Anywhere but Here

It was Dumbledore’s fault again, this asinine Christmas party. Severus had no desire to stand in a corner and watch his colleagues embarrass themselves with too much cheap wine and disgusting displays beneath the mistletoe.

Despite this loathing for such drunken frivolity, Severus found himself at the end of term, standing in a corner watching Hooch and Hagrid attempt to contort enough that their lips would meet beneath the staffroom doorway’s bundle of mistletoe.

Severus was jolted out of his reverie by a prod on his arm.

“Severus?” Professor Granger held out a glass of the eggnog she had made.
