Summary: A gift.

Blood dripped from the tip of his claws, pooling on the ground at his feet. Crimson and thick, Sesshoumaru watched in silence as drop after drop fell. He could have ended the life quickly and painlessly, and without leaving a trace. And yet, for some reason, he chose this option instead. Within his palm the heart sat lifeless, motionless, having given its last beat a moment before.

Scoffing, he was unwilling to give it anymore thought. It was a whim, something he didn’t follow very often, but rarely regretted when he did. He watched the girl look at him in both surprise and horror from her place on the ground. Momentarily puzzled, he wondered why he acted as he did. He didn’t kill randomly, nor did he kill for the benefit of others.

“Get up,” he demanded, inwardly sickened the scene. Despite his dislike for Inuyasha and his companions, it didn’t look right to see the miko lying on the ground shaking, and bloodied from battle. She should have been stronger than this. “Inuyasha has been remiss with your training. I expect nothing less from the half-breed.”

“Hey!”

Her voice was parched and worn from the earlier shouting. Looking at the organ in his hand, he glanced back at her, making his decision. Tossing the heart easily, it landed next to her, causing her to startle slightly.

It was enough. “I expect nothing less from a human,” he continued, turning his back to her. His reasons for his actions today would have to be examined at another time.
