Chapter Nineteen: - To Trust or not to Trust

Footsteps were behind fiercely, following hers with the mutual effort she carried in order to hurry away. She could tell he was closing in on her and that it’d been an effort – judging by his heavy breaths – for him to do so.

She had to get away from him; if she didn’t disappear, she had no idea what she would turn into. A quivering mess was at the top of her list and understandably she didn’t want him to see her like this.

“Mickie!” His voice, demanding and harsh, broke her train of thought. “Would you just stop?”

“Leave me alone!” The diva spat out in return, hoping that would get rid of him.

“Well you and I both know that’s not a good idea – besides, you’re nearly outside your room so there’s nowhere left to go. I won’t let you go, okay?”

Mickie spun around, shooting a glare in his direction. “Why not?”

Y2J stopped before he bumped into her and tried to regain control of his breathing pattern. A beat later, he was torn between laughing impolitely and staring at her in disbelief. She surely wasn’t being serious; she couldn’t be, right?

“We’re going around in circles. One minute we can tolerate each other and the next you can’t bring yourself to trust me...”

As he trailed off, her eyes narrowed. “Here we go again with the trust issue. I get it, Chris, I really do. I remember what you said about me not being able to see past my other relationships. But so what...so what, Chris? I always give everything I have and I always end up regretting it.”

“And you think I’d put you in that position?”

“As far as I’m concerned, you already have.” She stated sadly and went to turn.

But just like he promised himself, he wasn’t about to let her leave. “I haven’t, Mickie. Of course I haven’t.” A heavy sigh spilled from his lips a moment later. “You already know I can’t wait around for you – you have a huge issue with trust, but I only have so much patience.”

“My problem was slowly starting to go away before I saw you with Candice. Is this what you do when you get rejected – move onto someone else?”

He laughed. “I don’t get rejected.” But at her second glare, he calmed. “And no, I don’t. I haven’t moved on. Do you really think I could see myself with Candice Michelle? Her?

“Well she’s a scheming bitch...so yes.”

“Why won’t you ever accept that something might be down to you? I’m not perfect, but neither are you. I’ve done all the chasing in this little game and I won’t do it anymore.”

“In this little game? Is that all this is to you?”

“Stop twisting my words. It’s pissing me off now.” He spat angrily. She tensed at his mood but didn’t utter a word. “Do you really want to know the truth? Mickie, I love you. That’s the truth. I love you.”

The brunette had to take a moment for herself. Did he really love her? She knew he had certain feelings for her, but to love her...it was just too much. Too much in a good sense. Her heart was pounding away, taking in all the necessary emotions to follow his subtle outburst. Surprise, anxiety, fear, happiness.

“And you know what? I find it hard to trust people too – in this business, you do. You always have to be on your guard.” He took a few seconds to speak again. “We all know what happened with Trish. That ended badly.”

“Badly?” She laughed guiltily, forgetting their argument for that moment in time. “Yeah. You can say that again.”

“But the point is, I had to trust myself to move on. Not everyone is going to be a self-obsessed, whoring bitch like her.” He shrugged with nonchalance. “She doesn’t even cross my mind anymore.”

“You do have a really bad opinion of her though.”

“So? You have a bad opinion of me.”

Had.” She corrected him and then glanced down to her feet, unable to look him in the eye. “That night...the night we kissed...I can’t seem to get it out of my mind. That night was so fucked up – everything was going on and it all seemed out of place. But then I kissed you and it felt...amazing. Just perfect.”

He didn’t say anything in return. He knew it wasn’t his place to yet.

“And then all this drama happened and I wondered whether what we had...have...would be taken away from me just like it has with my past boyfriends. I really want to believe that you’d never hurt me or take me for granted but I have these scars – emotional scars – and it’s hard. Really hard.”

She sighed, feeling emotionally drained. Was it supposed to be this hard when you admitted your feelings for someone else? Maybe it was her stubborn nature, but she felt this situation was upsetting.

“Mickie,” he softly called her name and she caught his gaze again, “I know it’s going to be hard for you. It always is. Being in love is tricky...but I’m never going to hurt you. I don’t care how many times you’ve heard that line before but I really mean it. I know how horrible it is to have your heart broken – I could never allow you to feel that way. It’s—”

But he was cut off when she pressed her lips to his suddenly. The intensity on her part was too much to ignore and this was the action she’d chosen to relieve the emotion. He was unsurprisingly okay with her reaction too.

When she pulled away a mere few moments later, he was disappointed. But she had something to say. “See – why do you do this to me? I can’t not be around you.”

“It’s part of the Jericho charm.” He smirked slightly.

“You mean the Jericho curse, right?” She rolled her eyes. “Seriously though...what are we going to do?”

“I think that’s up to you. I’ve told you how I feel time and time again. You have to make a decision now.”

Mickie just stared at him. She knew what she wanted to say, but was something going to hold her back like the previous times? It was in this moment that she had to find out.

Kelly had found a major loophole in her plan. Well she hadn’t found it, but she was willing to accept the blame for the mistake anyway.

As she arrived at the hotel with Punk – knowing that her best friend was there – she wore a familiar frown on her face. The young diva was thinking of a way to fix this. She really did want Chris and Mickie to be together, and the only way she thought they could be was with interference from her.

“I can’t believe this plan starts with me taking Chris out for a drink,” chuckled the straight-edge superstar, shaking his head as the blonde linked arms with him. “You really didn’t think this through, did you?”

She glared at him. “Shut up.”

“Whatever.”

With that taken care of, Kelly concentrated on getting to the floor they wanted. She only hoped she could think of something clever to execute before she reached her destination. This was just pitiful – she and Punk going to see Mickie with nothing to say? How ridiculous.

“How about,” he sighed, “I reveal that I like Mickie and I want to ask her out. Then you can talk to Chris, manipulate him, brainwash him...” She hit him on the arm and he rolled his eyes. “And convince him – somehow – to fight for her.”

“That is perfect! You’re a genius!” She squealed, kissing him on the cheek as they stepped into the elevator. “Aww...you’re such a romantic at heart, aren’t you?”

“No. It’s a fairly obvious plan to go with.” He raised an eyebrow in her direction. “I’m surprised you didn’t think of it.”

“Yeah well...obviously I would have thought of it but—”

“You’re too dumb for that, I understand.”

She tried not to hit him again and instead focused on the red light indicating to each floor. When it reached the number six, she was fairly satisfied with her mood and stepped out with her partner in crime.

“Right. Now we just have to find Mickie and you can work your—” She paused suddenly. With wide eyes, she quickly glanced around. “We need to find somewhere to hide! Quick!”

“Why?” Punk could barely ask before his friend grabbed him and shoved them both behind a plant pot. “You’ve gotta be kidding me.” He groaned.

“Shush and just look!” Kelly pointed in-between a few leafs, and towards Chris and Mickie. “They’re talking.”

“Ooh, call the press.” The superstar feigned excitement.

He was hit for his efforts.

“I love you too.”

There. It had been said.

Only for Mickie, it wasn’t such a chore to allow the words to slip out of her mouth. She hadn’t been expecting for the truth to flow out so easily but it had. That moment of hesitance clearly hadn’t meant a thing – the moment she opened her mouth, she knew exactly what she wanted to say.

It was also exactly what Y2J had wanted to hear. The relieved smile that curved his lips was so unrecognized that she found it adorable. In his mind, he was fighting the urge to twirl her around like in one of those ridiculous romance movies...

“You don’t know how happy I am to here you say that.”

“You don’t know how happy I am to say that,” said the diva, smiling lightly. “But does this mean—”

The favor was soon returned when he moved forwards and kissed her passionately. She couldn’t help but to respond; her lips were craving more from the second they were touched. The chemistry was there right now – it was indispensible.

“Yes.” He whispered against her lips.

“But you have to promise me one thing,” said Mickie as he pulled away, attempting to put a little authority into the situation. “Don’t ever talk to Candice again. That’s not me being an overbearing girlfriend...but I will castrate you if I see you near her.”

“Noted. And you have to promise me one thing.” He compromised. “If we have an argument again – no, scratch that, when we have an argument again...you can’t bring up what happened with her.”

“Wouldn’t even dream of it.” She smiled.

It was only too soon that the pair were kissing again, and not being discreet about it as others passed them by. All that mattered in Mickie’s world was him – a distant fact until now. She couldn’t believe this was happening. It seemed too...

“Wait,” she stopped their little kissing session, giggling at his groan. “Something doesn’t feel right.”

He stared back at her with a worried expression. “What? What is it?”

“It’s just...something I can’t put my finger on.”

The explanation came a moment later when a high-pitched shriek burst their eardrums, and Kelly bounced towards them excitedly. Punk lagged behind, rolling his eyes and pretending that he wasn’t with the blonde psycho.

Now I know,” said the brunette as she fought the urge to laugh. “Hi, Kelly.”

“Hi, hi, hi...” She repeated with a grin as she glanced between the two. “I’m sorry. I know I’m ruining a moment but you guys are so so SO cute! Eeeep!”

Chris turned to Mickie. “Did she just sound like a mouse or is my hearing so fucked up from her first reaction?”

“Since you’re going to be in my life a lot more from now on you should probably know something. This girl right here—” She detached herself from the sexy beast to place a hand on her friend’s shoulder. “Is a nutcase.”

“A loveable nutcase.” The blonde pouted.

“If you say so,” muttered Punk and backed away. “I’d really love to stay and chat but I don’t want to. Mickie, good luck with him...and with her.” He finished.

“What is this – pick on Kelly day?” The diva frowned.

Y2J was already ahead of the conversation and grabbed the brunette’s hand, leading her towards her room. “If you don’t mind, Kelly, I’m going to steal her away for a bit.”

“Oh. No problem. I’ll just come back later.”

“Or maybe not at all,” said Mickie as she found the key for her room. “Okay?”

The new couple soon slipped out of sight, leaving Kelly to stand there and just stare at the door for a moment or two. A beat later, she placed her hands on her hips and sighed happily. “You two kids have fun.” She said to no-one in particular and then skipped away. “I deserve an award. I really do.”

I shall leave you with delirious/psycho Kelly. I had the worst writer’s block for this chapter so this is as good as you’re going to get, I’m afraid ;)

Anyways, this was the LAST chapter of Truth Be Told. Aww. Hope you enjoyed it :)
