Chapter 4: Sailor Earth

When Kayla O’Grady entered the Great Hall one morning, a few days after the school term had started, she found the whole school buzzing with conversation. It quickly became evident that it concerned the news in the Daily Prophet, about a super-powerful Dark wizard named Jadeite who had managed to put Harry and Ginny Potter at his mercy, somehow draining their energy without even needing a wand. To make matters worse, their spells had no effect on him, and yet they were saved by their daughter Lily, who wasn’t even old enough to attend Hogwarts yet. According to the reports, Lily had turned into an amazing warrior named Sailor Moon, and she had been able to vanquish the monster that the Dark wizard Jadeite had used to attack her parents, a creature that Lily identified as being a “youma.” Of equal interest was Rini, the mysterious pink-haired girl who seemed to be a cat animagus, since she was the one who apparently gave Lily the ability to turn into Sailor Moon. During the interview with Rini, she also explained that Lily was not the only person who was able to be a Sailor Senshi. There were at least a dozen others, if not more, and the rest were probably students at Hogwarts. For her part, Kayla hoped she would be chosen to be a “Sailor Senshi,” whatever that meant. It sounded exciting, exactly the sort of magical adventure she expected to have when she first found out she was a witch, not too long ago. She hoped that someone like her, whose parents were what wizards called “muggles,” would have a chance to obtain the power of a “Sailor Senshi.” She remembered what happened on the train, when a yellow light had hit her, and she grinned, hoping that was related to the Senshi somehow.

After most people were done eating breakfast, a sudden popping sound was heard. All eyes were on Samantha Rain, the headmistress, who was surrounded by pink and purple smoke as she entered the Great Hall. Rumor had it she had an important meeting that morning, and many people gasped and whispered excitedly when they noticed the little pink-haired girl following her, the same one whose picture was in the Daily Prophet.

“Attention, everyone,” she called out, taking her usual spot at the staff table, “I’m sure many of you have heard about the strange events that took place two days ago, concerning Harry Potter’s daughter Lily. Yes, it is true that she has become a ‘Sailor Senshi,’ as Rini here calls her. Rini also tells me that the other Sailor Senshi are here at Hogwarts, waiting to be awakened to their true powers.”

“That is correct, Professor Rain. Sailor Senshi, or Sailor Soldiers, in English, are magical warriors of love and justice. It is only with their powers that the Dark Kingdom can be defeated. The people of the Dark Kingdom, like Jadeite, who Sailor Moon fought, have powers like you wizards and witches, but it seems they are immune to normal magic. That is why the special powers of the Sailor Senshi are needed. I don’t know how long it will take to awaken all of you, but 15 of you students are going to be Sailor Senshi with Sailor Moon. I think most of you may be first years at this school, but others may be in other years. So I will be visiting your house common rooms for awhile, to observe you and see if any of you have the ability to become Sailor Senshi,” Rini explained. Kayla’s excited grin became even bigger when she heard that the Sailor Senshi were likely to be first-years like her. That would mean she would have an even bigger chance to join in on the new adventure!

“So you see, you can find Rini here if you have any questions. However, school will still go on, so do your best in your classes as always!” Samantha said cheerfully as she finished her announcement.

For the rest of the day, whenever she went to and from classes, Kayla looked for a sign of the little pink-haired girl, either as a cat or a human, however, Rini was nowhere to be seen. She did hear, however, that Rini was busy having meetings with the professors, explaining the “Sailor Senshi” to them. It wasn’t until that evening, when she went to the Gryffindor common room after supper, that she noticed Rini was sitting in one of the chairs.

“Are you here to give someone Sailor Senshi powers? Am I ever going to be one too?” Kayla asked eagerly, glad to see the mysterious little girl again.

“As a matter of fact, yes. You are the next Sailor Senshi, Sailor Earth,” Rini answered. Her hand glowed and an odd pen appeared in it. It was yellow with a gold cap, and on the top of the cap was a circle surrounded by an oval. Engraved in the middle of the cap was a symbol that Kayla remembered seeing in her astronomy textbook that represented the Earth.

“Sailor Earth? Does this mean I have ground powers? Can I make earthquakes and stuff?” Kayla wondered, holding her new magical pen.

“I’m not sure exactly. I know you are Sailor Earth, I’m sure you are, but something seems different about you than what I expected,” Rini answered, “Like I was more expecting a boy and that he would be named Prince Endymion or Tuxedo Mask, not Sailor Earth. But I still can tell you have the potential to use that wand.”

“Then we can find out right now! Earth Power, Make Up!” Kayla shouted, holding the yellow pen up in the air. Golden lights flew out of it and surrounded her body, replacing her Hogwarts robes with an outfit that was very similar in style to the one Sailor Moon wore. However, in Sailor Earth’s case, her collar and skirt were yellow, and so were her shoes, which had straps that crisscrossed up her ankles, making her look a bit like a ballerina. She also had two large, dark green bows on her outfit, one on her chest and the other on the back of her skirt.

“That was so cool! I hope you get to go on lots of fun adventures! Am I going to be a Sailor Senshi too, kitty girl?” a girl named Galaxy Baghill asked. She had entered the common room along with Severus Prince, just in time to see Kayla transform into Sailor Earth.

“I don’t think so, but you never know. I’m staying here for awhile to see if there are any other potential Sailor Senshi in Gryffindor Tower before I visit the other houses’ common rooms. So you might be one, but I don’t sense any Senshi ability in you right now,” Rini answered.

“Did those lights that hit my cousin and other people on the train have to do with the Sailor Senshi?” Severus suddenly asked.

“I think they might have, although I never was on the Hogwarts Express so I’m not exactly sure. Were you hit by lights too, Kayla?” Rini asked.

“Yes, I was, and so were Daisy Puff, Miyuki Aoyama and Tiffany White. They were in the same compartment as me, but I think they all went to different houses. Also, Albus Potter came in and said he was hit by a light too, so you could ask him. Didn’t he end up in Ravenclaw?” Sailor Earth remembered, “Whenever you visit Ravenclaw, you can ask him about it too.”

“Maybe I should ask if other people saw the lights on the...EEEEK!” Rini screamed as another youma flew into Gryffindor Tower, knocking her to the ground. This one looked like a lion with bright red fur, with glowing golden eyes. Rini quickly flicked her hand, which glowed again, and a yellow communicator watch appeared in it, similar to the one she had given to Lily.

“Can you hear me, Lily? There’s a monster here at Hogwarts, and we might need you to come here and fight it! I’m aware that you can’t normally apparate into Hogwarts, but you can do it as Sailor Moon. We’re in Gryffindor Tower!” Rini called into the wristwatch, jumping aside with a shriek as the lion monster roared and took a swipe at her with its paw.

“I need to try out my new powers! Mud Slap!” Sailor Earth shouted, and she spun around, throwing a big glob of mud at the lion monster’s face. Galaxy attempted to fight too, by trying to punch the lion monster, but it knocked her away with its paw and she crashed into a table. The monster shook its head around, roaring and trying to get the mud out of its eyes. Sailor Earth was about to try imitating Galaxy’s method of physically fighting the monster when she was distracted by a flash of white light. A very surprised-looking Sailor Moon appeared in the room, amazed that she was able to apparate into Hogwarts so easily. The lion monster ignored the new combatant, though, and it began to roar loudly. As it did, it glowed and energy began to drain from both Galaxy and Severus’s bodies. Sailor Moon stared at them in horror, and then she looked at Rini, seeming to remember something.

“Moon Tiara Action!” she called, and once again, she turned a youma to dust.

“Are you Lily? Is that what Rini called you? Thank you for helping, my powers didn’t seem to work very well,” Sailor Earth sighed, disappointed that she wasn’t as powerful as she expected to be.

“Yes, I’m Lily Potter,” Sailor Moon answered shyly. Sailor Earth shed her transformation, her clothes reverting back to her school robes.

“I’m Kayla O’Grady, and I’m glad to meet you! Is Albus Potter your brother? I met him on the train, and he seemed pretty nice,” Kayla wondered. Sailor Moon nodded in the affirmative and then she looked at Rini nervously, unsure if she should stay for awhile and get to know Kayla or go back home.

“You can stay if you want, Lily, I’m sure your parents would understand. They saw you get your powers, remember? By the way, you can use that communicator watch I gave you to talk to Kayla if you need to. Just press the button to circle through the symbols that come up, hers is the yellow cross in a circle shape. More symbols will automatically appear in your communicators as more Sailor Senshi are awakened, and mine is the pink moon shape. Kayla, this one is yours,” Rini said, handing Kayla the yellow device she had used to contact Lily earlier. “Lily’s symbol is also a moon shape, of course, but hers is silver.” Kayla tested out the buttons on the communicator watch, and was easily able to find each of the three symbols Rini had mentioned.

“Do you know when you can find the next Senshi? Do you know if I’m going to be one yet?” Galaxy interrupted.

“No, it takes time. I don’t sense anything about you right now, but you might show signs of being a Sailor Senshi in the future. As I said, I’m going to stay here in Gryffindor Tower for awhile, so you might become one eventually,” Rini answered.
