This had been posted on tradingxyesterday when I lost my account info, but it's on here now.

A/N: this is a little something different. It's a song fic where each verse is a progression of a little Zach/Magenta relationship. Hope that made sense XD.

Maybe when the room is empty,
Maybe when the bottle's full.
Maybe when the door gets broke down,
Love can break in.

The homecoming dance slowly faded to an end. The buses were filling up to take kids home. Will and Layla and The Commander and Jetstream had left a while back. Ethan had been one of the first to get onto a bus when they started filling up. Warren had left the dancefloor with the Frost girl a while back; who knew where they went. A few people were mozying around, and the only adult still around was Mr. Boy. Principal Powers was probably around, but she wasn't in the gym at the moment.

A certain, blonde tall kid and a dark haired girl were sitting on the edge of the stage. They'd danced a little, Zach always doing whatever Magenta wanted. He agreed with everything she said. To him, it was better than suggesting something wrong. To Magenta, it was kind of cute. He got up to fish the rest of the punch into two cups then came back to sit next to her.

His hand accidentally landed over hers when he leaned back. About to pull it back, he noticed that she didn't move, so he decided to leave his hand there, casually sipping punch. Magenta did the same, acting like there wasn't a fluttering in her stomach.

Maybe when I'm done with thinking,
Maybe you can think me whole.

Maybe when I'm done with endings
This can begin, this can begin
This can begin.

The first day back at school since the Royal Pain disaster. Zach hadn't seen Magenta since the dance. Trying to act like it was any normal day, he walked up to her where she was standing at her locker, talking adimantly to Layla.

"Hey Zach," Layla said cheerfully, giving him a normal, cheery grin.

"Hey Layla," he replied, giving her a smile before turning to Magenta. Suddenly his mouth was dry and he felt himself get pale--if it was even possible--and resorted at staring at his feet.

Magenta ushered Layla away before closing her locker and turning to Zach. "What was that?" she asked, looking up at him.

He looked up from his feet and shifted his eyes to her face. "Uh...nothing," he replied before clearing his throat. "So I was...um...thinking. About the dance...you know...and maybe...I don't know, but I..."

Magenta cut him off with a wave of a hand and raised an eyebrow. "You think too much," she replied, slipping her hand into his like it was no big and deal and giving him a small smile.

If you could be my punk rock princess,
I would be your garage band king.
You can tell me why you just dont fit in And how you're gonna be something

Over the next few weeks, the little gang noticed how everyone was pairing off. Will and Layla. Warren and Kathy Frost. Ethan and an equally geeky girl, Marsha Lynn. And--not surprisingly to the rest of them--Zach and Magenta. They were the oddest couple, like night and day. He asked too man questions and she talked too sarcastically. But they both tried and it was amusing to watch.

Zach tried to keep himself from being so jumpy and didn't always agree with what she said all the time because she said that was like he was kissing her ass. And sometimes, she was the one who needed to do the talking. To which he allowed her to talk and he'd listen for a change. And he learned a lot about her that way. What her home life was like. How she'd grown up. What sort of things she liked the best. All of that.

Maybe when your hair gets darker,
Maybe when your eyes get wide,
Maybe when the walls are smaller There will be more space

Then there was that day before Christmas. It was snowy outside and a knock on Zach's house door. His little sister answered, not letting Magenta in until Zach came down the stairs, dressed in some sweatpants and looking like a popsicle. "The heater broke," he told her, letting her inside and telling Marcy to go play up in her room. Magenta pulled off her boots and then off came her hood. And her hair was black. Just plain black with no purple like he was used to. When he asked what happened, she just shrugged and started walking up the stairs. "Your room upstairs?" she casually asked, to which he nodded and followed her upstairs.

His room wasn't as messy as usual. His bed was even made for once. Of course, there was clutter all around the edges of his room and his shelves that lined the walls were packed full, making it seem like the room was ten times smaller. She sat on the edge of the bed, shivering. He pulled off--one--of his sweatshirts that he had been wearing and put it around her shoulders, sitting next to her. She leaned into him and he put his arm around her. They sat like that for a while until Magenta straightened up, looked at him and simply kissed him. Before, he'd been to chicken to kiss her.

Maybe when I'm not so tired,
Maybe you could step inside
Maybe when I look for things that I cant replace,
I cant replace I cant replace.

The New Year came and went. School started again. Zach and Magenta were known as an official couple at the school, as it was with the rest of their little group. The lines between heroes and side-kicks had been blurred greatly thanks to the events of the homeroom dance, making it completely normal for everyone to be friends with everyone.

Zach's parents were out of town for two days on hero business across the Atlantic, leaving him to care for Marcy. It was about one in the morning when he heard a knocking downstairs. Stumbling in the dark--he was a bit tired--he suddenly remembered to start glowing when he reached the door. The heater had finally been fixed after Christmas but it was still chilly.

He opened the door, only to be embraced by Magenta, who was shivering from lack of a coat. Her hair and sweater were damp from fallen snow and he walked her into the kitchen, flicking on some lights to make her something warm as she sniffed and tried not to cry and shiver too much. She told him that she had had a blow out with her mom. She'd been so angry that she stormed out of the house without thinking of the weather and this was the only place she could think of coming.

After some warm hot-chocolate and letting her borrow some of her mom's pajamas, the two curled up on the couch and fell asleep.

If you could be my punk rock princess,
I would be your garage band king.
You could tell me why you just dont fit in,
And how you're gonna be something.

The things that happened out of the school, the two kept to themselves for the most part. Layla might end up hearing something from Magenta but she didn't say anything. Zach kept it all to himself. He didn't talk as fast or much as he used to. Maybe being with Magenta had been a good thing for more reasons than one.

Will and Layla broke up out of the blue at the end of January, leaving the whole school to worry why. The two were civil to each other, but definately not as close as before. After lunch that day, Magenta stopped Zach in the hall and begged him for that to never happen to them. She didn't want to be the one who was left hanging the way she had been her whole life. He assured her that he wasn't going to leave.

If I could be your first real heartache,
I would do it over again.
If you could be my punk rock princess,
I would be your heroine.

It had been a missunderstanding. Zach hadn't told Magenta that he was helping one of his 'normal' childhood friends with a play. Romeo and Juliet. He was running lines with her when she unexpectidly acted out one of the kissing scenes with him, just as Magenta walked into the back yard. He'd brushed off his friend and rushed after his girlfriend, trying to explain what had happened but only got hit with a bunch of remarks from Magenta that were harsh. He watched her angrily walk off the lawn and turn down the street.

That night, he got a call that he wasn't expecting. It was Magenta. She said little, only that she was sorry she yelled at him and she was going to allow him to explain himself. When he did, the other side of the line was quiet for a while. Zach thought that the phone call had been dropped until she spoke again, saying that she saw sorry for acting like a spoiled princess. He then chuckled and told her that she didn't and he's forgive her even if she was.

I never thought you'd last,
I never dream you would.
You watch your life go past,
You wonder if you should.

Valentine's Day. It was a momentous day and happened to land on a weekday. Everyone in school was in a rush of love and pink and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Zach left a note in Magenta's locker, asking her to meet him outside by the front steps during lunch. Somehow, the two missed each other in their classes and Magenta was really wondering what Zach had on mind when she finally heard the lunch bell and rushed outside. He was sitting on the side of the stairs, and smiled when he saw her. She hopped up next to him, intertwining her fingers with his as she did so.

He started off by saying that he was surprised that she even liked him the first place. And he told her that he'd never thought that she would put up with his constant talking and being unnaturally clumsy and sometimes slow. But, he told her that whatever happened, he was glad that she had agreed to go out with him. Magenta teared up a bit and looked down at their hands before looking up and telling him that she loved him. The seconds seemed to drag on for hours for her as she waited to see what he did. Which was to cup her face with his unoccupied hand and kiss her before saying those three little words back to her.

If you should be my punk rock princess,
So I could be your garage band king.
You could tell me why you just dont fit in,
And how you're gonna be something.

The weekend after Valentine's week, the whole gang was sitting at the Paper Lantern, sharing plates of noodles and vegetables and chatting like they didn't have a care in the world. Will and Layla had aparently started to patch up their relationship--as friends or more, they wouldn't say--and were back to being a little more free and easy around each other, which just made the whole day easier.

Kathy and Marsha had easily fallen into the mix-matched group, almost as if they had been there all along. As Layla spoke loudly over the laughs and giggles and small chatter at the table about some funny story back around the time the homecoming was, Magenta got some surprising news from Zach. With some of his non-superhero-in-training-friends, he had started up a band, but they needed a singer. To which, Zach was in charge of finding. And once he spilled to her what type of music it was, she gave a very un-Magenta giggle, kissed him and agreed to sing in his band.

If I could be your first real heartache,
I would do it over again.
If you could be my punk rock princess,
I would be your heroine.

There was Magenta as the singer, Zach on bass--who knew he could play?--, Justin Rocher on guitar and Laura Fletchly on the drums. It was the same girl that had kissed Zach, resulting in Magenta and Zach's first fight. The shapeshifter wasn't exactly thrilled with the choice of drummer, but she pushed it aside when the other girl brought in an old electric guitar that used to be her brothers and Justin started to teach Magenta how to play guitar as well so she could sing and play at the same time.

During time when they were all collaborating on new music, the black haired beauty didn't miss the little looks Laura sent in Zach's direction. She hated to be one of those jealous girlfriends, but the girl irked her. She mentioned it to Zach, who told her that she was his everything and he would never even think of doing anything with Laura. Not in a million years. Just hearing him say that with just the right ammount of force behind the words made Magenta feel a whole lot better and she even allowed herself to get to know the other girl, who turned out to be a lot like Magenta.

Whoa! you know!
You only burn my bridges Whoa! you know!
You just cant let it sink in!
You could be my heroine,
You could be my heroine!

March came and went, and the band got better. Magenta learned to play simple cords while singing to accent the songs more. April popped up out of no where, resulting in Will and Layla letting the group know that they were back together. And Zach and Magenta were still going strong. May came and the group graduated from freshman year--minus Warren and Kathy, who graduated from sophmores. Once school was finished, the group spent a lot of time together.

June was the signal of the start of summer. Kathy sadly announced that she was being moved against her will to France and the group was sad to see her go. It also didn't help that there were three happy couples around Warren all the time, who was back to being the loner.

Zach and Magenta shared a typical summer, taking trips to the beach alone and with the group--one time Warren found himself a rather pretty girl to satisfy him for a bit--as well as Magenta joining Zach's family on their annual summer camping trip. Surprisingly, she had an amazing time, most of which she put on the fact that Zach and her had slept outside under the stars in one big sleeping bag that they'd made out of zipping two together.

Back home, the blistering heat of August came around and everyone knew that the summer would be over soon, which none of them were looking forward to. Or maybe it was something to be wanting. Who knew what type of things would happen to them during another year at Sky High.

A/N: Eh, the ending was weak, I know, but I still love it just the same. I know the song is a 'what if' type of song, but I thought it fit these two well. XD Anyway, leave your comments to tell me how I did on this couple. (I've never written them before this.)
