Chapter Ten: The Quiet Screaming
"Are you supposed to be the big, scary demon?" Rachel had suddenly found her voice once she realized that the enemy was just a little girl. Lilith gave a laugh and Castiel put out an arm to hinder Rachel from walking any further to the demon.
"Don't underestimate her," he warned, looking down at her with sincere eyes.
"You should listen to your angel, little pet," Lilith snickered. Rachel thought it was very odd how neither demon nor angel had done anything but speak a few words. She had expected some big bad battle to take place, but then again...why would Castiel have brought her along? It seemed like the minutes were ticking by as slow as molasses and she found herself putting two and two together to figure out what was supposed to happen. Castiel had insisted on keeping her safe. He turned out to be the very angel she used to talk to as a child. And then he had insisted she come follow him through miles of forest in the Colorado mountains in the middle of the night, followed by him telling her a very interesting story about...herself? She was the soul that had been forged from the depths of hell in the hands of an broken angel. Could she be the whole key to this whole thing? This war?
The air around them seemed to vibrate and Rachel looked around for Castiel but couldn't find him, which left her alone in the clearing with the demon. Rachel couldn't believe that the demon was possessing a child--or so she figured from the short demonology 101 class Dean and Sam had given her on the ride. If she remembered correctly, the girl would still be alive and might or might not be awake through this whole thing. Rachel felt instantly bad for her, but not a bit of sympathy for the demon.
Lilith's eyes seemed to glow as she lifted a hand, ready to dispose of the feeble looking human girl in front of her. Only she found herself having the same dilemma as had happened with Sam Winchester after Dean was killed by her hellhounds; the destructive light filtering from hand didn't seem to be effecting Rachel at all.
On Rachel's side, something much different was happening. She was scared out of her wits being alone with a demon and her eyes grew wide as plates when the bright light suddenly burst towards her. The light hit her and felt like it blasted through each of her atoms separately. The pain was immense, but Rachel found herself not able to make a sound. Strangely enough, she felt a sort of odd peace speaking to her through the pain, as if making sure she didn't go insane and held it together. For what purpose, she didn't know, but the light soon died down from Lilith's hand, and the demon's face held a half-frown, half-scared look.
Rachel could barely keep her thoughts together enough to realize what type of look the demon was wearing. Her head felt like it was being cracked open by a chisel and her fingers and arms felt like a million needles were being pushed into her skin. Her mind seemed to jump between a million things at once and she finally closed her eyes and let whatever it was inside of her to just do whatever it was it had to do.
Lilith was stuck in her place, unable to move as she watched the transformation in front of her. Light, almost blue in hue, seemed to suddenly be pushing itself out of the very skin of the girl and quite suddenly Lilith realized who it was she was up against. She had heard of the stories of a soul being forged in the depths of hell by Lucifer's very own special angel, but she had never thought that they were true.
The blue light--pure soul--suddenly burst through the human body that housed it, blinding light suddenly going on in waves through the trees, shredding Lilith to pieces in moments. Father away, back at the hotel, Dean and Sam noticed the odd light display going on up on the slope of a mountain nearby and watched as nearly invisible waves like sonic booms seemed to flatten trees. Just as suddenly as they had appeared, the light and waves were gone. Dean and Sam exchanged a glance before looking up at the sky again. Very suddenly, a bright ball of blue light seemed to sail up into the atmosphere like a backwards comet. If you blinked, you would have missed it.
A/N: If you don't get the ending...well use your imagination people and think about the SPN episodes with Anna. Although Rachel's different than Anna, it might help. Anyway, that's it. Hope you liked.
