Potion 101: Unexpected Affections

Chapter 1: Close Encounters and Intimidating Looks

“He’s too cold and mean, as if there were no people around him! Hiwatari’s like a school robot; in fact, he’s just a stupid ignorant who excels at school. There’s nothing special with him, so why is he fantasized by almost every girl here?” Risa said out loud, like she didn’t care if the crowd can hear what she is saying, even if the said “robot” is included in that crowd.

Satoshi moved forward, towards the girl who made the boy genius a laughing stock. “You know Miss Harada, if that’s what you think about me and you’re proudly telling it to each and everyone present, then let me share my views. You’re the most perfect person in this world. You’re the prettiest, kindest and the most appreciative witch I ever saw in my life. I’m glad to say that.” After Satoshi announced his “retaliatory statement”, he left and went
home.

The younger Harada’s mind went blank, still thinking about Satoshi’s remarks. Why she said that? The reason why is because she longed to hear him react in the same situation, in front of everyone. But it didn’t happen according to what was planned. It was never meant to hurt him; she just wanted to see his reaction.

“He referred to me as witch, and I’m not. I was just trying to make him react. It was not true, even one piece of the puzzle of words I said. Well, he wasn’t dumb, not really, and he’s good looking. He’s not stupid, he’s not a robot; I knew all of these, and still I lied, I even made a fool out of him. Maybe, I’ll just try to apologize to him tomorrow. I just don’t want to mess up someone’s world, especially Hiwatari’s. I really want to make my conscience clear.” Risa said, looking at the mirror.

…THE NEXT DAY…

Their teacher came at exactly 7 o’clock, the class was mostly complete.“Good morning, everyone! Now let’s see if there’s anyone absent.”

“Niwa?” “Present!”
“Saehara?” “I’m here ma’am.”
…

The morning roll call continued. At the middle of the attendance check…

“Sorry, ma’am, I arrived late. I can see that the roll call is nearing its end. Please pardon me for my tardiness.” It was the school valedictorian. When Risa saw him, she became nervous. Satoshi glanced at her, and Risa found it very intimidating.

“Morning, Hiwatari! How’s your day today?” Daisuke asked, eager to know if Satoshi’s still mad about the remarks he received yesterday. “I’m fine, Niwa. In fact I’m so happy today. I felt that something good will happen.” He looked at Daisuke with a sly smile. “Satoshi, you’re scaring me!” Daisuke said, feeling that something bad will happen, and the upcoming happening is surely, the work of Satoshi’s brilliant mind. Satoshi laughed and approached the teacher.

“What is it, Hiwatari?” The teacher was a bit surprised; it was Satoshi’s first time to have a talk with her. The class paid attention to their strange classmate, who is famous for making girls fall for him, even if he ignores them.

“Ma’am, can you please do me a favor?” Satoshi said in a voice loud enough for the class to hear. The fun starts here. Satoshi thought as he talked to the teacher.
“Of course, Satoshi, can you tell me what is that you want?”
“Ma’am can we have some changes in the seating arrangement?”
“What kind of seating arrangement do you like, Hiwatari?
“Well ma’am, I want myself to be seated beside Risa Harada.”

The class made different reactions: the girls envied Risa, Daisuke nearly fainted and Riku started to pinch herself, just to know if she is just dreaming. Risa don’t want to be seated near Satoshi. She then thought, He’s doing this for vengeance.

“Okay Hiwatari, you may sit beside her. I can see that there’s nothing wrong with what you requested. Okay class, to continue with our lesson…”

Satoshi picked his things up and went to his new seat. “Don’t worry, dear Risa. My show’s gonna start later, and you’re going to be the main attraction.” Upon hearing those words, she again, felt nervous. “What do you mean by that, Hiwatari? Are you starting to threaten me?” “Just wait and see, Miss Harada. You’ll surely like it.”

“Goodbye, class!” Their teacher swiped the door card and the door opened. She then left the building, where the high school students are located.

Because Satoshi is voted as the president of his class (due to the winning votes of the girls), one of his duties is to officially announce the start of their break (Weird, isn’t it?).

“My fellow classmates, before I let you go wandering on the corridors of our prestigious school, I would like to introduce to you the queen of this class, the most attractive and the smartest woman of our generation, Miss Risa Harada! Would you please move forward, so that they can all see you?” Satoshi‘s putting his malevolent plan into action, and he’s doing it for real. Risa felt humiliated, her classmates are laughing at her. She really felt that she’s the main attraction.

The said queen stood up and went near Satoshi. “What do you have against me, Hiwatari?!” Riku tried to stop Risa for starting an argument, but it didn’t work. Risa’s ready to begin her power yell. She is really furious this time. “Classmates, would you please leave the room? I want to have a private conversation with our highness.” All of their classmates left the room upon hearing those words; it is ordinary that the class would follow what their president tells them to do so.

“Risa, now that we are the only ones left in this room, let me talk to you seriously.” Satoshi started to move closer, Risa moved back. “I didn’t like what you said about me yesterday, in fact, I didn’t like any of what you said. You’re causing dilemmas in my life. Can’t you just simply understand that I can’t make myself sociable to you and the others? Being the top student in the class is the only way I can establish a good reputation. What’s the matter with you?”

Risa’s back is at the wall and she’s starting to feel something different. Satoshi’s face is too close; she started to observe his face scrupulously, noticing some details she never seen before. She realized, just now, that he is almost perfect.

“You're too close, Satoshi!” Risa said, reminding Satoshi that he's too near.
“What do you mean?”
“I mean your face... It's too close to mine...”
“Does that even matter now?“
“Well, uh... I was just saying that you're to close...”
“Do you want me to go closer?”
“Satoshi, please, don't intimidate me.”
“I'm not intimidating you.”
“Then what are you doing?”
“...” He starting to move closer, as if he was gonna kiss her. Risa closed her eyes and waited until something happens.
