This one the second challenge of round one of naruto_ldws (last drabble writer standing) on lj. Poor Kakashi :(

Kakashi thinks that if he weren’t so involved in watching everything fall apart again, he’d almost be sick of the situation.

It’s tragedy on repeat, watching the same combination of children come together and tear each other apart, again and again. By this stage, it’s less of a stretch to draw the parallels and more of an assumption. Apathetic ass. Hyperactive idiot. The Girl (because for some reason it never matters what kind of person she is, the former two will always drag the team down).

There’s a tiny part of Kakashi that finds it funny, and sometimes he smiles so hard he can’t see them anymore.

They’ve survived death, desertion and despair, and somehow two of them came out the other side children. Ironically, Kakashi took a special interest in the third, which goes to show how right he was in thinking that the broken shouldn’t teach the broken.

He watches the two left behind and half hopes they won’t stop believing. It’s a stupid wish – in this world, believers are children, and children die.

Kakashi’s own story fades into history and he thinks that maybe he could step in and put a stop to these repetitions. Trying to shove this team into that neat little package of misery will only bring his failures to light even more, and Kakashi’s not so masochistic that he wants to create new tragedies for himself.
