Freak
“Look at that guy and his daemon. I didn’t know that tigers got that big.”
“Dude look at those freaks. Have you ever seen anything like them?”
Sam sighed as he and Haythia walked down the crowded halls of Stanford University. He could hear the people and daemons around them talking. Haythia nuzzled his hand a bit as they walked trying to calm his nerves. It was true that she was a little bigger than most tigers but he was taller than both his brother and father so it couldn’t be that weird. Could it? God he felt like he was in high school again the only difference being that Haythia had settled. He’d been labeled a freak then too because he was so tall and because no matter what form Haythia took then she was always bigger than she should have been. Even now that she had settled she stood up about five inches past his knee.
“God he’s so tall and what’s with his daemon?”
“Hey Brie look at him. Do you see that guy and his daemon?”
“Ya I see them.”
“Maybe we shouldn’t have come Haythia.” Sam said in a low voice as he opened the door leading out side. With any luck they’d be back in their dorm room in a few minutes. Haythia growled low in her throat and looked up at her human.
“You know as well as I do Sam that I never would have settled if we had stayed. We need this no matter what Dean and your father say.” Sam nodded in agreement and ran his hand through his hair before scratching behind one of Haythia’s ears causing the tiger to purr. What she said was true. They hadn’t been able to settle while traveling the country with their family. No matter how they felt now they needed this. They needed to be alone to find out who they were and what they were going to become. Dean and Vira may have been happy fallowing their dad’s orders but Sam and Haythia hadn’t been. That was something neither John nor Antigone had been able to understand. John’s words still played over in his head every time he thought about going back. But his own father had made that nearly impossible and Sam refused to look weak in front of his father and his brother.
“That guy is such a freak.”
Haythia growled as she looked up at the boy who had spoken. His iguana daemon was perched on his shoulder. Both boy and daemon tensed as they walked by. Haythia knew that many of the people they passed by everyday were afraid of them. She knew that both human and daemon could feel the silent danger that surrounded both her and her human. They knew how to defend themselves and they would if they needed too. In the right situation Sam could be just a lethal as she could be when she wanted. Haythia’s ear’s perked a bit at the sound of a soft click.
Sam turned the handle to the door and seconds later both boy and daemon were in the room. The room was small as most dorm rooms were. Sam’s however was a bit smaller due to the fact that it was meant for only one person and their daemon. It was also one of the cheaper rooms but it worked for him. Haythia jumped up onto the bad as Sam sat at a desk a few feet away before pulling his laptop out of his satchel and turning it on. It had taken him nearly three years to save up enough money for the laptop that he was using. Most of the money had come from saving what he could of his lunch money and the money that his dad and Dean would give him from time to time in case he needed something. The soft whir of the laptop booting up was the only sound in the room before both Sam and Haythia sighed at the same time and looked at each other.
“God we can’t even get away from the freak label after you’ve settled and high school. Now all we’re missing is the bully who thinks I’m an easy target.” Haythia growled a bit and ran a paw over her nose. She remembered just as well as Sam did. “Wasn’t that just one bully and if I’m not mistaken that was in fifth grade and Dean and Vira kicked his ass after he gave you one bloody nose.”
Sam snorted and shook his head a bit. Dean and Vira , a Siberian Husky daemon, had always been ready to protect him from anyone and anything.
“I feel guilty now.”
“So do I.”
And boy did they. Now was another moment that both Sam and Haythia wished that they hadn’t left. It was because of John no this thread of guilt was attached to Dean and Vira and them alone. They both felt bad about leaving them behind.
“No one ever said anything about us when we had someone with us but now…’
“We just seem to attract all sorts of attention.”
“Yup. So we’re freaks no that it’s just us.”
“Looks like it.”
“I guess I can live with that. How about you Thia? Can you?”
“I can if you can Sammy.”
Sam smiled and turned to look at the computer screen. They’d be okay given time and if not well he could always call Dean. Because Dean had been right about people and daemons all along. They say freak when you’re singled out.

Oh and I have kinda crappy pic’s of Sam, Dean, and John with their daemons on my DeviantArt account. If your interested the links on my profile page.
