AUTHOR'S NOTES: D GRAY MAN has managed to consume my imagination. I can't help it! ; n; There's just so much I can do with that series. I mean, you guys should read Baka-Usagi, my other WIP. It's AU, so you don't have to know the series to read it. I update that more. I feel bad for not updating this, but I really haven't given two shits about Death Note lately. Excuse the blunt rudeness there. It's just, I finished the series almost two years ago. There's not much writing for it I can still do, you know? I do, however, want to finish this.

So here it is, late and short. An update.

DISCLAIMER: Don't own. Don't plan to own. Want a cookie. Starving.

There was crimson seeping through the black fabric of Mello’s shirt and between the fingers that pressed against the wound. Blue eyes seemed to stare down in disbelief. Had his best friend really just stabbed him? The blood on his fingers was more than enough to answer that.

The white stripes of Matt’s shirt were dyed red with the same sticky substance in spots. He had been cut too. Cut and punched and bruised, and if his best friend wasn’t bleeding in front of him, he figured that he would have been immense amounts of pain. However, his best friend was bleeding, and the thought alone made the world stop spinning. Mello was bleeding because of him.

“Dude, I’m sorry. I’m so fucking sorry!” exclaimed the formerly raging gamer. He pulled himself off Isak whom he didn’t even care enough to look down at and see if he was still alive. The world had came to a screeching halt, almost enough to make Matt feel sick to his stomach. He couldn’t believe what he had done. Of all the people who were supposed to be involved, who were supposed to be hurt, Mello hadn’t been one of them.

And when he reached up to tend to his friend, he was shocked to see his hand pushed away. “Don’t fucking touch me, Matt,” the blond stated viciously as he backed away from Matt and sank to his knees. The gash wasn’t fatal, but it was long and deep, as if all Matt’s anger had been in that swing. It had been, but it wasn’t supposed to hit Mello. Things weren’t supposed to go so wrong.

It was nothing like Matt had planned it. He was supposed to do this alone. Get his revenge. Had he really planned to kill anybody? Thinking about it, he wasn’t even sure anymore. He just needed to get everything out, to release all the anger and frustration that had began to build ever since the day he saw Near lying in a pool of his own blood, near death, on that floor. But it wasn’t supposed to go like this.

“I’m sorry,” the redhead whispered, his voice cracking from anger and maybe sadness gripping at his throat.

“I told you we should have dropped this, you fucking dumb ass,” the Russian teen stated. His hands were coated in blood by this point, ivory skin painted thick in crimson. And Matt hated to admit just how right Mello was because everything had gone so irrevocably wrong. And when Near found out, he would be angry, even angrier that Matt had done something so stupid. And Matt just wished he could take it all back.

But he couldn’t.

There was a strange, slow clap and the sound of footsteps drawing closer. “Bravo,” Ivory’s voice called out, and the gamer could hear the malice dripping in her voice as she nearer, “I didn’t think you had it in you to try and take out on of your own.

“However, you did hurt my brother. And that,” she paused, and Matt could hear the clicking of---was that a gun she had? “is a big no-no. So, Matt, it’s been quite fun, you know? Watching you fight so much and all. Quite the laugh!”

“But now, it’s time to say good-night. Forever.”

Before Mello could flinch, before Matt could even thinking of moving, there was a searing pain going through his entire body, and the world spun sickeningly on its side. The pain was blinding, and his mind didn’t register the door to the apartment flying opening. And as he fell to his side, he could just barely make out the forms of white pajamas and a hoard of black-clad men rushing in. But there was another loud bang, and the blinding pain only grew worse. Emerald eyes fluttered shut, and the world disappeared.

ENDING NOTES: Still not over. But damn, hah, I feel bad for Matt. Reviews make updates faster.
