Chapter Eight: Goodbyes
"Kevin," Kara whispered, seeing some of the DNAliens coming too. Gwen and Ben weren't moving so she used a light wind gust to lift Kevin off the ground and put him gently on the roof of the closest building before dropping down onto it herself.
"Oh god." She knelt down next to him, checking his pulse because she could barely see if he was breathing. "Kevin, get up," she whispered, tears forming in her eyes. "Get up, you stupid metalhead," she sniffed.
Ben and Gwen both came too and noticed that Kevin and Kara were gone. "Where are they?" Gwen asked, looking around. Ben shrugged as he helped his cousin up. Gwen made some energy steps for her and her cousin and the two started looking for the others. Ben heard Kara before he saw her. Gwen looked over the edge of the building next and saw Kevin, making her gasp. Ben stepped onto the roof, motioning for Gwen to stay.
"Is he okay?" Ben asked, taking a small step forward.
"No," she snapped, looking up and wiping her cheeks.
"We should get him to a hospital, Kara."
Kara nodded as Ben turned into Humongousaur and picked up Kevin. Kara spotted Gwen and the girls got into Kevin's car, since Kara was the only one who knew how to drive out of the two. The hospital was a few minutes away and Ben carried Kevin all the way there as Kara gripped the steering wheel, looking like she was about to kill someone. Gwen didn't speak, the look on the other girl's face scaring her.
Ben got down to human form when they got to the front of the emergency room. Kara and Gwen ran out of the car and Kara explained things to the doctor. It wasn't hard for Kara to just say that he got into a super big fight and was unconcious and they took him away. Ben and Gwen sat in the lobby as Kara paced in front of them.
"How the hell could this happen? Why wasn't that fucking alien going after you?" Kara exclaimed, putting her hands on her hips and looking down at Ben. "This shit would have never happened before. How the fuck could you not have done more?" Her eyes misted over and her hands clenched as she looked down.
Ben could tell she was upset so he didn't say much. "He chose to help. This doesn't usually happen. I'm sorry," he replied.
"Gah!" Kara ran a hand through her messy hair and plopped down in an a chair opposite the Tennysons. She rested her elbows on her knees and kept her hands tangled in her hair. "Let him be okay, let him be okay," she repeated over and over, only loud enough for herself to hear.
None of them were keeping track of the time, but it felt like iforever/i before the doctor came back and said Kevin was awake and could see them. Kara literately ran to his room like an XLR8, leaving Gwen and Ben behind.
"Kevin!" she exclaimed when she walked into his room. She rushed forward and threw her arms around him.
"Whoa, I'm okay," he told her, wrapping an arm around her.
"You sure?" she asked, backing off as the Tennysons came into the room.
"Glad you all were worried 'bout me," Kevin said, crossing his arms, a slight smirk on his face.
"You weren't looking so good. Thank Kara, she got the alien off you," Ben told him.
Kevin looked over at Kara and half-smirked, half-grinned. "Thanks, Kara.
"I know it's a weird time," Ben started. "But do you want to join our team? You really took care of those aliens."
Kara scroffed and crossed her arms, her kick-ass look coming back. "I don't join teams, shortbus, and I don't help people," she replied.
"You don't count today?" Gwen asked, looking over at the other girl.
"I know Kevin. I won't save strangers. It's too much work."
"You going back to the shithole streets again?" Kevin asked, almost sounding worried.
"Probably," Kara replied with a shrug. "But don't worry," she paused and kissed him on the cheek, "I can take care of myself. And, I have that Plumber's badge so you could always find my ass." She ruffled Kevin's hair like when she first met him and stopped in front of the Tennysons. "Nice metting you guys. Oh and Gwen," she leaned closer so just the other girl could hear, "wait for Kevin to ask you out. He will, believe me." Stepping passed the two, she turned around and smiled at them all before turning once more and walking down the hall and out of the hospital.
A/N: All done.
So this in no way was a bashing on Gwen or Gwevin. I absolutely love that ship, but this came to mind after 'Plumber's Helpers' so I just wrote it. Hope you liked XD
