Hmm….Bestu Birdwing. Perfect. A dark haired man with a strange smile on his face was currently enjoying a steaming hot beverage in a coffee shop, a warm up against the falling snow outside, when he spied his next victim.
Humming lightly Beyond Birthday stood and folded away the newspaper he had been reading. There hadn’t been any mention of the recent experiments he had been conducting, he was safe for another few days.
Tucking the newspaper inside a briefcase, Beyond decided to steal another glance at Bestu Birdwing as he ordered and collected a large coffee before sitting down.
Betsu wasn’t a particularly large man, in fact he looked rather scrawny compared to other experimentees of Beyonds, he flicked long, greasy brown hair out of his eyes as he made himself comfy. Beyonds eyes were all over him, taking in every detail. From the grease in his hair to the spots on his forehead.
A teenager? No, too old. At least 23-24...
Betsu’s glasses reflected the overhead lights so his light blue eyes seemed to twinkle. He reached down to the bag beside his chair and pulled out a laptop.
Ah, a computer geek.
Finishing his coffee Beyond Birthday picked up the briefcase and headed toward the door, a large, peculiar smile lit up his face as he headed for home.
Their apartment was just a short stretch away from the main street in a busy city, Beyond enjoyed kicking up the snow as he strolled along back home to her. Moments later, he had entered the apartment building and had let himself in.
Kicking off his shoes he called into the flat “Are you in my love?” Silence was his only answer.
He stalked further into his home. “Hello? Eaven? Are you home?” Still nothing but silence.
Beyond was beginning to get worried now. Eaven, an ex-MI5 agent and his lover was always home before he was, she knew how dangerous their lifestyle was so she never stayed out to long for fear of recognition by an ex-colleague. Ex-agent or not, it won’t go down well if it was found that she was living with a mass murderer; a mass murderer who, incidentally, had been the killer on a case she had worker on.
“My love?” He called out from the living room door. He searched the flat from room to room, top to bottom but there was still no sign of his lover.
Think rationally B told himself Her bag and scarf aren’t here, so she must be out.
Beyond knew the scarf in detail. He had bought it for her on their first date, almost a two years ago now. It had been snowing. All she had had on was a thin jacket and a skirt; Beyond remembered how pale she looked up against the grey snow, her cheeks were red against the cold. They were walking past a small market selling all sorts of things when he’d seen the scarf for the first time. The blood red colour had caught his eye straight off, a few moments later he had it draped around Eaven’s neck and paid for it.
I’ll try phoning her mobile…
The phone rang twice before -
“Hello?”
Beyond almost sighed with relief, almost. He knew Eaven well enough to know that something wasn’t right. Normally she would purr his name down the phone, but this time she sounded different, professional… like she did when they first met, when she was with MI5...
“Hello Eav, how’s things going?” Lets see how bad the situation is…Depending on her situation the conversation should turn to something simple like -
“I was just out getting some things to make our tea with when I ran into some old friends.”
This could be bad. Beyond knew what she was trying to tell him, her ‘old friends’ were MI5 agents. “Well, what time are you thinking about getting back?”
“Probably not till late, we might end up going for a drink. Just get a take-away or something for yourself .” Do they want information from her? Do they know about us? Whatever… she needs me.
“Well, do you want me to meet you somewhere so I can walk you home?” He replied down the phone.
“Yeah, that’d be good. In fact, why don’t you come along now?” So she does need me there…that means there’s two, at the most, of them.
“Alright, where are you?… I’ll be there in ten.”
After hurriedly applying a layer of make-up Beyond rushed out of the flat, pulling on a jacket as he ran. It looks like Betsu Birdwing would have wait.
