--Liason, is, first and foremost, my absolute favorite fictional TV show couple. I have been wanting to do a piece on them for quite a while now, but nothing really came to me. Then I had an idea, based off of some of the vague conversations in the show, and decided to give it a shot. I hope you will enjoy this as much as I loved writing it.
Sadly, I do not own a thing. General Hospital is all ABC and Guza--though I know there are several people out there in this site who could definitely do a MUCH better job--, and Steve Burton belongs to himself. sigh--
Jason Morgan was a man of few words. As the local Borg, he had learned that the stony mask placed directly on his features hid his true emotions exceedingly well. Seldom did he ever allow the façade to slip, and when he was executing his career's demands, he was able to focus on only the task at hand--enforcing.
That was, until he met Elizabeth Webber. The petite brunette changed his life in more ways than he had ever imagined possible. While it was true that he was still able to seem indifferent to his surroundings, and still make his job a top priority, there were now other things on his minds. Carly's problems seemed even more insignificant now--all of her petty insecurities began to get on his nerves.
There was only one obstacle in his way of living in utopia. Unfortunately, it was also his biggest factor. Jason was not selfish enough to risk the well-being of Elizabeth and his boys just to be a family with them, and Elizabeth feared for Cameron and Jake's safety. The brief moment of happiness they had shared--the night he had opened his heart to her, poured out his entire being, and asked her to be his legally for eternity--had ended so abruptly when the call came about Michael. And with that one message, they had been harshly jerked back to reality.
His life spiraled into a sort of black hole after that. He knew he was not the only one experiencing pain after knowing how close he came to his dreams becoming reality; Elizabeth's face continuously betrayed her depression when he saw her. Due to Spinelli's many accidents, it was more often than he had originally considered. He hated hurting her, but knew he would hate himself even more if any harm came to her or the boys.
The Zacharras were always looking for dirt on him. Claudia, specifically. Ever since Jason had refused her innuendos, he knew she had been secretly researching his past. If she ever found out about Jake, Anthony would clearly have the upper hand. And Jason just could not risk that. Johnny, on the other hand, may actually have been the sane one in that brood. His infatuation with the little Spencer was clearly irritating, but Jason still found himself trying to allow them to see each other. He despised thinking it, but with Lulu trying to visit her boyfriend in prison, he was painfully reminded of his time on death row and Elizabeth sneaking in to see him. That reminiscing led to even more misery on his part.
He wished they could still frequent the safe house. The time they had spent there would be his to always treasure, but it seemed like such a short amount. They could always return to it, of course--he doubted anyone except himself and the nurse knew its exact location--, but they could not bring themselves to. The building had been a sort of haven for the passionate couple, and with the end of their relationship, they would only strive more to be with each other if they once again encountered that safety. And with the small size of the town, anyone could see both Elizabeth's van and his bike enter the driveway--starting the rumors flying.
This certain night, Jason was dealing with the Karpov situation. He wished he could turn back time and disagree with Sonny about him becoming the Mob King in order for Sonny to give up the rights to his children, but he knew it was impossible. Truth be told, he found it a lot more sensible for Sonny to have only given up Michael and Morgan if he did not vacate the head position, but arguing with Carly was futile. The blonde would always do what she wanted to, and nobody could stop her. Not even to make her see reason. Jason was still furious about her telling Sonny that Jason had impregnated her. If Elizabeth had somehow found out...well, he did not want to think about that.
Counterfeit drugs meant Port Charles would be dangerous even in the hospitals. Considering how both Elizabeth and his friend Robin Scorpio were employed in General Hospital, he wanted to make sure the fake medicine did not affect their jobs. He was 98.9 sure that the items had only come about when Andrei Karpov entered the town, and he was determined to be rid of the man. Sonny betraying him and going to work for the Russian mobster only intensified that desire. Unfortunately, he still had to find the older man's weakness.
Obviously his daughter was the biggest one, but Jason had a strong belief of not going after the families. That idea had been around before Michael's condition, but after that--and when he had to permanently let Jake go--, he made it his main value. Sasha may have been the key to Karpov, but Jason still had to dig around to find if there was anything else he could use. Luckily that he had Spinelli to help him.
The Internet-obsessed geek tended to pester him, but he did have his perks. Jason was certain he would not have been able to save Elizabeth from the Metro Court hostage crisis if it had not been for the eighteen year old. He knew he would not have been able to find Jake as quickly when Maureen kidnapped him, either. Though he wished Spinelli would stop coming to him with his romantic problems, the kid was alright.
Jason rubbed his temples, sifting through a pile of documents Spinelli had discovered for him. So far, nothing about Karpov stated anything unusual. He had all the "normal" characteristics of an active mobster, and had a wife and a few children. His affairs were nothing new, and Jason had already read about the deaths of his "ladies." Becoming a bit annoyed by the endless regularities, Jason decided to turn on the radio and see whether or not he could find anything good. He did not listen to music that often, but, sporadically, it was a nice detour from the demands of his life.
It seemed that only the hit lyrics were on at the current moment, but Jason figured he would leave the station on anyway. It was a break from the usual "boy-loses-girl" country, the disgusting notes of rap, and the pounding of that new teen star Miley something-or-other. Jason had looked into Kristina's IPod ocassionally--though he was surprised she had one in the first place--and knew the kind of trash kids listened to nowadays. Country was perfectly fine, but in the mood he was in, definitely not something he would want to have playing in his mind for the rest of the night. Luckily, though it ended up being pop, a somewhat good song came over the static.
Everybody's got something they had to leave behind
One regret from yesterday that just seems to grow with time
There's no use looking back or wondering
How it could be now or might have been
Oh this I know but still I can't find ways to let you go
I've never had a dream come true
Til the day that I found you
Even though I pretend that I've moved on
You'll always be my baby
I never found the words to say
You're the one I think about each day
And I know no matter where life takes me to
A part of me will always be with you
Somewhere in my memory
I've lost all sense of time
And tomorrow can never be 'cause yesterday is all that fills my mind
There's no use looking back or wondering
How it should be now or might have been
Oh this I know but still I can't find ways to let you go
I've never had a dream come true
Til the day that I found you
Even though I pretend that I've moved on
You'll always be my baby
I never found the words to say
You're the one I think about each day
And I know no matter where life takes me to
A part of me will always be
You'll always be the dream that fills my head
Yes you will, say you will, you know you will
Oh baby, you'll always be the one I know I'll never forget
There's no use looking back or wondering
Because love is a strange and funny thing
No matter how I try and try I just can't say goodbye
No no no no
I've never had a dream come true
Til the day that I found you
Even though I pretend that I've moved on
You'll always be my baby
Jason flipped off the radio, cutting into the last part of the song. He had not realized it would consist of such sappy verses, but he had to admit that it gave him several things to think about. The song reminded him so much of the separation between himself and Elizabeth that it was almost scary. He knew the words were speaking of letting go, of trying to remember what had been and leaving it at that, but he also felt it seemed to emanate some other psychological idea. Ideally, that people would go for their loved ones and try not to end the relationships they cared about so much.
While he was pondering the meaning, his phone rang. Glancing at the Caller ID, he sucked in his breath and picked up.
"Elizabeth?"
--OOH, ending! I was not too certain on this, but I had the idea and I just wanted to try it out. The song is Never Had a Dream Come True, by S Club 7, and one of my absolute favorites. (Most likely because it reminds me of so many of my top fictional pairings.) Recently, it has sounded a whole lot like Liason that I finally considered including it in my first General Hospital fic. I realize that this is also a type of Songfic, but if I choose to continue, this will probably end up being the only song. Well, go ahead and skip on down to let me know what you thought! Reviews are welcome, but I will not force them in order to get a new chapter out. That will depend on how bad my writer's block is (because I get it in almost every single fanfic piece I write!) or if it is nonexistent.
Well, ta-ta for now! Luv, April Dawn--
