AN:
The early chapters of ‘I think I’ were supposed to be in ‘Manga’ genre, but then I diverged the story into a really different direction. This one, ‘The Lion and the Lamb’, is really manga-esque (or so I think). Mind you, I don’t read shojo manga that much, so the elements might differ a bit. But I guess it’s good to have some changes in my writing.
Pairings:
(currently) SasuHina, SakuSasu
Summary:
’s the school’s GoldenBoy. Loved by girls&boys alike, he exudes charm that no one can resist. She’s the shy wallflower, unnoticed and untouched. An unlikely dare brings them together & it seems both are having hard time not to fall to each other
Note:
The schooling system in Japan is not the same with those in western. I remember someone told me that they need to spend about 6 years in grade school, then 3 years in junior high school (grade 7-9), then another 3 years in high school (grade 10-12). They don’t go to their assigned classes, but instead the students are put together in a class, and the teachers will come to the classes. The characters are going to be in 11th grade, which means they’re in the second grade. The average for that grade would be 16-17.
And now…
The Lion and the Lamb
Chapter One
-
It was probably the first time Uchiha Sasuke came to school early. The teachers had recognized Sasuke as the only student who didn’t have qualms about being late, and also as the only student who always came late. Every. Single. Day.
Even Sasuke himself was still shocked. He remembered that he hadn’t gone to slept before two A.M last night. How in the friggin hell did he manage to get up so early?! His chauffeur had also been surprised, but then he had gulped down his coffee and drove his master to the school. Sasuke felt strange as he walked down the school yard and halls. He's used to seeing a lot of people, to being surrounded, and to being worshiped with every step he took. But today all was empty. Nothing but the silent halls and boring announcement papers.
Sasuke clicked his tongue. Maybe it had been a mistake to give in to his urges and take his bath earlier than usual this morning. He wasn’t one who could stand the be bored. He always wanted something, anything, that could pose as his object of fascination. Entertainment was a crucial necessity for him, and he needed to make sure that his desire was never less than full.
He opened the door to his class, expecting to see no one and end up being bored for about an hour.
But for once, his instinct betrayed him.
There was a girl sitting there. Her face was bent down as she concentrated on the paper she’d been drawing on. Her long, raven colored hair fell over her face, but she didn’t toss it away, too focused on her sketch. Sasuke blinked, not able to find the right name for this girl. He charged back and took a double look on the class label. It read right, class 2-B. It was his assigned class, and he hadn’t entered the wrong room. This girl must be one of his classmates.
So why he hadn’t noticed her before?
Sasuke took a step into the class; Big mistake, as the sound of his footsteps surprised the girl. She squealed in shock, and in a second, her drawing pad was pressed against her chest.
“Hey, I don’t bite,” Sasuke said, nearly rolling his eyes at her exaggerated reaction. But when he took a look at her face, he could feel his heart slowing down.
She’s a beauty, this art-freak girl. She's got a pair of big, almond-shaped eyes framed by thick black eyelashes. Her eyebrows were naturally thin, with a perfect curve that many models paid thousands for. But one thing that immediately caught Sasuke’s eyes was her lips. So rarely he could find a girl with lips like that. Rosey coloured, soft-looking, and big. But not grotesque big. More like, kissable big.
Absent-mindedly, Sasuke approached the girl.
The girl stood still with her pad on her chest, as if to use as a shield. As Sasuke got closer, her lower lip quivered, and finally, when he’s only two meters before her, she opened her mouth.
“S-Stop!”
Sasuke regained his senses and stopped. “Yeah?” he asked questioningly.
“D-Don’t come c-closer,” the girl said. “I-I’m warning you..”
It’s almost laughable, pitiful even, for Sasuke. Who was this girl, and what could she possible be capable of to try and threaten him? No one can threaten Uchiha Sasuke. He’s invincible, and he reminded people about that very fact every day.
“I just want to see your drawing,” Sasuke said, attempting to be civil. “You looked pretty serious about it.”
Suddenly, her pinkish cheeks turned red. “Y-You saw it?!” a gulp, and then. “H-How long have you been watching m-me?”
Sasuke thought about it for a while and decided to tease her a bit. “Quite a while.”
“Oh!” she bowed, and again, her long hair curtained her cute face. Sasuke should admit that he’s rather disappointed to see that.
“So?” he took one step closer.
The girl responded by taking a step back. “S-So what?”
“Can I see it?”
“No!” she’s quivering when she said that, but the tone was firm and final.
Sasuke tilted his head, a smirk starting to blossom on his face. “Come on,” he continued. “I might not seem like it, but I’m a pretty artsy person. I might get your drawing and very probably…” –he tossed her his most charming smile- “-your cell number, too.”
At his attempt at flirting, the girl gasped. More redness suffused on her skin, only serving to widen his smirk. He had been rather worried that this girl was immune to his charm, but turns out that she’s just the same as everyone else.
“No, y-you might not!” after a few seconds of silence, she shrieked throatily. Now she’s practically running from him, and had already stood at the corner of the class, her hands clutched her drawing pad tightly.
Now, that was a new thing. Girls usually ran to him, not from him.
Nevertheless, Sasuke wasn’t Sasuke if he gave up easily. He approached her, slowly, carefully. “You even haven’t given me a chance.”
No answer this time.
“Ah,” Sasuke threw both his arms to the air. “At least tell me you name, then.”
Before he could see (or hear) what kind of respond he’s going to receive, the door had already opened, and in came Kakashi-sensei, the class’s assigned teacher.
Through his ever-present mask, Sasuke could see his mouth forming a big ‘O’. It must be a shock for him too to find that Uchiha Sasuke had already come to the class this early.
“Well, hello there Sasuke,” he greeted him. “Hinata,” he smiled to the girl at the back.
The girl turned even redder than before, and upon realizing the reason, Sasuke smirked.
“Hey, Hinata-chan,” he mouthed to her.
Hinata only let out yet another gasp and sat, continuing her drawing. Obsessively. Like she’s trying to distract herself from something.
“Is there something I’ve missed between you two?” Kakashi-sensei asked, confusion evident in his tone.
“Nah,” Sasuke waved his hand, and before Kakashi-sensei could ask more, Sasuke had already dragged his desk to the very back of the class, right beside Hinata's, and sat there. He took out a piece of paper and a pencil from his backback and started sketching in the same manner that Hinata did.
His gaze darted to Kakashi-sensei’s eyes and the older man could see mischief in it.
“Hinata-chan has just asked me to sit with her today,” he stated.
Kakashi-sensei raised an eyebrow. He could see Sasuke’s hand holding Hinata’s tightly behind the chair.
Oh, he had definitely missed a lot.
This could be the worst day in Hinata’s life.
She didn’t have any idea what had went wrong to trap her in this.. this vile situation. She remembered that nothing was different yesterday, or the day before yesterday, or the day before that. Her schedule had always been the same, and had never changed even once. She had done everything she could to avoid acknowledgement from anyone, especially from people like him, and most especially, him.
Sasuke was still staring at her. And not only that, she could feel half the classes’ eyes were on her, too. Even Kakashi-sensei wasn’t really focusing on his lesson, but instead spared her more attention than he did to his lecture.
Other girls might be delighted to be faced with such spotlight, but not her. Hyuuga Hinata hated being noticed, she hated feeling so many eyes scrutinizing her every movement, and she especially hated the subsequent effect she’d be getting. Sasuke was a popular guy with a lot of girls dying to gain his attention. The fact that she, a generally unpopular, unliked girl, got it, would cause a lot of trouble for her.
“Why do you always hang your head like that?” Sasuke whispered to her. “Hey, Hina, why?”
At her newly-developed nickname, Hinata dropped her head down further. No one, and she meant no one, called her ‘Hina’ all her life. The name sounded too cute and too lively for someone as boring and as dull as her.
“Come on, answer me,” this time, Sasuke demanded attention by tapping her shoulder. “You’re not deaf or mute. I’ve heard you talk.”
Hinata tried her best to hide her goosebumps. A boy’s touch always do that to her.
“What are you drawing?” Sasuke still hadn’t given up. He dragged his chair closer to her, causing a creaking sound that made three fourth of the class turn their head in their direction.
Hinata’s hand was trembling. This time, her drawing looked awful. The most awful that she’d ever produced in a month. Uuughh! If only this scroundel wasn’t bothering her...
“Pssst! Sasuke-kun!” a girl whispered from the front. Hinata knew Sasuke could hear her, but had no idea why he chose to ignore her. She looked around and found that Haruno Sakura was the one calling.
She quickly bowed her head deeply. Sakura was a beautiful girl with a tendency to be violent at certain times. Not only that, but everyone who attended Konoha High School knew that she had harboured deep feelings for Sasuke since forever. Quite a few girls had become her victims, and Hinata didn’t even dare to wonder if she’s going to be the next one. With Sakura’s father being one of the founders of this school, she practically had the power to do anything.
“Sasukeee-kuun..!!” her voice was getting louder.
Finally, Sasuke responded. He put on a lazy face and whispered back, “What?”
Despite the roughness in his tone, Sakura remained cheerful. “Come sit beside me!” she mouthed. “It’s really booooring back there, right?”
That ‘booooring’ word probably referred to Hinata. She just knew it.
‘Yes yes, Sasuke-kuuun!’ Hinata thought. ‘Go back to your habitat and leave me alone with my peace, please!’
But no, he didn’t do that.
“Nu-uh,” Sasuke shook his head. A rather mischievous smirk flashed as he scrawled something on a piece of paper. After a while, he showed the scribbled paper to Sakura
Hinata took a peek and saw,
-
'It’s very exciting here, y’know.'
-
Sakura’s jaw dropped, and it didn’t return to it's normal position for a very long time.
As Sasuke busied himself with what he had took a break from doing (Annoying her), Hinata saw that Sakura’s gaze slowly turned to her. Those clear green eyes gradually turned malicious, and Hinata suddenly knew that it’s too late now.
She’s in trouble already.
