Shawn had to walk down the beach with Gus starring at him the whole way. Shawn was doing everything he could to avoid Gus’s gaze.
“How are you going to tell your dad you are 3 months pregnant.” Gus was doing everything he could to get Shawn to stare at him. “How are you going to tell him you had a one night’s stand with a really psychic and now you are really having a baby?. Answer me.”
Shawn stopped walking and finally met Gus’s eyes. “Look dude I have no idea how I am going to tell my dad I am having a baby, but I have to. I am 3 months and my pants aren’t fitting anymore. He is going to eventually figure it out.” Shawn started walking again.
“Look Shawn I have always been afraid of your dad for obvious reasons, but when we get to his house in a few minutes I am not going in with you. I am mad at you enough for complicating things by getting pregnant. I am not going to get killed by your dad while you tell him. Shawn we are going to be there in 5 minutes. Are you listening to me? Gus ran behind Shawn as Shawn walked faster. Gus was angry, but he loved Shawn more than anything even when Shawn made his normal dumb mistakes. Gus knew that Shawn had to tell his dad, but he wasn’t planning on being there when Shawn did it.
When Shawn finally reached the fence in front of his dad’s house Shawn stopped. Shawn heard Gus panting behind him trying to keep him. “Okay lets just turn around and go home.” Shawn started turning around, but he saw the frustrated expression on Gus’s face.
“Wait now we are finally here and you want to turn around and go home. No Shawn we are not going home. Besides I think it is good that you talk to your dad. You have no health insurance and we need his help trying to pay for your doctor’s visits. You have yet to see a doctor. No Shawn you are going to march up there and talk to him.” Gus put his hand on Shawn’s shoulder to stop him from turning around.
Shawn shoved off Gus’s hand. “I am not asking him for money for doctor’s visits. I am not going to a regular doctor. I am going to do all this with a midwife. My baby is going to be born in the Psych office where it should be born.” Shawn started walking down the sidewalk again.
Gus followed madder than ever. “What did you just say? Your baby is going to be born in a hospital not in our office. I will not allowed this baby to be born in our office. No blood is going to touch our office floor.” Gus didn’t tell Shawn this but he also was scared for Shawn’s safety. Home births were very dangerous and he didn’t want anything happening to Shawn. Being in the pharmaceutical industry he knew the hospital was the safest place. “Look you can have this baby naturally in a hospital like everyone else in the world.”
At this point Shawn and Gus were pretty far from Henry’s house and almost back to the car. “No Gus I have already arranged for a midwife who will come to me and deliver this baby anywhere I want to have it.” Shawn knew by Gus’s reaction that he was scared to death about the birth of this baby and that is why he wanted him in a hospital. Shawn hated hospitals, especially since the last time he was in one was when he was thrown off his bike.
“What about pain Shawn? You are the biggest baby in the world when it comes to pain.” Gus saw his blue car in the distance. “Sure when you are screaming and crying as this baby comes out you will be wishing for drugs in a hospital and if you think I will be there watching you have another thing coming. Also when your dad finds out and finds out that you are delivering outside of a hospital he will kill you.”
“I don’t care if anyone is there I am not delivering in a hospital. Also my dad is not going to be allowed anywhere near me when I am giving birth.” Shawn stopped and looked at Gus. He laughed as they both approached the car. “Look dude birth is still 7 months away. I am fine, I haven’t even been sick one day during the first trimester. We have a case we need to get back to, so let’s get off all this baby stuff.”
As they both got in the car Gus was fuming. “It was your idea to talk to your dad Shawn. Why did you drag me out here? Still, when are you going to talk to your dad? We need money to pay for this so called midwife.” Gus got into the car followed by Shawn and turned on the car.
“Well I guess we better save some money from these cases we are solving because I am not asking my dad.” Shawn slammed the car door behind him.
