Hermione glanced at her watch. It was only an hour before the New Year began. She was lying on her bed because of a headache she had that afternoon and still hadn’t gone away.

She sat up a little too fast as she became dizzy and had to lie down again for a few minutes, but she finally managed to walk down to the Gryffindor common room.

I can’t get sick now, she thought, Harry and Ron won’t want me to miss the fireworks.

Harry was sitting by the fire waiting for her. When she came down the stairs Harry stood up and walked over to her.

“I told Ron to go on ahead and get good seats.” said Harry.

The fireworks would be held at the quidich pitch and everyone in the school that wanted to could go down there to see the wonderful display.

“Ok.” Hermione croaked, shocked at how her voice sounded.

“Are you ok?” asked harry, looking shocked. “You don’t look very well.”

“I’m fine.” Hermione insisted. “Come on harry, let’s go and find Ron.”

Harry and Hermione walked down to the entrance hall. To Harry’s surprise Hermione was walking much lower than usual and he had to keep stopping for her to catch up.

“Hermione,” Said harry stopping for the sixth time. “If you don’t feel very well you can always tell me.”

“I told you harry,” she said. “I’m not ill.”

“I think we should see Professor McGonagall.” said Harry.

“But I don’t want you to miss the fireworks.” Hermione said sadly. “I know how much you enjoy them.”

Harry sighed. “How long have you been feeling ill?” they began walking again.

“Since… since…” Hermione gasped. “Harry! Watch out! There’s a centaur!”

Harry put his hand on her shoulder. “Don’t worry Hermione, you must be delirious. There aren’t any centaurs here.”

Hermione looked upset. “I can’t get sick now. We have lessons in a few days.”

Harry supported Hermione and they walked out into the grounds to find professor McGonagall.

It was extremely cold outside and the wind was starting to pick up. Harry and Hermione wrapped their cloaks tighter around each other to try and keep warm. Unfortunately Hermione began shivering and so harry took of his clock and wrapped it around Hermione who was very grateful.

She was waiting outside the Quiditch pitch making sure that there weren’t any students sneaking around the grounds.

Harry and Hermione walked over towards her. As soon as she saw them she started going over to them.

“Miss Granger, Mr Potter, What’s wrong?” she asked anxiously.

“Hermione’s ill.” Explained harry. “But she didn’t want Ron or I to miss the fireworks.”

Professor McGonagall tutted and turned to Hermione. “Next time tell us when you’re ill, you might worsen your condition more waiting for us all to notice!”

Hermione looked at her sadly with glassy eyes.

Professor McGonagall took pity and didn’t scold her anymore. She conjured up a stretcher so Hermione wouldn’t have to walk anymore and the three of them went to the hospital wing.

Madame Pomfrey gave Hermione a number of potions and checked her temperature. Hermione was asleep in a few minutes.

Harry stayed with Hermione who was really ill. But Hermione was woken up by the sounds of the fireworks, so Harry sat next to her on the bed while the watched them out of the window together. By the time they had finished Hermione had fallen asleep on Harry’s shoulder.
