RECAP

Sighing angrily and understanding that she wouldn't listen to him about his name, Sasuke resigned himself for the humiliation, because something in him stopped him from outright killing the girl who he knew was going to be a major thorn in his side.

RECAP

Kagome's large blue eyes flicked around in awe at the towering trees and flourishing greenery around her. “Wow...” She breathed and giggled happily when a bird flew overhead and trilled a pretty tune. “That sounds gorgeous...” The raven pressed her tiny hands against her mouth before twisting around to stare at the bored-looking Uchiha. “The outside world is so pretty! Why wasn't I ever allowed out here?”

Sasuke arched a thin black brow. “You've been awake before?”

Kagome nodded her head and plopped down beside him in a very unladylike manor. “Yup. I've lost count of how many times that creepy tongue-guy has woke me up and poked and prodded and tried to get my energy out of me. But I wouldn't let him.” She crossed her arms over her chest, the over-sized sleeves covering her exposed legs.

“You wouldn't let him?” The Uchiha survivor was curious now. “Why?”

“Cause he felt horrible! His aura was all dark and dangerous and tainted and... and... just plain bad. And I won't take orders from bad people. It goes against my code.”

Sasuke snorted. “You have a code?”

“Of course. I'm a priestess, I have to have a code. It's been embedded in the combined DNA I have inside of me.” She pressed her finger against her tummy before intertwining her toes together and reaching forward to grab at her feet.

“What code would that be? And you know how you were made?”

“Well the only things to read when my caretaker's weren't poking and prodding me with these weird stick things, were my notes that Orochimaru made about me. My progress and my achievements and other stuff. OH! And those priestess legends. I liked those a lot.” Nodding her head Kagome knocked her feet together and stared at her wiggling toes.

“And your code?” Sasuke grabbed her hands and pulled them from her feet with an annoyed glare.

The miko smiled sheepishly before bringing her legs up to her chest and wrapping her arms around her knees, fingers finding her toes and the billowy sleeves covering her hands and feet. “My code of honor. 'I can't kill a human or a demon without good reason. I can't harm an honest human or a pure-hearted demon. I can't inflict any kind of damage or pain on an innocent life, demon or human. I can heal and bless those who need it. I can exorcise vile demons that are not where they should be. I will protect the weak and defend the sickly. I will calm the elements and keep the peace. I will follow the gods will until my usage is done then become one with the earth and give my powers to ensure she lives just a little bit longer'.”

The Uchiha narrowed his eyes at her. “You won't kill anyone, then?”

Kagome shook her head. “Not unless they did something that deserves death, like take another life.” She shrugged her shoulders and jumped up with a grin. “And I don't follow around bad people. So if I am with you that means your still a good person.” Giggling like a child, Kagome bounced over to a tree and pressed her palms against it. “I'm hungry.”

Sasuke stood up and grabbed his heavy pack. “Then let's go... find...” He trailed off and watched as a body slipped from the bark and landed on the ground softly.

oh my... i haven't seen one of your kind in a while, priestess-sama. you desire food, yes?” The tiny creature, no bigger than Kagome herself, raised it's bark-colored hand and let a shiny red apple form in it's palm. “here you go. please enjoy to the fullest, priestess-sama.” The wood nymph crawled back into her hiding spot an fell asleep once again.

Kagome skipped merrily over to Sasuke and bit into the apple. “Want some? It's really good.” She held it out for him to taste and the male wrinkled his nose in distaste.

“No, I am fine.” He slipped his pack onto his back and stalked forward, still awed by the flair of chakra that had slapped the crap out of his face. It was so pure... so untainted... so... so powerful he had to keep her.

Looking out of the corner of his eye, Sasuke let a devilish grin spread across his face. With her by my side, I can take down Itachi and avenge my clan in no time. He curled his fingers around his blade and looked up through the branches to the clear blue sky above.

A thought slithered in through his filter and settled into the forefront of his mind. I wonder how Naruto is doing... Sasuke mentally shook himself and snorted in aggravation.

What did he care? The blonde was probably off doing something stupid, like trying to save a meaningless life or... Trying to find me...

Sasuke gave a mental snarl and kicked the though in it's proverbial face. Leave my thoughts, you annoying insect! He cried internally at the blonde's snickering image that stuck itself tightly to his brain.

A calming wave washed over him and the Uchiha spied a tiny hand on his forearm. “You felt troubled, Sasuke-kun.” Kagome murmured, voice uncharacteristically soft. “What is bothering you?” Her look was so earnest, so... so... Naruto-ish, Sasuke couldn't help himself.

“I'm thinking of one of my friends that I left behind.” He told her in a clipped tone.

Kagome nodded her head in understanding and fisted her tiny hand in the white sleeve of his robe. “Well then, why don't you tell me about this friend? I want to know everything about Sasu-chan!” She giggled and curled herself around his arm, brilliant sapphire eyes staring up at him intently.

Sasuke glared at her and tried to pull his arm out of her suddenly deathly tight grasp. Her head jerked around and she released him. “What?” He asked her and grabbed at his sword. The male moved around, body on high alert.

“Someone bad is coming.” She pointed in a direction and Sasuke stretched his chakra out to see who it could be.

“I can't sense anyone.” He told her and relaxed. False alarm. The raven thought and moved forward.

Kagome gripped the back of his shirt and pulled him towards her. “No, don't move. They'll pass us in a few minutes.” Her chakra spiked for a millisecond and Sasuke's eyes widened.

A glittering pink dome encased them completely before it slowly started to shrink and press in around them. “Don't move.” Kagome whispered again. Her steel gray eyes stared out, unfocused, in the direction she had pointed.

After a minute of quiet, Sasuke stepped forward to get out of the barrier when an unknown chakra signature flickered onto his radar. He froze and felt the energy race towards them at speeds only well-trained ninja could achieve.

The intruder landed in front of them silently. He looked around in confusion. “I could have sworn I felt something right here...” He murmured before making the signs for a kai release. He scowled deeper when nothing revealed itself before he shrugged and continued on, past their position.

Once the males chakra completely disappeared from Sasuke's radar did Kagome let the shield fall and twirled around to smile at him. “You didn't move!” She giggled and tackled him, snuggling into the opening in his top. “I'm so proud of you.” Kagome smiled up at the wide-eyed male.

Surprised black eyes followed the girls movements as she released him and skip ahead of him. “How did you do that? You didn't even make hand signs.”

“Hand signs?” Kagome blinked back at him, curious sapphire orbs staring into his own dark depths. “What are, 'hand signs'?”

The raven watched as Kagome raised her finger and nibbled on the nail, still a bit flabbergasted at the display of control she had on her chakra. “You don't know what hand signs are? They're the basis for chakra manipulation. We use hand signs to channel our chakra and make it do what we want it to do.”

“Oh!” Kagome nodded her head and bounced over to him. “Well, I don't gotta do that cause I'm not like you, silly!” She poked his nose before twirling away again. “Mai-chan(1) tried to teach me how to do those hand thingies but they were dumb and didn't work with me. So I gave up and did it my way. Mine was funner too!”

Kagome struck a battle stance, one arm extended out in front of her, the other behind it, as if she were grabbing at a bow string. Her legs were spread apart to keep her balance.

Sasuke watched, in slight awe, as she gathered her chakra and formed a glowing pink bow. She moved her arm back and Sasuke saw a shining arrow form. “This is my hama no ya. Isn't it cool?” She pointed it to the sky and fired.

The arrow shot forth and left a glittering trail of energy behind that would have awed any crowd but just made Sasuke more glad he had taken her along with him.

He needed powerful allies and this was all he needed. Forget about those others that I was going to start a group with. Kagome is all the group I will ever need. Sasuke stepped forward and clapped, just to humor her. “What other weapons can you make out of chakra?”

Kagome pouted and tapped her finger on her bottom lip. “Well, I haven't actually practiced with weapon making. It's just been healing and ward and oofuda making for the last few times I was awake.” Shrugging her narrow shoulders, the miko bounced up to Sasuke and grabbed his hand. “Do you have any wounds that I don't know about? Like a bruise or sore muscles? Cause I can get fix them better than Kabuto-kun ever could! I can to major wounds too.”

Sasuke pulled down his haori and rubbed his shoulder after setting his pack on the ground. “I'm a little sore right here.” He said.

Kagome's hands glowed a healing blue and when they touched his skin, he groaned softly. It was like he had crawled into a fire and fell asleep, only the fire was a fluffy blanket that didn't burn him and was wrapped him like a comforting cocoon of warmth.

“Oh, you have a lot of knots! You need to lie down. Quick, quick!” Kagome pushed Sasuke forward and he stumbled a bit before doing as he was told.

He laid down flat on the ground, cheek pressed against the soft grass. The priestess's gentle hands caressed his flesh lovingly as the warm energy bubbled and curled over his skin.

A good twenty minutes passed before Sasuke regained himself and sat up. “Stop that.” He told her before pulling his clothing back in proper place and standing up, grabbing the black backpack off of the ground. “Let's head out.” He told her and marched deeper into the forest that he knew like the back of his hand.

- - -

Kagome pasted shielding wards around the tiny campsite before heading over to the crackling fire and seating herself. “I hope he hurries back...” She whispered to herself and wrapped her arms around her knees tightly.

The two had covered a lot of ground, surprisingly. Kagome was still ready to go when Sasuke announced they were camping here and for her to set up camp while he hunted for fresh meat.

So, Kagome started a fire like she was taught, set up the cooking pot for the return of her new master and searched the area for a bathing spot since she could still feel the nasty goop on her person.

The priestess was worried that if she told Sasuke the truth about her (since he obviously didn't read her file that was left for him to browse through) he would use her powers for bad. She could feel it in his aura that he wasn't the nicest person around but he was defiantly much better than that snake guy and Kabuto-kun, though he was still a lot nicer then Sasuke. At least she got to hug Kabuto-kun. Sasuke didn't seem to appreciate the 'love' she was giving him.

“Annoying jerk...” She whispered and threw a twig into the fire.

It wasn't like she wanted to be a weapon of mass destruction... No, if she had it her way, Kagome would be out on her own as a traveling miko instead of hanging off of some angry little noodle-head. But she was made to follow orders, not give them, and Sasuke was, as of right now, her master because Orochimaru was dead (from the way his spirit was roaming the halls the way it was back at the compound) and Kabuto-kun was no where to be found. His aura wasn't in the hideout or in the surrounding forest.

It's like he just up and vanished... Kagome thought and dug a tiny hole in the ground with her big toe.

She flopped onto her back and curled her fingers in the grass under her hand. “I bet you wish you could walk away from here, don't you? Find new places and play with different grasses...” She rolled onto her belly and twirled her finger around the tiny green blades. “Me too. But maybe I'll finally get to see new lands with this Sasuke-guy.” Kagome rested her head on her folded arm and continued to play with the greenery absently.

Sasuke's aura came closer to the camp and she bit her lip. “Maybe I should just hid myself and run away...” But at the mention of even doing something against her masters wishes, Kagome withheld a pained yelp. Orochimaru had set her internal systems to shut down if she disobeyed. And running away was defiantly disobeying orders. I'm just curious to why it just now took affect... How could I say and do whatever I wanted back then, but I can't now? Shaking her head with a heavy sigh, Kagome closed her eyes momentarily.

She rolled onto her back before standing to her full height (which wasn't that tall) and made her way over to a talisman. “Time to let Sasu-chan back in.” She mumbled to herself.

Her protective shield dropped and Sasuke flashed into the middle of the camp. “Why did you block yourself from me, Kagome?” He narrowed his red eyes at her and the priestess gave a giddy little giggle.

“Oh, well, I just wanted to play a game! And you lost!” She giggled before moving over to the freshly skinned rabbits. “I'll take those!” She dropped them into the water-filled pot after taking the meat from the bones. “Did you bring back any veggies?” Kagome questioned him and squealed when he handed her a few different vegetables. “Yay! Thank you!” She grabbed up the rest of the food and started to cut it into pieces.

After eating their fill and making their beds, Kagome announced she would be taking the first lookout. “So just go to sleep and I'll make sure no boogie-man's come for you.” She winked playfully at him before raising her hands to warm her palms by the flickering fire.

Sasuke narrowed his eyes at her suspiciously. “No, I'll take the first watch.”

Kagome scowled. “You weren't the one who just woke up from a 5-year sleep, mas-mister! I have energy to burn, so let me stay up and keep you safe, alright?” She had to fight the urge to say master, but succeeded and did a little mental victory dance.

The raven-headed male stared at her for a few seconds before nodding slowly. “Don't do anything dumb. And don't leave the campsite for any reason.” He instructed, and blinked in surprise when Kagome's jaw clenched and the muscles there jumped.

“Yes, sir.” She said in a clipped tone.

Nodding his head, Sasuke crawled under his covers and settled in for a light sleep.

- - -

Kagome twirled in front of him, happily humming a tune he didn't know. “Will you settle down?” He questioned, black eyes flashing red in annoyance.

The priestess stuck her tongue out at him but bounced over to his side and cuddled up to him. “So, where are we going?” She asked, curiosity coloring her voice.

“To another hideout. I need to pick up some things.” He said quietly, his tone sharp.

“Oh.” Kagome turned to look out into the woods, as if searching for something. “Mind if we stop off somewhere? I feel a really interesting aura and I want to check it out.”

Sasuke wrinkled his nose. “An interesting aura?” He asked incredulously. “No, we need to keep going.”

Huffing in anger, Kagome stormed away from him, arms crossed over her chest. “Yeah, thanks a lot! I wanted to make a contract, but I guess master won't let me.” She glared at him from over her shoulder and blinked in surprise when Sasuke's black eyes flashed red. “Sasu-chan?”

“Contracts?” He stopped and tapped his foot expectantly.

The miko sighed softly and walked over to a log. “Come, sit and I'll tell you about a priestess contract.”

The male seated himself beside the distracted female, watching her with deep-set interest. “You know about ninja contracts, right? Like summons?” Sasuke nodded. “Well, a priestess contract is similar, but on a much deeper level. Like, say, if I made a contract with the spirit of this forest, she would be able to feed off of my energy and I would use her in battle, or something of that sort.”

The raven frowned. “Well, what did you feel? Who do you want to make a contract with?”

Kagome rested her chin on her fisted hand. “That's what I wanted to figure out. I've never felt anything like this... and I'm wondering if it's a demon.” She tapped her chin with her forefinger. “A priestess-demon contract is one of the hardest to get and even harder to maintain. See-” She sat up fully and waved her arms around dramatically. “-demon aura's are like huge flames, while priestess aura's are like gently flowing river. Always clashing, never meshing.”

Sasuke nodded again. “So, what if you were able to make a contract with a demon, what would happen?”

“Theoretically, we would become stronger, the demon and I, because we accepted the other into our ki. It would be like we were mates without the actual mating part... But for some demons that's exactly what a mate is. Someone you can smash your ki with and become stronger.” She shrugged. “That's why I've always liked canines.”

The Uchiha arched a fine brow curiously. “Your a dog person?”

Nodding her head, Kagome rested her elbows on her knees. “Well, inu youkai mate by physical marking. A bit on the neck to show everyone and a bit on the thigh for a male or on the breast for a female.” She grew silent for a moment. “And this aura is distinctly canine, so I want to check it out.”

Sasuke stood up and looked at her expectantly. “Where is the aura?” It was hard to hide his excitement. If she could make the contract with that demon (if it was one) then he would be unstoppable.

Kagome pointed off to the right and the raven headed that way. “How many contracts are you able to make?” He was curious (for good reason).

The priestess pondered, her fingers drumming on her chin in thought. “Well, I guess if I make only demonic contracts then probably as many as I can handle. Orochimaru did pull some of my DNA off of the Great Midoriko Statue in the Moon Country.” Shrugging her shoulders, Kagome skipped ahead of the smirking raven.

Oh yes, she is defiantly a keeper. He thought and followed after the bouncing weapon.

HBWD's Corner: How are you guys doing? I'm doing wonderful! And this chapter came out deliciously crappy! Hehe! Sry about the ugly-ness, but we have to deal with crap b/4 the good shit comes around! So, don't linger to long on this crappy chapter and just wait for the third one where we'll get to meet someone very special! :D

Oh, and a lot of you asked if Kagome was ever going to get her memories back. I thought I had made it clear that the InuYasha universe never existed. There is no 'Naraku is the evil hanyou bent on taking over Feudal Japan'. This is all in the Naruto-verse. Sry for any confusion!

(1) – You'll learn about Kagome's different teachers later in the story (probably the next chapter, but I can't promise that! LOL!)

Translations: Miko – priestess. Chakra – energy. Hama no ya – purifying arrow. Oofuda – talisman. Inu – dog. Youkai – demon.
