This kinda just popped into my head the other day. It's a bit short. This is another version of right before Edward and Bella went on the walk right before Edward leaves Bella in New Moon. It's a one-shot.
Disclaimer: I'm not Stephenie Meyer… But I totally wish I were...
"Bella," he paused to take a deep breath, "let's go for a walk." We were standing in my kitchen after school, me in the chair at the small table, him leaning back against the counter.
This was weird. I searched his face for some clue as to what was going on. What I found there was no surprise ― his face held the same expressionless pose that it had all week. Obviously, something was going on.
"Oh," I realized with a start that this was what I had been anticipating all week. He was finally going to admit to me that we were leaving, that I would have to give up everything here and move on with him.
Even though I had known that this moment was coming, I couldn't help but pause for a second. I looked down and began wringing my hands.
I had noticed the signs over the past few weeks. Ever since my birthday and the unfortunate events that had taken place at my party, Edward had seemed distant ― almost hardened. I had figured that the risk here had been getting too much, that it was time for the Cullens to leave Forks. That it was time for me to leave Forks.
I had always known this moment would come eventually. We could not hope to stay here forever unnoticed. I just never imagined the time would come so soon.
Was I ready for this? Was I prepared to leave behind the last eighteen years of my life and follow him away to start over completely and utterly a new one?
I recovered from my momentary shock, and looked up and caught him staring at me; he was waiting for my response.
One look into his deep topaz eyes ― now almost black; he hadn't hunted since my birthday ― told me all I would ever need to know. My decision was absolute.
I would go anywhere, do anything, be anyone ― just so long as I could be by his side.
My Edward, my true love.
"Okay, Edward." I paused and looked down at my still wringing hands. I took a deep breath. "Let's go take a walk."
