It was funny, how at moments like this, stupid, pointless things like ambition, power, and personal desires faded away. The selfish wants just started falling from one's memory, like petals scattered by the wind. It didn't matter who you were, or what you've done, it was nothing in the scheme of things, as long as you had the comfort and warmth of your loved ones.
He watched them sleep, so frail looking, both of them snow pale and exhausted, after what had been a hard experience for both. Gin had given birth while he was preoccupied, and he had only been notified by Tousen afterwards. Gin was bruised, and had dark circles, and she was so tiny. He little fists were tipped with bruises, as were her legs, from where she had been forcibly pulled from her mother, when Gin had grown to tired to push any longer.
Tousen had reported that birth had been been long and difficult, and that the forceps had been used. Gin's skinny little hips were simply not designed for birthing children, so understandably, it had taken a toll on him. The child, despite the bruises, was fine, according to Tousen, but he doubted it, by how they looked. No baby should be that tired and bruised.
He felt sick for a moment, at how he had indirectly caused so much suffering, just by impregnating Gin. He really hadn't thought of how weak Gin would be, or how hard birth would be. He had wanted this, yes, and so had Gin, but somehow, they were not prepared at all. They had somehow assumed that it would be quick and easy, and they would have an instant spawn that would serve as an heir, but neither had expected such a powerful attachment, or that such effort would have been involved...
They were such fools.
The child stirred, whining quietly, and Aizen reached down to pick her up, only to have a very angry Gin, with red eyes open, holding Shinsō at his neck.
“Oh, it's you! So sorry.”
Aizen smiled gently as Gin laid back down, and he got under the covers next to him. It thrilled him a bit, that protectiveness and anger. Considering Gin's normal behavior, he had really doubted that he would have bonded with the child at all. He took this as a good sign, that Gin was capable of being a good mother to their daughter.
“How do you feel?”
“I ain't gonna lie, not too good. I am so tired! She didn't want to be born, she was too comfy where she was! It hurt!”
“I would think so. You were very brave.”
“Nah...Wanna hold her? She's still pretty full I think, so she might not cry for ya.”
He picked her up, so fearful of how tiny she was, and held her close to him. She was so perfect, such a blend of both of them. She had Gin's mouth, that was obvious from the start, but her eyes were his. He adored the pale brown fuzz on her head, he couldn't call it hair yet, and how she made odd faces in her sleep, that meant little more than digestion. She was so small and new that she didn't even know that she was alive yet...
Yet she had conquered him effortlessly.
He felt so different right now, like his entire world had changed, just from holding a baby.
No, just from holding his baby.
He felt so protective of both of them, as if he wanted to shut them away somewhere safe forever, so that no one could even think to harm them. He had just met her, she didn't even have a name yet, yet he felt that he could not live without her.
It was funny how all it took was a tiny child to toss all of someone's plans and priorities out the window, and to make you reevaluate everything. He would die if anything happened to her or Gin...
And he swore that he wouldn't let 'anything', whatever it might be, ever happen.
After a bit, Gin bundled her between them, and curled her up carefully in blankets, before passing out himself. There were many things to do, many decisions to male, but for right now, Aizen could think of nothing more he cared to do than to watch them sleep.
He only watched for a bit, before he joined them in sleep's embrace himself. The odd family was happy and content, all of them warm and safe, and for once in Gin and Aizen's life, they had their priorities where they should be, focused on each other and on their child.
