Hello! So, out of nowhere today, after being awake for about 36 hours straight, I had the urge to escape from finals and write something that would make me smile.
This little piece of Edmund and Lucy fluff certainly did. It's super short, but it served its purpose! Hope everyone enjoys it.
“Lu?”
“Hm?”
“How does one compete…you know, with ‘magnificent?’” Edmund tried very hard not to say the last word with a sneer in his voice like he would have three weeks ago, but, alas, old habits die hard.
Lucy looked up from her book at his tone and rested her chin in her hand.
“Well…I don’t really think you’re supposed to compete, Ed,” she said practically as a small breeze lifted her hair.
Edmund sighed and flipped over onto his back, staring up at the branches of the cherry tree. He had no doubt learned his lesson since his talk with Aslan and the defeat of the White Witch nearly a month ago now, but it was still very hard to always feel second best to an older brother - an older brother with the title of “Magnificent,” no less, who happened to be the High King, and therefore, more important than him, the less significant younger brother.
That’s how it felt, anyway, although since they had been at Cair Paravel the air had admittedly been cleared between the two brothers.
Edmund stayed silent, contemplating his fate and planning the amazing deeds he would do in a few years, when he was older and stronger and a better fighter. He would fight for justice in Narnia and in other countries, wherever people needed help. He might not be ‘magnificent’ but he could certainly live up to ‘just.’ Aslan had given him that title for a reason, hadn’t he?
“Edmund?”
“Hm?”
“I think you’re magnificent,” Lucy grinned impishly, obviously trying to make him feel better.
A few weeks ago, he probably would have rolled his eyes and tried to make her feel like a silly little girl. A few weeks ago he was a genuine jerk.
Edmund laughed, not a derisive snicker, but a genuine laugh.
“Thanks, Lu.”
One more thing! I'm a screener over at Narnia FanFiction Revolution (www. narniafanfiction. com), and they are currently accepting nominations for the first ever Revolution Awards! To nominate me or any other author of great Narnia fanfiction, check out their new message boards here : http:// narniafanfiction. yuku. com/ (The spaces are in the addresses because ff. net will mess them up otherwise.) While you're over at the boards, feel free to start posting about anything and everything! It would be really awesome for it to become a nice discussion group for aspiring writers! I've heard the queen of Narnia fanfic herself, TastyAsItGets, hangs out over there...come chat with us!
