summary: “I need you Sasuke!” You’re my life, Sakura… “Please don’t leave!” I don’t want to…
dedication and inspiration: This fic is dedicated to someone I have never spoken to in my life, actually. I saw yet another SasuSaku video and this one really made me want to write a fic about it. It’s dedicated to kheartsterra whose videos are always so awesome. Her video Shattered, SasuSaku is awesome. The link is at the end.
Shattered
By: riane.
The day they met, was the day his heart was taken away.
“Hi! I’m Sakura Haruno!”
“And I’m Sasuke Uchiha.”
So many missions did they go on together—and so many times did they forget that they weren’t alone. They always thought they were alone, both admiring each other from afar.
“Good morning, Sasuke!”
“Let’s take a walk together—only you and me.”
So many times did she need to be saved—like a damsel in distress. And he was her knight in shining armor—always saving her from dangers.
“Sakura!”
“You’re telling me because you care about me!” She grinned at him immaturely.
“I…uh…guess that’s true.” Smirk.
They laughed. They had fun. They were happy. But his desire for revenge was too strong, and there was always a constant reminder everywhere—that he wasn’t strong enough… that he lacked hatred.
He thought he was powerless. But to her, he was as much as invincible. They went through many things together…
And her feelings that once were just a crush bloomed into something powerful… invincible—just like his power. Endless. Eternal.
And I’ve lost who I am
And I can't understand
Why my heart is so broken
Rejecting your love
Without love gone wrong
Life
Less words
Carry on
And they had stayed the same—despite the things that had happened over the years. And now, he was standing before her, Naruto, Yamato and Sai; wearing a completely different outfit, showing off his broad chest, his hair blowing innocently in the wind.
“Sa…Sasuke-kun…” She whispered, holding back tears.
“What’s happening to me…?” He stared at his hands.
Orochimaru had changed him so much—and she felt a completely different aura from him than before. Before he was her safety, her comfort. Now she felt as if he was dangerous and uninviting.
“Sasuke!”
“Sakura.”
She was his life, but he was too much of a wimp to tell her. He was her need, her desire; her entire being. And she made sure that he knew it.
But he couldn’t show her his feelings. It was against the guy code. (What guy code?—)
Who I am from the start
Take me home to my heart
Let me go
And I will run
I will not be silenced
He was a twisted being; tainted by hatred, sadness and vengeance. He could never be on to love someone.
She was happy, always elated and grinning. Her mood lifted his, even if it was by a fraction.
“Why won’t you ever tell me anything?”
“It’s none of your concern.”
He continued to protect her by all means—saving her from any kind of danger. It was all because she was important to him, and he knew it, but didn’t want to show it.
“I lost important people… I never want to see again!”
Even if they didn’t always get along, they always had that warm feeling hanging in the air as she glared at him, or he smirked in arrogance. Then she would smile warmly back at him.
But even so… he wasn’t happy. He was tainted black; he was filled with hatred, thoughts of vengeance, and desires of an avenger.
And slowly, he was loosing himself in the midst of it all. He was beginning to twist darkly around that thread; the one with vengeance inscribed. He was turning darker, cutting himself from outer contact.
All this time spent in vain
Wasted years
Wasted gain
All is lost
Hope remains
And this war's not over
Then he reached the highest point in his insanity, when he got the impression that Konohagakure didn’t give him enough power. So, he left. He was going to leave her there, alone…
“DON’T LEAVE ME!” Pain.
He was gritting his teeth together harshly, stopping himself from turning around and staying.
He took a step towards the outside again. And more tears had poured down her red, puffy cheeks.
“STOPPPPPPPPP—! NOOOOOO!”
He kept going, holding himself back painfully.
“Am I supposed to stay here and watch you tear yourself apart? I can’t watch…”
“Then don’t watch! Stay out of it!” He growled.
“I love you so much I can’t stand it…”
And here he was, standing with a stoic and emotionless expression on his face. He looked undisturbed by their reunion, and it seemed it hadn’t stirred any old emotions in him.
“I need you, Sasuke…”
“I know.”
“DON’T LET GOOOO!”
…—And sometimes it was even her saving him. But there was so little she could do for him; she was not strong, she could just be brave.
She could care for him; tend for him when he was injured—wiping away the pain with her soft and gentle touches.
But after he left; they were both the same. Broken, shattered—but she didn’t long for revenge, nor was she twisted with darkness.
“Sasuke!”
“Sakura.”
Their ties were twisted, tainted with darkness—a love that could never happen… because he was not there anymore. His heart lingered, but his whole presence disappeared.
She was stubborn. She needed him; he was part of her.
“DON’T LEAVE ME!”
And Sasuke was suffering endlessly, hearing her cries of plea and pain.
Now they rejoin three years later; and he was looking her straight in the eye—as if telling her that he no long needed her.
And at the sight of that, her heart clenched tightly in her chest.
The sun used to shine above them, a luminous light radiating off of it—lighting their path ahead of them.
But he chose the dark side, where no sun was visible.
“All I ever wanted was for you to accept me, Sasuke… that’s all…”
She longed for his recognition, his acceptance. And he had always given it in secret. She wanted his respect, though she didn’t know she already had it.
She would push herself to the limit. Push herself beyond her limits so that she could reach him once again. Defy the ability to move on.
“I… uh… guess that’s true.”
“You really meant it?” Hope.
“That’s right, Sakura.”
He even almost died once. Actually, he was always put in life-or-death situations. She always wept, mourning for his fake death—but he always came back, for her.
He woke up, his eyes fluttering open with Sakura on top of him, sobbing her eyes out. And he felt alive, despite all his wounds, pricking through his skin, slowly creating pain.
“Sasuke!”
“Sakura…”
“DON’T LEAVE!!!”
But he left her anyways. It was all because he wanted to protect her. Stop from Sound to come here and hurt his precious people to get him.
He didn’t want to see that horrible picture of her, her lifeless body crumpled around a sharp, menacing sword, blood pooling around her agonizingly.
And she didn’t want to see him in agony, his teeth gritting together, his eyes turning to a sharp crimson and Sharingan churning threateningly.
“I can’t watch… Sasuke…”
“Then don’t watch!”
But she had to. She just had to. She had to make sure he was going to be okay; she was going to help him pull through it all.
He didn’t want to see his humanity, sanity and his being getting crushed and tortured. She was going to be his savior, no, she was his savior. She changed his intentions for leaving; she made him leave because he wanted to protect.
“I’m suffering because of those ties…”
Lies. He was lying!
And how twisted was it all, actually?
Their relationship—Sakura and Sasuke’s—was dark, twisted and was always meant to be; though they liked to avoid destiny.
“Thank you for caring…”
