Bella is different, there is no doubt about that fact. And, to tell the truth, she confuses me.

See, last year she fell in love with Edward. He’s the only one of us that’s still alone. I, Jasper Hale, have Alice. Emmett has Rosalie. Carlisle has Esme. Edward had no one… until recently. For a while I believed that Bella would be the death of our entire family. She only caused problems since she moved to Forks, Washington which is the town we live in.

First there was James, then Victoria and the newborn vampires, Renesmee, and most recently, the Volturi visiting Forks. I’ve grown to care for her more, though. She’s one of us now. Edward couldn’t let her go and live a normal human life in a normal world without vampires. He had to be with her. But the odd thing is, I could tell that the thing he wanted most was Bella’s blood. Whenever I was around him I felt the same need to hunt as he did. He didn’t really care though, he was in love. Desperately and oddly in love.

So was Bella. She didn’t want to stay away from him after that short episode of hating him so much that I thought she would leave Forks because of it. But she didn’t, which surprised me. For a while after that, I tried to stay away from Bella and Edward as much as possible. Their love for each other was so powerful that I couldn’t feel anything else around me.

Eventually, Bella had to become one of us. Alice saw it. It was just the matter of when and where. It turned out to be when Renesmee, Bella’s child was born. It’s been several months since then.

Now is the part that really confuses me. In my past, I’ve had much experience with newborn vampires. They only ever had one emotion, which was their thirst for human blood. Bella didn’t have that. She could safely interact with small numbers of humans and not even get the urge to hunt.

No newborn has ever been like her before. Even just short after she became one of us, she could sit right across from Charlie, her father, and not even care that he’s human. Any one of the Cullens, including me, would be able to do that even months after becoming a vampire.

It was like her life was headed in a completely different direction.
