Over the Edge

When he casts his sugary glance upon you, make sure you avert your eyes, lest they catch his, whereupon you’ll find yourself helpless, trapped, enchanted…

Falling is inevitable, rock bottom only a slight possibility. In all likelihood, you’ll just fall forever. Sweet smiles and candy kisses make for a dizzying concoction, and it doesn’t take much to step out over the edge. Charlie Bucket, let me tell you this; you’re getting dangerously close to oblivion.

Boots tap down the endless corridors, and he stops you with a single look. A secretive smile and tender caress and tap, tap, tap, he’s away, his feet betraying the pace of your heart. You’re in too deep now, and you know it.

Before long, his hand is on your cheek, and he’s smiling you the sweetest smile he’s ever given. He’s inviting you into his secret world, and gladly, you take his gloved hand and enter. The path to hell is paved with candy. Breathless, hushed, hurried, helpless whispers of “Mr…” and “Wo-wonka” as the waterfall cascades over the rocks, waves pounding over the beach, foaming and merciless. A creak, and the dam breaks. All is washed away.

Amidst the wreckage, you wonder where you made the false turn, but, decide that dark as this road is, it is the one you must take.

You don’t step falsely now, but steadily, ready not to jump, but dive into the madness. You leap, and fall, fall forever, forever in the glitter and the sparkle and the swirl, forever in his arms.
