Kaci stood thirty yards behind the strange, mysterious, and dazzling creatures inhumanely, but gracefully, suck the life out of the helpless grizzly bear laying on the ground. There were four, one large, intimidating male, another male with bronze hair and a dazzling figure, a long haired brunette girl, and one short one with black, pixie cut hair, Anyone else that was bearing witness in the past would've believed that these creatures could never stand a chance against a bear, but Kaci had no doubt. They weren't human, for sure. The tallest one, with the waist long brown hair sunk her teeth slowly, cutting through his fur and butter as if it were mashed potatoes. Suddenly, she got tapped on the shoulder about a blink later to find them all behind her. Kaci cringed and was prepared for immediate death, like they tell in the ledgends and myths she was so obsessed with.

The largest male, with a frightening figure spoke up with a thundering voice. "Have I lost my senses?" he laughed. She was confused, but didn't have time to think it over.

The bronze haired one with the square features looked strangely at her. He squinted his eyes, as if he couldn't see, though she was pretty sure that was not the problem in this situation. He placed his hand on my shoulder and sniffed Kaci's neck, but not too soon later, he lifted his head- to Kaci's surprise- and opened his mouth to speak in such a low voice, she almost couldn't make it out. "She has no scent. She has no heartbeat. You can catch the scent of her clothes, can't you?" Kaci subconciously stared down at the black jeans and blood red top she was wearing. "But it's not like she's dead- even those corpses give off a scent or something. She's not normal."

Her head spun out of control at his words. "No scent? No heartbeat? Not normal? That was impossible, wasn't it? A doctor could make out her-" she paused half way through her train of thought when she remembered the last time she visited a doctor, she was still an infant. But still- she wasn't out of the ordinary anywhere. Her entire life, Kaci was one of the girls that blended in too much- always shadowed by someone better, greater then her. There's no way she could be that different.

"W... what do you m... m.. mean?" she spoke up for the first time. Though her voice was barely audible, they easily picked it up. She noticed all their mouths were twitching, and eventually concluded that they were discussing something. Kaci could pick up scarcely any movements in the mouth, and only got a glimpse of words like, no, danger, maybe, different, and her.

The bronze haired one looked back over at the taller woman. "Well, Bella. Maybe you're not one of a kind after all. I can't detect a trace of her thoughts." Kaci stared back at the somewhat now sour-looking brunette. A tiny part of her mind laughed. She was jealous of her? The one that was about to die?

The tiny, shorter one spoke up for the first time. "She won't be of any trouble. I can see that." She looked at me with soft, golden eyes. "Why did you sneak up on us?" she asked her kindly, as if not trying to force the question into Kaci's skull.

"I'm... uh..." she tried to remember why in the first place, when it suddenly came towards her like a wrecking ball. She curled up into a small ball and started crying, as if she was 6, not 13. "My house was burnt down in a fire. My family got trapped is dead. I have nowhere to go. I was running, and I noticed you in the opening. I couldn't help it," her head fell into her arms, "Are you going to devour me now?"

Kaci saw their eyes flash towards each other- so quickly, she might have imagined it. The one that just talked to Kaci burst out laughing. "Devour you? We're not savages."

"And you have no scent," the bigger one added.

"Would it be dangerous to have her in the guestroom? Just until we find some relatives?" the girl that one of them had called Bella asked.

"Didn't you hear what I said?" the short one asked again, still so... enthusiastic. "She won't be of any trouble. I doubt Jazz will go off on someone he can't even tell is there." she glanced back at Kaci and let out her hand to pull her up. "I'm Alice. The big one's Emmett. That's Bella, and the one next to her is Edward. You can stay with us just until you can find a place to stay." Kaci accepted her help and stood up as the began to lead her to their house. What was ahead, she had no idea. But for once, she felt like she belonged...
