Chapter: 4
Orochi
Chikane and Himeko, hand in hand walking down the beautiful moon lit beach of Mahoroba. Himeko glanced at Chikane in aw, the moon light seemed to make her glow in a pale light. The moon was not yet full, but would be in two nights time. Even so, Chikane could tell it was close, she could see it in Himeko. Himeko has become jumpy and twitchy the last few nights, Chikane could also tell as they walked now, every time Himeko would look up at the sky, her hand would twitch.
Chikane gave her love’s hand a squeeze and whispered, “Hey Himeko, penny for your thoughts?”
“Huh?, oh I was just thinking of what to get Sakura for her birth-day.” Himeko replied with a soft sad sigh. Chikane caught the sigh. “Do you know what you want to get for her?” Himeko nodded, “I do, but thing I really want to get for her is difficult, its been bothering me scents the year before last.
Chikane turned and tilted her head to her love and asked, “What was it that she asked for Himeko?” By now they’ve stopped walking and Himeko turned to face her blue moonlight, but she never made eye contact with Chikane, as Himeko looked down at the sand.
Chikane waited quietly and patiently as her angel collected her thoughts. After a little while Himeko spoke, “At Sakura’s eighth birth-day party I asked her what she whished for, she… she,” by now Himeko’s voice started to crake and tears threatened to fall from her eyes. Himeko continued, “She asked for a little sister… someone she could love and teach, someone she could play with and look after, someone that would look up to her, Chikane I… I-” Himeko was stopped by a soft finger pressed against her lips.
Chikane wiped away the few tears that did fall while pulling Himeko into a loving hug. Stroking her hair, Chikane whispered into her angel‘s ear, “Himeko… If I could… I wouldn’t hesitate one second to give Sakura AND You what you both whished for… that is my promises.”
Chikane captured Himeko’s lips, they kissed for what seemed like an eternity, that is until Himeko pulled back suddenly, Chikane snapped her eyes open, “What is it Himeko?”
Himeko didn’t answer, instead she sniffed the air a few times. She gave Chikane a worried look, “I smell smoke Chikane.” Chikane looked around and gave the air a sniff, then the vampire smelt it, it was faint but there. Chikane looked around again, she spotted a lifeguard tower a few yards away, Chikane gave Himeko‘s hand a tug and lead her toward the tower.
Once there, Chikane and Himeko, using their Night Children strength jumped up on top of the tower. After a few seconds of looking around Himeko gasped, “CHIKANE, THE HIMEMIYA MANOR!” The blonde shouted.
Chikane snapped her head in the direction of her family’s home. She saw bright yellow and orange glow in the night sky, nether of them spoke as they leaped from the lifeguard tower. As soon as their feet hit the sand , they shot of like a bullet toward the boardwalk parking lot.
What took them 45 minutes of normal walking only took them 5 minutes of running at top speed. Once they arrived, Chikane jumped into the driver’s seat of Himeko’s 1967 Candy Apple Red Ford GTO Mustang. Himeko did a hood slide and jumped into the passenger side. As soon as Himeko shut the door, Chikane gunned the engine and peeled out of the parking lot toward Himemiya Manor.
As Chikane and Himeko came near the Manor they saw three figures, two of them on their knees and the third laying on the ground. When they got closer, Chikane and Himeko saw that it was none other than Chikane’s mother, Kaon Himemiya, there trusted maid, Otoha Kisaragi, and Otoha’s cousin Miyuki Rokujo.
Chikane pulled the E-break and power slid to a stop just a few yards away from the group.
She jumped out and ran toward them. Himeko saw something out of the corner of her eye in the near-by bushes an ran after it. As Chikane got near the group of three, she could smell blood. Chikane saw that Otoha’s left arm was bent at an odd angle, indicating that it was broken, she also had cuts and burns all over.
Miyuki’s right ankle was also bent at an odd angle, as she was leaning on Otoha for support, and a large cut under her left eye.
Chikane knelt by her mother, tears came to her eyes as her mother coughed up blood, she cradled the older Himemiya’s head in her lap.
“Who did this to you mother?” asked Chikane in a tearful voice, “and where is father?” Kaon wheezed a few times trying to take breath. “I… I don’t know Chikane dear,” she started, “your father and I where in the study with little Sakura… Otoha and Miyuki where in the kitchen preparing dinner when we hared a crash.” Chikane’s mother took a few breaths and continued, “A group of men came in to the study, one of them grabbed your father when he tried to stop them taking Sakura.”
Tears formed in Kaon eyes. “Then… the man bit your father, he… turned to stone. Then the man smashed him.”
By now hot tears were falling from both Himemiya’s, Otoha’s and Miyuki’s eyes.
Just then the four women’s heads snapped up at the sound of gun shots. A rustling in the bushes made them turn. A figure came running out, it barely made it 20 feet before another shot rang out. The bullet blow off its leg just below the knee-cap, there came a second rustle as another figure few high into the night sky. The second landed, knees slightly bent, right in front of the first.
The blond stood straight, and glared at the figure trying to crawl away. “Himeko! Be careful he’s a Gargoyle!” Chikane warned. Himeko nodded, she re-holstered her gun and pulled out a silver lined glove from her pocket. The werewolf flipped the Gargoyle over and smashed him in the mouth, “WHERE’S SAKURA!” Himeko barked, (to say Himeko was pissed would be an understatement). The Gargoyle started to laugh. Himeko got annoyed as hell with this, she picked him up like a sake potatoes and flung him over her shoulder into a near by tree trunk. He fell to the ground with a dull thud, all the wile laughing.
The Gargoyle spoke in a stony voice, “It doesn’t matter what you do to me, my master has what he needs to recreate this world, as he has tried many times before. But this time he will succeed, and you, Priestesses of the Godless month, won’t be able to do anything to stop him. Nor will that pathetic Ame no Murakumo. The Orochi will rule this world at the full moon, Hahaha haha!”
They all watched as the Gargoyle snapped his own neck. He fell to the ground turning stone gray, cracking and crumbled to dust. Himeko stood there, fist clenched and tears streamed down her face. With a wolfish cry, she punched the tree three times, the first made the bark crumble, the second cracked the trunk, and the third turned the four foot thick tree into a stump.
Himeko fell to her knees and cried. The Orochi, Ame no Murakumo, Priestesses of the Godless month. What do theses things have to do with Himeko, Chikane, Sakura. Why the full moon. What the hell was going on? Theses questions raced around in both Chikane’s and Himeko’s head.
