Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Chapter 1

The women lay soothed, satisfied and happy. Yet independently each lives a life of such sorrow and full of lies. They needed each other like a wave needs water to exist.

“Sarah,” she paused, “Did you know I love you?”

“Hmm…” She relies huskily, “yes I do. Furthermore, I know… I love you more.”

Grace shifted to her side so she could look into her lover’s eyes. “I have to tell you something that I don’t think you’re going to want to hear.”

“No, wait, I’ve got to be honest with you about something, and then you can tell me.”

Sarah let out a tired sigh. “Let me go first, please? Sarah shared her remarkable story with Grace, something she’d never spoken with anyone outside their circle. Grace listened calmly and quietly and when Sarah was done she looked into Grace’s eyes for some reaction, some emotion.

Without a word Grace rolled over to the night stand at her side of the bed and retrieved a beautiful handgun. “I’m going to give this to you. If you ever feel you or John is in danger from me, this and this alone will kill me.” She placed it in Sarah’s hands. Sarah looked at her compassionately.

“In the future John finally develops a way to put a human brain in a robot’s body. What you don’t know is that he’ll figure out how to allow the machine retain its human personality and memories. The body perfectly regenerates and can consume food of course. After building this he destroyed his lab and everything in it. John wanted to protect his mother, you Sarah, I am your protector.”

Sarah backed away and got out of bed. She dressed quickly and left without a word.

“Well that’s just shit. She said to herself.

When she was dressed Grace sat at the kitchen table and cried. Machine or no, she was in love with Sarah. Grace’s heart was raw. The day was almost over and Sarah hadn’t come back.

Sarah came sailing in the front door of their house with the gun Grace had given her tucked in the front of her jeans. She crashed into John and the gun went clattering to the floor. John picked it up before she could retrieve it.

“Whoa there mom, you’re home. Relax.”

“Give it back to me John.” She demanded, not wanting him to look at it too closely.

“This baby is hot.” He said returning it to her. “Why are you so jumpy about it?”

She took a deep breath to slow her racing heart down. “It’s just a little something I got for myself.”

“Yeah, but we have lots of guns.”

“Yeah, but I wanted a special one for myself. Other women buy jewelry, I buy guns.”

“Okay, so you have a new hobby. Did you come home last night?”

“John, do you think I’m a grown woman?”

“Wwwhat’d you mean.”

“Sometimes a woman has needs.”

“Like what?”

“John you can be so thick some times. Go ask your friend Riley, I’m sure the two of you together know what I mean.” She turned about and left, slamming the door after her.

John looked at Cameron who was silently observing things from the living room.

“I don’t know. She seems upset.” Cameron replied. “What did you do?”

John shrugged his shoulders. “Beats me.”

Sarah drove around for hours crying on and off. Just when she was sure she was done, she’d start again. She even made herself throw-up once. How could she not know her lover was a machine? Monster or know, she knew that she did love her.

There was a knocking at the door and Grace sprang up to answer it. Sarah looked determined and walked passed Grace into the apartment. Shutting the door Grace turned to face Sarah.

“Show me exactly where to shoot you to make it a kill, and then I’m good. Damn it! I can’t walk away from you. The more I try to get you out of my head, the more you’re in it. You’re in my soul. I can’t do this anymore without you. I need you by my side for strength”

“I know. That’s why John sent me. And the spot is point blank on the base of my skull at the cerebral cortex, but only that gun with those rounds will do it. I’ve put my life in your hands Sarah, now let me take you in mine.” The women embraced and held on like the world was ending…. And it was. Unless they could stop it in time
