A/N: I thought of this right when I was listening to the song...let me know what you think of it! (:

P.S-Stacey Michaels is an OC incase you're wondering.

Till The Song Goes Off

“…I’m going with Stacey Michaels.”

Carly Shay blinked a few times in disbelief. “Excuse me?”

Jake Crandall scratched the back of his head uncomfortably. “She asked me before I agreed to go with you, and…I didn’t want to go with the both of you.”

“Oh.” Carly couldn’t describe how she felt listening to this. “And you had to tell me an hour before Homecoming was to start.”

Jake looked even more ashamed of himself. “I’m sorry Carly. You look great though,” he added, trying to make her feel better.

“Thank you.” Carly could do nothing but watch as he walked out of her apartment. With a groan, she slumped on the couch, putting her face in her hands. She had a feeling this was going to happen, and she just shrugged it off as though it weren’t going to happen. She was lucky that Jake gave her a second chance after she’d finally convinced him she didn’t have feelings for Freddie, but then he decided to ditch her for a much prettier girl in her opinion.

“Why so down, Carly?” Spencer Shay asked as he came out of his bedroom and towards the kitchen.

“Jake just dumped me for someone else,” Carly muttered.

Spencer nearly tripped over his own two feet once he heard that. “What? No way!”

“Yes way,” Carly replied miserably. “Now I don’t have a date to Homecoming. I don’t think I’m going.”

“If I go kick that kid in the weiner would you change your mind?” Spencer asked.

A small smile appeared on the brunette’s face. “Thanks but I don’t think so. I’m just gonna have to tell Freddie and Sam that…”

She faded off as soon as she heard her cell phone ringing. She looked at the front of her iPear to see that it was Freddie was calling her. Breaking the news would probably be easier than she thought. She picked up her phone and answered. “Hello?”

Are you and Jake ready yet?”

Carly sighed. “Freddie, I’m not going.”

There was silence on the other end for a while. “Wait. What do you mean?”

“Jake stood me up, and-“

HE STOOD YOU UP?! THAT JERK! I’M GONNA FIND HIM AND-“

“Freddie calm down!” Carly interrupted, though feeling slightly amused by his efforts. “It’s alright. I knew he was digging that Stacey chick to begin with, so I kind of expected it.”

Yet you didn’t stop it from happening, WHY?”

“I really liked him!” Carly defended herself. She groaned as she slouched on the couch. “And if I go I don’t want to see him there, it’s just gonna make things worse.”

She could hear Freddie sigh heavily on the other end. “Well guess what Carly? I don’t have anyone to go with either. And we already bought the stupid tickets so why don’t we just go together. You don’t need Jake if he was stupid enough to dump YOU.”

Carly grinned. “Thanks, Freddie. Why don’t you meet me here so Spencer can take us there?”

Right after she finished this, there was a couple loud knocks to her door. Rolling her eyes she stood up and answered it to only have her eyes widen in surprise. Never before had she seen Freddie looking so professional and she knew that she would probably never see it again. His hair was all the same with the front slightly spiked up. His black and white suit looked fresh and spotless, as so did his shoes. A single red rose was resting in his breast pocket to match his red tie.

“Yeah Same gave me the same look before she punched me.” Freddie stepped into the apartment. He gazed Carly up and down. “You look pretty.”

“Thank you.” Carly could feel herself blushing as she tugged at her dress. It was a strapless bright pink dress that went all the way down to the floor, covering her black ballerina flats completely. She turned to where Spencer was. “Ready, Spence?”

“Almost.” Spencer had finished devouring his peanut butter and jelly sandwich. He snatched his keys off the counter and headed towards the door. His eyes caught sight of Freddie and he grinned. “You look sharp, Freddo.”

“Thanks, Spencer.” Freddie held out his arm for Carly and she took it gently as all three of them headed towards Sam’s apartment.

Carly was impressed with her school’s gymnasium when she, Sam and Freddie arrived there moments later. Streamers of all colors were hanging around; a big disco strobe light was in the middle of the gym and was rotating different colors around its walls. The music was blaring so loudly that Carly couldn’t even hear herself think.

She pulled Sam closer until her lips were near her ear. “Let’s go get some punch.”

Sam nodded. She grabbed Freddie’s arm and dragged him all the way to the punch bowl. The three of them managed to push past all the people before the finally got to the punch bowl.

“Oh my god, this is my favorite!” Sam re-filled her cup all the way to the rim.

Freddie shook his head disdainfully as he watched her gulp it all down. Afterwards, Sam looked over at Carly before pointing out at the dance floor. Carly got what she meant and waved her off. She watched her friend go away before turning back to Freddie who continued to sip the punch. The current song ‘Untouched’ by the Veronicas faded off and went on to the next, which Carly instantly recognized the tune as soon as it had came on.

If you came here by yourself tonight

Cuz he wouldn’t pick up the phone

He was ‘spose to bring you here tonight

Couldn’t find him so you came alone

‘New Kids, you are definitely not helping me.’ Carly was about to go sit down when there was a tap on her shoulder. She turned to see Jake standing behind her.

“Hey.” He looked at her guiltily. “Stacey turned me down.”

“I’m sorry.” Carly crossed her arms. “What does that have to do with me?”

“Well…I was wondering if you would like to dance with me,” said Jake.

Carly opened her mouth to respond but Freddie abruptly cut in front of her, his arms crossed like Carly. “You dumped her and now you’re asking for a dance because your date dumped you? How low could you possibly get Crandall? And for the record she’s with me so bug off!”

Carly could do nothing but stare at her friend in amazement as Freddie grabbed her wrist and dragged her as far away from Jake as possible. She and Freddie were always close as can be, but it was rare that Freddie would ever stand up for her like she just did.

“I can’t believe that creep tried to do that!” Freddie looked truly angry. “Please don’t tell me you were gonna say yes to him.”

“I wasn’t!” Carly lied quickly. “He did dump me after all.”

Freddie looked relieved. “Thank God.”

Carly looked around. There were girls and boys everywhere, dancing slowly to the song playing. It only made her feel depressed since she hoped that Jake and her would dance that way. She looked around at Freddie and noticed she had her hands out.

“Dance with me?” Freddie offered.

Carly raised her eyebrows. “What?”

Freddie rolled his eyes. “No funny business, I promise.”

Carly couldn’t help but smile as she came closer to Freddie, draping her arms around her friend’s neck as Freddie put his own hands gently on Carly’s waist, taking the lead as they both eased into the song.

Pretty mama if you’re single, sigle

(you don’t gotta be alone tonight)

So while the DJ play the single, single

(Just pretend that I’m your man tonight)

So you don’t gotta be alone

I’ll be your boyfriend

So you don’t gotta be alone

Girl I’ll be your boyfriend

So you don’t gotta be alone

Baby I’ll be your boyfriend

I’ll be your boyfriend till the song goes off

Carly could feel the tears rising in her eyes as the words began to get to her. She quickly wiped at them just as Freddie looked at her. “I’m fine, I’m just…”

She faded when Freddie put a gentle finger to her lips. “Carly it’s alright. I know you really liked that guy. I know you wanted to dance with him. I can’t replace him, I know I’m not as tall or as good looking or as popular as he is,” he continued to say, now looking a little upset.

Carly instantly felt guilty about everything. “Freddie, don’t you dare compare yourself to a guy like him. He uses girls at his own expense. He’s not smart. He can’t sing. You on the other hand, you’re smart, you’re caring…any girl would be lucky to have you. Even me,” she added. “You’re a great friend.”

“And that’s all I’ll ever be,” Freddie muttered.

“Don’t say that.” Carly put her head on his shoulder. “Anything is possible, Freddie.”

She could feel his hands slide across her back, bringing her body closer to his.

So while the DJ runs this single, single

(Just pretend that I’m your man tonight)

Carly closed her eyes as she relaxed to the song and dance. Although Freddie wasn’t her boyfriend, he was potentially everything that she could look for in a guy. She wondered why she could never see this before, and then again, they never had a moment where they were this close together. Unless you could count that time where they were hiding in the Randy Jackson closet.

Everybody in the club right now

Tell the DJ to turn it loud

The song then faded off slowly. Carly picked her head off Freddie’s shoulder and they briefly looked at each other. Carly smiled appreciatively at him. “How can I ever repay you?”

“This one’s one the house,” Freddie replied.

“Are you sure?” Carly then leaned forward and gave him a gentle kiss on the cheek. “What about that?”

“I think those could be an exception,” Freddie said, looking happy.

Carly laughed right and looked to see Sam rushing up to them, dark brown stains dotting her face. “Guys, they’re selling ribs in the gym lobby!”

She rushed away before they could even say anything. The two stared after her before giving each other hopeless looks. She would most likely be there the whole time.

“I’m a little starved anyway,” Freddie said, offering a hand to Carly.

“Yeah, let’s go stop Sam before she throws up again.” Carly took his hand and they both left the dance floor to get their friend.
