A/N: This story was inspired in part by the song "Forget Her" by Jeff Buckley. If you don't know who he is, look him up. Immediately. You're missing out on some fine music. I own neither song nor characters, sadly enough. Enjoy and REVIEW, PLEASE!

FORGET HER

Chorus:

Don't fool yourself;

She was heartache from the moment

That you met her.

My heart is so still

As I try to find the will

To forget her some how.

I think I've forgotten her now…

PROLOGUE:

I'm a cop.

Been one for almost thirty years.

Worked in both big cities and small towns.

I've seen theft; murder; car wrecks that have given me nightmares for months afterwards. I've had to tell wives that husbands were never coming home, and vice versa. Even my best friend, Billy, wasn't spared from that horror when I had to tell him Myra had been killed by a drunk; a friend of his from the rez was the other driver. Worse, I've had to tell parents that their children would never walk through the door again. This is a gem of a job, I tell you.

Between the tragedies and the plain stupidity and pig meanness of people, the lies, and gossip, and adultery, I've seen a lot of pain in a lot of eyes, felt it rolling like a mist from a lot of bodies.

I've never, however, seen pain like I saw in the eyes of my daughter that last September.
