That was what he had said, and he meant it. The only doubts he ever had that this statement was true came on the very same day, when he realized that it was his idea to go to the organic planet, his idea to stay and keep searching the caves.

Of course, those doubts didn’t last long when he remembered what Optimus had done. He tried to stay, tried to help her – but that self-centered, know-it-all bot had pulled him away. Optimus had said something like, “it isn’t worth it”, but how could that bot not understand? He would have given his function if it would have brought her back.

For what was function worth without her? Who would keep him in line, support his crazy ideas, sit with him when he just needed to be? Who would sit with him when it grew cold, a blanket wrapped around their shoulders to help them keep warm? Who would he walk with, talk with? Who would he tell how beautiful they were, whenever they felt down?

She was his day, his night, his spark, his soul, and she was lost forever.

And for that, he would never forgive the bot he once called a friend.
