I finally decided to rewrite the ending!!! WOOOT!!!! I think it's much better! Hopefully...... =_= Well, you all will be the judges of it! Hopefully it's not too bad at some points, I started falling asleep, again. Yeah, but it's to be expected, having a possibly broken nose is tiring -shrugs-. Anyways! The first part is EXACTLY the same, I just changed the RoyEd part, so if you want you can skip the whole first part! XD

My nose being broken (possibly), interesting story, I must say. And actually, it didn't hurt as bad as I thought....until AFTER the shock wore off, yeah, ouch.

First kisses,

They’re not all they’re chalked up to be. They’re said to be during such an intensely romantic moment that there’s literally nothing else you can do besides kiss. The lovers are supposed to look deep into the other’s, passion said to be boiling in the pits of their stomachs and drawing them nearer to each other. The kiss is supposed to be fiery, slow at first, but increasing with need each time they draw breathe through their nostrils so as not to break the kiss. When they pull away, the kiss is supposed to leave their lips searing hot from the kiss, and when they look into each other’s eyes again, they see something akin to love sprouting from the roots of their hearts. Whether that flower continues to grow and blossom, or grow and get cut back is completely up to the events that follow the kiss, though the majority of the time, a loving relationship formed.

His first kiss, well, he didn’t really see it as his first. He’d just done it to please her, and to see if he really did reciprocate the feelings that she had for him.

“Edward…” I heard her voice, soft and somewhat wistful. I turned from the moonlit pond that stood glowing in the small clearing in the forest not far from where the Rockbells lived. My eyes focused on her face, she was turned towards the moon herself, her gaze faraway, but completely conscience of the conversation she was starting. Her hair was put up a light blonde ponytail, her bangs almost a white color as they draped around her rosy cheeks, her bright, energy filled eyes dimmed with the serenity of the moment, blue and shining, glanced toward me as I looked toward her. Even though I still was doubting what feelings I really had for her as more than a friend, I couldn’t help but admit the fact that she really was a truly beautiful woman. Though she was a teenager, she had matured with my brother and I, witnessed just enough to have aged her mentally to a young woman.

“You’re going to be gone for a while aren’t you?” She asked quietly, turning to look back at me, her bangs falling slightly from her face. I glanced towards the pond centered almost unnaturally in the middle of the clearing, holding it there, not wanting to see the pain in her clear blue eyes, probably brimming with tears at the thought of Al and I leaving.

“Yeah..” I responded in the same quiet voice, closing my eyes and nodding before forcing myself to hold her gaze. She hummed and nodded in response to my answer, and only then did I notice the longing in her eyes that was so much greater than before, when I didn’t have to leave to Central the next day.

“Before you go….please Ed…..just once….” She trailed off, but I knew exactly what she meant as she leaned closer to me, her eyelids closing over brilliant blue orbs, her rose pink lips parted just slightly. I had to think about how long ago it had been since she had started feeling like this about me, it didn‘t come to me instantaneously anymore. In reality, it had only been a little longer than a year and a half, but that’s more than enough time for someone’s life to change completely. This was it, I’d been wondering what my true feelings for her were. At first I’d been slightly repulsed at the thought, she’d been my friend since birth practically, and the new change was unexpected and unwanted. But as I lived with it for a while, I grew used to the idea, and slowly the idea that it might not be so horrible to like her back took root in my mind.

After the failed human transmutation though, I was numb to everything until that man, Roy Mustang, showed up. He gave me the courage and determination I have now to get my life back to as normal as it will get. After he left, it was as if the world had jolted back to revolution after being abruptly stopped. I returned to having feelings towards my automail mechanic again, and secretly wondered about the dark haired Lieutenant, who seemed to have wormed his way into my thoughts. But as a year passed and neither Winry nor I spoke of our feelings, they started to dissipate, and I wondered if I even harbored them anymore. This was my chance to find out, and I was going to take it. I leaned forward to meet her lips, my eyes closed before they made contact though.

It was just as I’d expected, her lips were as soft as silk, and felt comfortable against my own, everything was going the way a first kiss should. But then the realization that this was entirely to comfortable hit me. The kiss felt comfortable, like kissing a sister goodnight, what was currently unfolding. I pulled away, looking away from her disappointment, toward the glimmering pond, not daring to face the sadness that I knew had taken hold of her expression.

“I’m sorry, I just don’t see you like you do me.” I forced my gaze to meet her crushed one as I spoke then. “I love you Winry, I really do, but, I love you as a dear sister, I’m sorry.” And it was with those words that I pulled her slightly trembling form into an embrace of both flesh and metal. I rubbed her back with my flesh hand, trying to sooth her as I felt the drops of salt water soak into the sleeve of my shirt. After a short while, and she’d calmed down considerably, she pulled away and smiled a teary smile.

“Thank you.” Was all she said, but I heard every reason for why behind those words.

His official first kiss wasn’t anything close to how it was described in the romance novels. It hadn’t been romantic, neither had felt the calm peace of romantic scenes. It wasn’t in a romantic location, just an everyday one. It was sloppy and rushed, nothing how it had been described in the books.

Edward sat in one of the many plush chairs that were sporadically placed throughout the library, starring at the book he held in his right hand, but not seeing the fine print on the pristine white page. He was deep in thought, but the average soldier wouldn’t notice if they passed him, one could only tell by the faraway glaze that was painted over his golden irises. He let out a subconscious sigh of frustration as he thought of the person that had started to occupy his thoughts and, just recently occurring, dreams. The man that he had first met after the incident with his mother, Roy Mustang.

His first impression of him, well, technically second, was that he was some cocky, ego-inflated bastard who was just seemingly trying to make his life miserable by jabbing at his height, and sending him on missions that would take hours to get to. The Colonel had somehow learned how to push his buttons just right, and did it so much that it could cause him to seethe for days. But as time passed, the screaming and yelling of insults turned to a sort of witty banter, as each would try to outdo the other, and he’d grown to enjoy trying to outwit Mustang. But had anyone listened to their conversation, they’d have only seen the continuation of insults being hurled at one another. Over time, they’d grown to be almost, well, friends, though neither would admit it to the other.

It was some unspoken treaty of sorts, and they’d began to ease up on the masks that they both so firmly put in place to hide what was truly being felt. If Ed wasn’t feeling up to facing the world with complete and udder confidence of accomplishing his goal, he’d retreat to Roy’s office. The man wouldn’t force anything out of him, and would keep to himself, letting Ed ponder over things and allow the doubt that he contained, show. Sometimes, without warning, Ed would allow himself to tell Mustang about what was currently occupying his thoughts. He didn’t care if he received an answer or not, it was mostly just to break the tension that would build some days worse than others, and it felt comforting to have someone there to listen to what was being said, someone other than his brother.

He didn’t mind talking to Al, but he didn’t want his little brother to see the lack of confidence that possessed him; he wanted Al to think that he knew, one hundred percent sure, that he would get his brother’s body back. He wanted to protect his brother now, in a failure of an attempt to make up for not protecting him when he really did need protecting.

And in return, whenever Mustang couldn’t hold his mask up, and assure everyone one that he was fine, he’d call for Ed to come in. He wouldn’t talk about what was bothering him, but Ed could tell that he was remembering the war in Ishbal, the horrible memories that beheld unbearable sights and sounds. Roy also wouldn’t speak of the reason why he wanted Ed in the room, whether it be equivalent exchange, or just the need for some company Ed didn’t know. But he knew that the Colonel wasn’t as hell bent in following the law of equivalent exchange as he was, so he dubbed it as the need for company. The question of what Roy saw burned in his mind, though he wouldn’t ask it. He told Roy what he wanted him to hear, and didn’t receive any questions, so in return, didn’t ask anything of what was on the Colonel’s mind.

The day came when Maes Hughes was murdered by Envy, disguised as Maria Ross, and it seemed as though the train that had started to pick up speed between Roy and himself, crashed. He knew the man was grieving, and he grieved with him, though the Colonel had known Hughes for a much longer time than Ed had, causing the pain for his ‘friend’ to be so much greater. He allowed the man time to himself, only stepping in for company when asked, though it wasn’t often at all. Whenever he saw the man though, something caused his heart to constrict with pain for the sadness that enveloped Roy. Something that made him want to comfort the man, and he’d followed through with the idea once.

It was awkward, and he could tell that Roy probably just wanted to be left alone, but he was stubborn, and continued to keep him company that entire day, adding a pat on the shoulder every once in a while, allowing his eyes to convey everything he had to say to Roy. He couldn’t tell if he’d appreciated it or not though, so he didn’t act on the odd feeling he contained a second time.

After a while, he stopped getting any calls to keep Roy company, and this left him worried. So when he’d have a particularly hard day, he’d stop in and sit on the couch that sat near the center of Roy’s office. He wouldn’t talk, wouldn’t let the man have to carry the burden of anything he said, he just starred at the wall across from his seat and drifted off into his thoughts. He could feel the man’s reluctance at allowing him to stay though, and started coming less and less, until he didn’t come in at all except for receiving missions and giving reports.

The odd little feeling that he’d developed started to seize him then. He started feeling almost lonesome as the time passed and the mutual understanding that he and Roy had once come to was forgotten. He missed being able to tell the Colonel what was on his mind, and he missed being able to keep the man company when he needed it. With these emotions, he became confused, he didn’t know if what he felt was friendship, or something more. No one had ever taught him what love felt like, he realized with a bitter taste tainting his mouth. As he tried to sort through all the things he felt, he became somewhat reckless on the missions he was sent on, resulting in some numerous scrapes that sometimes left him with more than just a small cut. He wouldn’t include that information in his reports though, and Roy had to be informed by Alphonse while his brother was resting, causing Ed to be scorned by Al on a regular basis, and Roy whenever he went to give his reports.

Not long after though, Ed handed in his report from his last mission, and as he watched Roy’s hand extend to retrieve it from his own, a worn out expression adorning his face, he had an epiphany. He realized that he wanted to be able to make Roy smile, a true smile, not one that was forced or a smirk. He wanted to be able to console the man if needed, and help carry the burden that Roy carried alone. He was in a state of awe as he left the room, not noticing his surroundings; Edward Elric was in love.

That night he’d starred at the ceiling of his bedroom, flesh and metal hands clasped behind his head and thoughts of his feelings keeping his mind restless. He thought about the situation for several hours, knowing that he’d be an idiot to try and deny it, and not wanting to be stuck in the stage of denial until the object of his affection fell in love with someone other than himself. He made sure to try and think everything through, possibilities of what could happen if he told Roy he was in love with him, and what could happen if the feelings were returned, or not. He thought of all the positives, and all the negatives of being in the relationship, along with whether he’d tell Alphonse or not.

These thoughts eventually put him to sleep, and when he woke the next morning, he felt as though several days had passed instead of only hours. He’d dressed and headed to the library, this being one of the few days he didn’t have a mission scheduled. He’d gathered several books that we’re focused on the subject of alchemy, their types varying, and set them on a small coffee table in front of the chair he now sat in, picking the top book off the stack and opening to the first page.

Instead of reading though, he was debating on whether or not to voice his affection for the Flame Alchemist aloud to him. Even at his age, though being in the military helped, he’d heard several tales of men or women that hadn’t told the one they loved of their feelings, and the other had fallen in love with someone else because they’d waited to long to tell them. He didn’t want to be one of those shier persons who waited until their love was married until they spoke up, and with a single thought of that possibility, he stood abruptly and set out towards Roy’s office.

He listened to his own footsteps as he walked as calmly as he could down the hallways of military headquarters, counting them to keep his mind from wandering to things that could go wrong with his plan. He slowed his walk as he neared the office, his heart pounding in his chest loud enough that passer byers could heat the fast, but steady beat of pumping blood, or so he thought. He heard his automail fist knock on the mahogany wood that stood before him before he knew it, having no memory of sending the nerves the message of knocking on the door. Before he could turn away he heard the muffled ‘Come in.’ from beyond the door, and steeled himself as his automail turned the knob to the office. He entered the room and shut the door behind him, trying not to look down as Roy looked up from his paperwork to address the person before him. He hadn’t been expecting Ed to come in, and covered his surprise quickly.

“Yes Fullmetal?” He asked, laying his pen that had been signing his name for several hours down on the desk in front of him. Ed forced his legs to move him to only a few steps from Roy’s desk, tugging on the end of his sleeves as a means of fidgeting. He opened his mouth to speak, but realized soon after that no words were coming out, and that they probably weren’t coming out anytime soon. He closed his eyes for a moment before walking those last few steps to Roy’s desk and leaning over to kiss the man on the lips, his hands braced on the edge of the desk to keep him from falling over out of nervousness.

His eyes closed as their lips touched, and he felt heat rise to his cheeks the longer he held his lips against Roy’s. Time seemed to speed back up from it’s stop as he leaned back from the sloppy kiss and stood there for a second, examining the shock still present on Roy’s face, before the full effect of what he’d done hit him like a train. Panic flew through his mind and he turned and bolted out the door, not seeing the look of disappointment on his love’s face at Ed’s leave.

----------

Ed ran out of the building, his bright red coat and golden braid whipping behind him as he headed for a nearby place, one that he visited infrequently, and one that he probably wouldn’t be looked for at. He slowed his pace to a walk as his boots stepped on the well-kept grass of the local park, choosing a spot underneath a well-aged oak tree to lay down. He spread his limbs out, relishing the feel of the breeze that danced by and played with his bangs. It calmed his senses that we’re previously on high alert.

His mind, of course, drifted back to the action he’d decided on instead of words, he didn’t regret it, not a bit. But there was the doubt of Roy actually returning his feelings that plagued his mind and caused him to heave a heavy sigh as he clasped his gloved hands behind his head and starred at the passing clouds above him. He frowned at the thought of the Colonel not returning his feelings, but then again, there were plenty of reasons for him not to, so it was to be expected. As thoughts much related to his current train of thought entered his mind, his eyelids closed and his breathing evened out, sending his mind to the realm of dreams and nightmares.

He felt his mind return to consciencousness, and was immediately aware of a presence next to him. His muscles tensed as the unexpected person shifted beside him, and he opened his eye to a slit, looking over to the figure. He recognized the dark haired man instantly and both eyes shot open as he starred in disbelief at him.

“Roy?” He asked incredulously, his tensed muscles finally relaxing. The man looked over to him and smiled, a true smile, his eyes bright and currently holding amusement in their depths.

“You’re pretty hard to find for someone so well-known.” Was his only reply, crossing his arms across his chest as his smile turned into a smirk. Ed’s shock turned to confusion, and his brow furrowed slightly.

“You were looking for me?” He asked as he propped himself up onto his forearms. Roy’s smirk turned back to a smile at Ed’s question.

“Of course, otherwise I couldn’t give you a proper response.” Roy uncrossed his arms and ran his thumb over Ed’s cheek before closing the distance between them. As he pulled away, Ed finally seemed to register the situation and a light pink tint appeared on his cheeks, causing Roy to chuckle. Ed let himself fall back to the grassy earth, sighing in a combination of relief, happiness, and exasperation.

“There’s one thing about first kisses that’s always true, there’s too many different emotions involved.” Ed stated, shaking his head and leaving Roy to gape over the fact that he’d, technically, been Ed’s first kiss.

Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo? Was it better? Worse? Heck I hope it's better..... Feel free to say if you liked it better than the other one! If I get enough people that like this ending better than the first, I'll make this one official!

Don't like the ending at all? Have a better idea that you'd like to see put into my (hopefully good) writing? Tell me and I'll write it, and see how it turns out! I ran out of ideas on this, and kind of got thrown off my idea train, so more ideas are always welcome! XDDD

For those of you that would randomly like to hear what happened to my nose, I'll tell you. You see, I own horses, but because of high school, I can't really help out with them. Well, because of the Winter break, i've been able to help out more, and last night (New Year's eve) I went out to help my mom feed the horses. Her horse (Bo) gets a little more feed than the rest of them, and I have to get it in a seperate scoop-thing. So I put his feed in the bowl, which is on the ground, and he bent down to start eating. Well, i still had to put the rest of his feed in there, and I couldn't reach his bowl without having to lean in the window of his stall a little. But as soon as I poured it in, he WHIPPED his head up, and hit my nose. Now, a horse's head weighs around the weight of an average adult human. So I got hit with around 120-140 pounds, and at a REALLY fast speed, so, i'm pretty sure it's broken. My nostrils are different sizes, but my nose is straight, so I'm thinking it may have only torn the cartilage in my nose, but you never know. My lip's also swollen up, and there's a bruise on it, so I think it bruised my top jaw bone or something. But luckily, when I first got hit, I only yelled because of the shock, it didn't hurt at all, more like I lost all feeling, I didn't even feel the blood running down my face. The only moment I started feeling it was when I got back inside and got over the shock. Yep, so that's the fun story. Hope those of you who read author's comments enjoyed my breaking-of-the-nose-in-some-way story! XDD
