A/N: Okay, I haven't written a fic in a while and this is to get me back into the swing of writing again. I realize it may suck but the plot got stuck in my head and I had to write it so... this is the product of my imagination. Please review.... even with critisism. On that note, hopefully you enjoy the fic, I wanted to add a bit of Lizwin but decided it should have a clear focus. Marti is pretty OOC.
Disclaimer: Dasey, Lizwin and probably Salph would be cannon if I owned the show...... and they aren't sadly enough :(.
Marti heard the crying that was coming from Casey’s old room and tried to ignore it. Marti hated that child; she blamed it for the death of her brother and step-sister. She listened as Nora walked up the stairs and into the crying child’s room. Nora must have soothed the young child because the cries became quieter and Nora eventually walked downstairs.
Marti closed her eyes and tried to stop the tears that old memories provoked. She missed her eldest brother so much. How he had confided in her, protected her from most evils and how he had held her closest to his heart along with Casey.
Marti missed Casey too. Casey; Marti’s smart, beautiful step-sister who had been cautious, intelligent, clumsy, and accident-prone but also challenging, sneaky, and perfect for Derek.
Marti hugged her knees and rocked back and forth on the covers of her bed. She was 16, but why did she feel as weak as if she was seven again?
Against her wishes and beyond her control the memories seemed to seep into her mind.
Derek and Casey with their baby. Casey ever reluctantly giving the child to Nora for the night. Casey saying goodbye as Derek lead her to the car. Then the memories skipped forward to Nora opening the door to the police officer; the police officer bearing the horrible news about Derek and Casey.
When the images in her mind finally came to a halt and Marti blinked to clear the tears from her eyes. She slowly rose from the bed and walked out into the hall. She made the short walk to the old master bedroom which had once been Casey’s room and was now “the baby’s” room. Marti pushed open the door and then turned to stare at her niece.
It’s all your fault, Marti thought coldly. But even as she thought it she couldn’t honestly hate the poor child. Marti took a few steps forward and stopped when she was looking directly down at the now 2 year old. Marti felt the familiar stab of looking into eyes identical to her brother’s.
“They came back for you.” She spoke quietly, almost to herself. “If they hadn’t had to come back for you they would have gone home, in the other direction.” Marti paused, “and they would have lived.” The words came so quietly from her mouth. Marti’s cheeks were damp from fresh tears. Young Chloe seemed to understand as tears ran silently down her face, a face filled with what could only be grief for parents she couldn’t possibly remember. Marti lifted Chloe up and held her closely to her side. It was wrong to blame an innocent toddler for something that had shattered her own life.
As Marti looked into Chloe’s eyes, the eyes of her brother, she felt Derek watching her. Marti smiled even though some tears remained on her face.
I miss you, she thought, but you and Casey did leave behind something of value. Marti smiled at her brother’s legacy, “Chloe,” she spoke aloud.
So implied Dasey. Not my best work but I plan to improve my writing in the future and I LOVE trying out different styles too, one style can get really boring after a while.
Now Chloe.... I just picked that name randomly. And reading the story over... I find it similar to Dark Thoughts so the writing style isn't all that different.
