First Contact

Author’s notes: I thought I would retire but here I am back again… Haiz, well, might as well enjoy writing while I still can :) Getting quite out of touch with POT, so I can only write AU stories now…Progress may be rather slow, since I am getting even older and rather busy now.

It’s a strange story actually… Might be confusing at first. Haven't been writing for a long time, so please bear with me...

Pairing: Fuji x Eiji

Why weren’t you with him? Why did it have to be my boy” The lady had tears streaming down her face, and her voice turned accusing. “The rumours are true, aren’t they? You knew, didn’t you? Why didn’t you warn him?!”

I…” the boy with brown hair took a few steps back, not knowing how to answer. He tried his best to warn his friend, yet he wouldn’t listen. No, this wasn’t the case. No matter what he did, he wouldn’t be able to change the outcome.

Stop it, Fuji kun wouldn’t have known. It was an accident...” The gentleman patted Fuji on his head and sighed.

The boy could only stare at the cold white walls, holding back his tears, as he made up his mind never to let anyone know about the gift he had. It was better for them not to know, than to rush into the inevitable ending…

“Bye, enjoy your lunch,” with his usual smile and polite demeanour, Fuji Syuusuke bid his classmates goodbye and left alone. He was used to the puzzled looks that they gave him. They were the same looks he had seen since a long time back. It didn’t matter what they said behind his back. He made his choice and it was for the better.

Fuji pushed away the old memories as he swung his bag over his shoulder and stepped out from the air conditioned building. A gust of wind blew at him the moment he came into contact with the warm air. It felt strangely comfortable, even though the air was humid and pregnant with the threat of heavy rain. Fuji glanced up at the sky. The clouds were grey and looming across the skies. If rain did fall, the droplets would be big and they would cover the ground with a carpet of water in no time.

As Fuji started walking away from the building, he was suddenly knocked backwards when someone crashed right into him. The other party was obviously in a hurry and didn’t look where he was going. However, Fuji wasn’t bothered by the crash – he was more shocked by the images that suddenly flashed across his eyes.

“Ah! I’m so sorry! Hey, are you ok?” A very apologetic voice shook Fuji out of his daze.

“Yes, I am fine,” finally regaining his composure, Fuji nodded and managed a small smile at the young man with striking red hair.

“Here let me help you,” The young man placed his hand on Fuji’s arm to help him get up, but Fuji quickly pulled away.

“I can get up by myself, thanks.”

“Oh, ok. By the way, I’m Kikumaru Eiji. Nice to meet you,” Eiji wanted to reach out his hand but Fuji avoided eye contact, so he decided not to embarrass himself further.

“Fuji Syuusuke.”

An uncomfortable silence followed after Fuji’s apparently uninterested response.

“Well, I’m sorry about the crash. Erm, I’ve got to go. See you around.”

“Goodbye.” Fuji watched as Eiji hurriedly turned to go and felt guilty about being so rude. However, the vision he had while in contact with Eiji was disturbing. Fuji shook his head to try clear his mind. Perhaps he had seen wrongly, the brown haired man tried to convince himself. After all, the contact was very brief and the vision hadn’t last very long.

A few drops of rain fell and distracted Fuji from his thoughts. He quickly covered his head with his bag and started running for shelter as the rain began to pour. The incident with Eiji was quickly forgotten.

Eiji stifled a yawn and tried to listen to the lecturer. It was rather difficult, no thanks to the monotonous droning and the distracting whispers of the girls sitting in front of him. He didn’t want to eavesdrop, but his sharp ears couldn’t help catching every word they were saying. At first, he didn’t pay attention to their chatter, but a familiar name sparked his interest. Fuji Syuusuke… Wasn’t it the person he crashed into the other day?

“He is cute, isn’t he? And really smart too. They don’t call him a genius for nothing.” The girl on the left whispered.

“Yeah, he is smart. Scarily smart too. There is a strange rumour about him. Did you hear?”

“What is it? Tell me!”

“They said Fuji could predict the future.”

“Huh? How can that be true?”

“I don’t know. It’s just a rumour. Maybe he is just too smart?”

Eiji didn’t manage to hear any more of their conversation as the lesson ended at that point in time, but the rumour piqued his interest. Just as he stood up to leave, he caught sight of a familiar face exiting the lecture hall. So Fuji was in the same lecture too? Making up his mind in a split second, Eiji quickly grabbed his bag and ran towards the same exit.
