#21 - The Devil's Advocate

“Sheena, baby?” the red-haired Chosen sidled up to the raven-haired ninja with a sly smile on his face, to hide the him that was breaking apart inside. Yggdrasil had literally given him the offer of a lifetime. A chance to get rid of the ‘Chosen’ title, and for Seles to be released from the Abbey. After the leader of Cruxis got his hands on Colette, anyways, the Chosen title would be just that, a title. There’d be no more Chosens of Regeneration.

“Hands to yourself, and eyes above my neck,” Sheena said automatically before even deigning to look at him. “What do you want?”

“Well, ya know me, I’m the type to like to chillax in my mansion, not run around the world to save somebody who was ready to die anyways,” Zelos shrugged casually. He could feel her rising anger already, and hastened to continue. “I mean, not that I have anything against my tiny angel, but well, maybe she was just meant to die.”

“I can’t believe you’d say something like that!” Zelos winced as she completely blew up at him. “I always knew you were an insensitive person, but how can you just say so casually that we should just let Colette die?!”

“Hey, all I’m saying is, since Colette was ready to die all her life, I mean, dying a little later than she expected wouldn’t be too hard on her, right?” Zelos protested, continuing with his reasoning. Getting Sheena to agree with his line of thought was absolutely crucial here. “And you and I both know that Lloyd and Genis have been mentally preparing themselves just in case they fail in protecting her someday. You’ve never seen the looks they give her when they think no one’s watching?”

“So are you saying that we should just give Colette up to Cruxis?” Sheena demanded, looking pretty pissed off.

“Well… pretty much, yeah.”

He didn’t even bother dodging the punch she threw at him. He probably deserved it, and it would only piss her off even more if he dodged.

“You… you asshole!” Sheena shouted furiously, her eyes blazing with anger as she glared at him. “I can’t believe you! You’re not even just being stupid, are you?! You’re actually really willing to give her up to Cruxis and let her die! This is why I hate you!”

Zelos looked after her with a wistful look as he rubbed the cheek she’d punched with all her strength. “Well, it was worth a good try…” he murmured to himself before wincing. “That’s gonna leave a huuuge bruise.”
