The Great Heist
"I can't believe you donated our 'services' as detectives, Sam," Daniel muttered, shaking his head, torn between amusement and frustration.
"It's important, Daniel. This is big," she said with a smile, grinning at him. "It's not just our first case as detectives, it's a big one."
"Sam, I know that every girl read and wanted to be Nancy Drew at one point in their life, but I think this is taking it too far," he told her. She didn't even fight him on his "stereotyping." This was not good. "This is not a big deal. It's not even a case."
"We're talking about the theft of military property," Sam protested. "That is important."
"It's underwear, and they're just missing. Not stolen," he shot back. "They've probably just been misplaced. Not stolen."
"Stolen," she insisted as they turned the corner. She'd insisted on wearing all black, and she was carrying a zat, just in case. He had refused to carry anything. He didn't even want to be here. Still, he couldn't leave Sam to do this alone. "Come on. We're about to catch the theif in the act."
He grumbled to himself under his breath, but he kept following her. She took a place on one side of the door, prepping the zat. He went to the other side, opening the door when she signaled.
"Freeze!" she cried, aiming the zat. Then she froze, an expression of complete shock covering her face.
"Sam?" Daniel asked, looking into the doorway against his better judgment.
"O-kay," he said slowly, his voice shaking a little. "That's the last time I listen to you."
