Summer.

Living out in a desert, it had never exactly been Spike’s favourite time of the year. The unnecessarily hot weather often left him panting and laying in the shade, trying and failing to keep cool. But he had found in recent months that it was his favourite time of year.

Yeah, it was still just as hot – he was fairly sure that nothing short of Megatron himself could find a way to change that. And yeah, it was uncomfortable and irritating and insects continued to pester him. But the simple fact that this was the time of year that he had first met Bumblebee had made everything about that seem pale and insignificant.

It had been a year now, hadn’t it? Of course, after all, this was the first summer that Bumblebee – or any Autobot – was to spend the whole of here.

Relaxing outside next to the yellow mech, he was content. His fingers were intertwined with Bumblebee’s, the two so close that he was sure that the Cybertronian could hear him breathing. The sand was soft like a cushion, though both would admit that wasn’t the reason that they had stayed there so long.

Bumblebee shifted closer, and despite the hot summer sun, the human couldn’t help but let out a contented sigh.

“I love you, Bumblebee.”

A smile crossed the mech’s face. “I love you too, Spike.”
