little below par.
Thinking about the current candidates for ANBU, he frowned. Only a few had been the least bit significant.
Now that he he’d though of it, he deemed that only the male Hyuuga would be the only one worthy enough to be called a hunter-nin. He had read throughout all of his accomplishments, reaching jounin at the age of seventeen was quite a feat and if managed to get into ANBU while he was only eighteen, the esteemed Hyuuga clan would be even more elated.
Speaking of the esteemed Hyuuga clan, they had recently offered Haruno Sakura, his brother's girlfriend, a marriage proposal. Well, if it wasn't that obvious he supposed they were really looking for some trouble with his family. And he also supposed that said marriage proposal was going to be with the very same young male Hyuuga.
Well, perhaps that one man would pass. He certainly hoped he’d be the one to test him. It would certainly be interesting if the Hyuuga clan’s best could actually cause him to fight seriously.
If he remembered correctly, his brother was well acquainted with the young Hyuuga.
Oh well. At least he hoped Sasuke would be happy when he discovered that Itachi nearly killed the man who’s trying to steal his beloved Sakura.
:)
Itachi twitched in irritation, he couldn’t believe this was happening to him. Absolutely not him. Sure this could happen to anyone but surely not
This is just a nightmare.
But reality seems to love to smite the black-haired man because he can’t seem to wake up from this horrid incident.
“Man. She beat you up good, Uchiha.” Shiranui Genma said as he pulled his mask aside to look at Itachi and smirk, “And she still looks good. Damn, I wish my girl would have that kind of stamina.” He whistled and smiled at the pink-haired girl suggestively while she healed him.
Not even sparing the flirting man a glance, she continued to heal Itachi.
Speaking of whom, could barely recall what had happened. It had all been too quick.
:)
Itachi entered ANBU HQ with barely a hint of excitement at what he was about to do. Usually, veterans enjoyed messing with the new recruits but the raven-haired Uchiha was all about business.
Entering through a large door that led to a spacious field inside the facility, he seemed to have created a thicker tension than there was before he arrived. The candidates back stood ramrod straight as he observed them one by one.
Really. The fact that an ANBU captain who might just influence one’s entrance into this special elite group of shinobi, really shouldn’t cause any unneeded inner turmoil. Well, at least that’s what said ANBU captain who might just influence one’s entrance into this special elite group of shinobi thought.
Back to the task at hand, most of the participants had been shinobi who had been tested before but failed miserably but there was one surprising candidate among all of them.
A little girl with pink hair.
Well, little girl wasn’t exactly the right description but she was to Itachi. The ebony-haired man stood at an intimidating height of six feet while she, he assumed, could barely reached five feet and four inches. This certainly told everyone more than himself that there was no way this little girl could break it down with the big league. Besides...
Isn’t she supposed to be a chuunin?
Genma, his partner in this particularly uninteresting assignment, had been checking if the participants were in proper order for their matches.
The test was fairly simple. They were going to fight a member who’s been on the active roster for the past month while under strict observation from the elders. And if they win, they’re immediately promoted to ANBU and if they lose, it’ll depend whether they’ve exhibited exemplary skills on the battlefield.
There were hardly any wins from the new recruits before. How could it be so different from right now? Most of them just got in by using exemplary jutsus at the face of danger. But of course, young Itachi won his match against the elite. That's what you would expect from the Uchiha heir.
“Hyuuga Neji, jounin.” He heard Genma say as he scanned the piece of paper for the Hyuuga’s name.
Itachi inwardly frowned. The Hyuuga had been assigned to fight Yamato. Scanning the list once more, he was the only person he deemed to be worthy enough for his attention. How annoying.
After a mere fifteen minutes, the match had been decided. Hyuuga Neji had won by closing all of Yamato’s chakra points to the point that the man couldn’t even through a kunai at the white-eyed Hyuuga. It really had been interesting to watch the prodigy of the Hyuuga clan. Too bad he couldn’t fight him as well.
“Haruno Sakura, chuunin.” Genma announced as a young girl with a huge smile approached them.
He saw Genma smirk and muttered to himself regarding wolf in sheep’s clothing. Turning around, the womanizing jerk slapped him on the back and said, “Well Itachi, at least don’t hit her face, I’m not sure your brother will appreciate it. Besides, it’ll be a waste.” He said as he winked at the Godaime’s apprentice before stepping off the battle field.
“Chauvinist pig.” He heard her mutter before taking on a stance.
Itachi inwardly rolled his eyes. There really was no point to this fight.
Of course, he had never really seen the young woman fight before but he could clearly see that he could defeat her in a little less than five minutes.
“You should forfeit this match now before you attain injuries that my little brother would certainly not be happy about.”
She saw the medic roll her eyes at him, “Shut up Uchiha and just try to hit me.” She told him determinedly.
This girl is as stubborn as they come.
Thinking that he should just end this waste of time, Itachi had attacked first but he was surprised by Sakura’s sudden movement to hit the ground that he stopped mid-attack.
He saw the medic punch the ground with her hand and create a huge crater sending thousands of pieces of hard rock flying into the air, causing an explosion of dust.
And then it happened all too quickly, he felt her punches to the left, right, left. It was the first time he ever felt his two arms break just because of a simple punch.
His back had reached the wall before she socked him an uppercut that sent the Uchiha flying into the air. And finishing her series of attacks with a kick to his ribs he was sent rocketing to the ground.
Everyone was in a state of shock. The announcer even took a few moments of awkward gaping at the scene of Uchiha Itachi with broken bones at the feet of a pink-haired chuunin before announcing the winner, “Haruno Sakura!”
:)
“I’m really sorry, Uchiha-san. I didn’t mean to!” Sakura said frantically as she healed him expertly, her small hands roaming his body as the healing chakra took its effect.
She cradled his upper body with one arm while her free hand scanned his body with her healing chakra. Itachi felt numb all throughout his entire body but at least she had thought to fix what she had broken.
Looking at the pink-haired medic, he finally knew why his brother was so captivated with the young woman. She was so… undeniably pretty.
Her emerald green eyes only proved to be a match made in heaven with her wavy pink hair and pale coloring. She hardly looked like she could hurt even a fly, a very useful deception during battle.
But this battle only proved otherwise. And now that she’s exhibiting her miraculous healing abilities there’s no doubt that the observers of this match wouldn’t think twice about letting her in to active duty.
“Sakura-san,” Perhaps it was the concussion talking, “Will you accompany me to dinner this evening?” But he hardly cared.
He faintly heard Genma, who stood at the edge of the battlefield with Hyuuga Neji, say before making a face, “Man. Never knew the Uchiha was such a masochist.”
A/N: I have to say. Nothing beats the original.
I tried my best on this one. I hope you guys like it.
Please, oh please, tell me what you think about this rewritten one.T.T
