The Magician’s Secret

A story about the secrets that lie right in front of us everyday…..

a/n: the secret involves ALL magicians.

Ever notice how you like, NEVER see a magic show except at night? Or in a really, really dark area, where no outside light gets in, so you’re in complete and utter darkness? Haha! Well my friends, I, Bii-chan, have found out what that secret is……

Wouldn’t you like to know? Well, too bad! You’ll just have to read the story to truly know.

“Wow! I can’t believe it!” Her smile beamed so bright it could light up the city by itself. He enjoyed that very much. Her smile brought a bigger one to his face knowing that what he did pleased her more than anyone could ever truly know.

“Why is it so amazing,” he asked softly, running his slim fingers through her soft black hair. He tilted his head with a curious look in his deep chocolate eyes. He couldn’t stop staring at her…she had an entrancing pull that devoured any previous concentration he may have had.

“Because I’ve always wanted to come to Vegas! You know that!” She giggled lightly, knitting her brows with slight confusion.

“Just wanted to be sure,” he shrugged, raising his eyebrows and walked onto the balcony.

She followed close behind him, hugging him around the waist from behind. He stiffened at the motion, but relaxed almost as quickly. He then wrapped his arms around her in response, “Beautiful. Isn’t it?”

She sighed out loud and snuggled her face into his chest, “Mmm…yes, it’s unbelievable.”

The lights of Las Vegas were magnificent from the balcony of the hotel. Though it wasn’t the one she’d wanted to stay in, it was just as welcoming. He looked at her with comforting chocolate eyes full of sincerity.

Cupping her porcelain cheeks in his hands, he leaned in slowly towards her face, parting his lips. She inhaled sharply, eyes wide with shock. Her porcelain cheeks flushed a furious red, causing her breathing to stutter as her heart fluttered, unsure of what to do. He leaned in closer, this time he didn’t give her time to think before his lips crashed against hers. He moaned so quietly it almost seemed like it hadn’t happened. He continued kissing her soft, warm lips, and she reciprocated, opening her mouth, only just enough to let a small sigh escape her overheated body. Once she’d reacted the way he wanted, with an intoxicated breath, he leaned his face into the crook of her neck, kissing from her shoulder to her ear. And then, once her knees thought they were going to give in, he bit down on her neck and her eyes –

“NOOOO!” Screaming, he shot up from his pillow, covered in a cold sweat. He breathed in heavily, and curled his legs up to support his elbows in which he buried his face. “Not again…..” He growled angrily at himself, but not loud enough to wake her.

Slowly and quietly he got up and walked to the bathroom. He turned on the water, and rinsed his pallor face hoping for some minuscule relief. However, it…never quite managed to sink through his frustration.

He stared at himself in the mirror, wishing that the mirror him was the monster. Not the physical him. But…he knew the truth. It had been haunting him ever since he could remember. And it had all started when he was five years old. He couldn’t bear to see the girl in the other room, sleeping with her head phones in, dreaming of the one thing she could never find out about…….he just couldn’t bear to see her get hurt and he kicked himself for even caring. He had told himself that he wouldn’t care anymore. That she wouldn’t matter, because if she mattered and he cared that would just sign the death contract and there was no way in hell he would put her through it. So, he’d never tell her. Yeah, that’s it. He’d never tell her. Then he wouldn’t have to deal with the guilt or the pain. Or the anger he would receive from her family if she got hurt.

So that was it? He would just stop caring about the girl that cared about him so much? COULD he just give up the love she showed him? He hadn’t really ever told her how he’d felt about her. He did things for her, and with her that showed he cared. But it was never really in the same manner as the caring she constantly radiated out towards him. She’d been his friend for these last two years, always putting him before herself. Sending him a constant stream of emails, instant messages, written letters, and when she had the courage to, she’d leave him voice mails that always made him smile, because she made a fool of herself. All to show she loved him. To show him always that she would forever care about him and that no matter what, he would always be on her mind.

Would he truly be able to throw all of that away? Crumple it up and huck it out of a window, and never think about it again? No. That pain would rip him apart from the inside, like a snake devouring an egg, and digesting it slowly, only to find out it was a rock that would not be able to be digested. He could never go through that and expect the pain and regret to let him live……..at least, not happily.

Once again he looked at his pale and desolate reflection, wishing deep down that his life was different, but keeping her in it always.

“Dammit! Why I am a monster. . .” he quietly asked himself. He didn’t really want an answer. But, much to his dismay, he got one anyways.

“Hee hee hee! Why yes! Yes indeed you are!” A shrill voice squealed with evil delight. “You are the very essence of eeeeeviiil!!”
The voice giggled annoyingly, and taunted him. “Hungry hungry hungry! Ee hee hee!!”

“God, SHUT UP!” He punched the mirror where the voice came from. He knew he’d only punched the reflection, but he also wished the reflection would feel it. It didn’t though.

“You’re hungry, Face it, accept it. Or you can just starve to death. Either way this is quite amusing!” He turned around to face the obnoxious figure with the annoying, shrill voice.

“Shut. UP!” He yelled, charging the figure. She was just like a shadow- visible, but not physical.

“Keep up these terrible secrets and she’ll leave before you can say, vampire.” Her voice echoed in the empty bathroom; the sound bouncing off the walls and floating around him in a taunting dance. He snarled angrily at the figure, and realized what she said was true.

“Go. Away. Before I REALLY have to hurt you,” he growled, bearing his teeth.

“Ooooh!” She leaned in and whispered deviously, “Scary.”

“Reza?” His breath stopped. He slowly turned around to find her standing in the bathroom doorway, rubbing her eyes.
And the figure was gone.

“Bii…” he walked over to her sweeping her into a comforting embrace. “Please….don ‘t ever leave me….”

“L-leave you…? Why would you think I would leave you?” Bii snuggled into his chest, squeezing him tight to keep him close. “Kitty… I’m not going to leave you! Ha ha ha! You’re my boss and my bestie! I love you! I’m not going to abandon you. You know I don’t do that…right?” She looked up at Reza with wide golden eyes, full of the compassion he obsessed over. The feeling she gave him was unexplainable. “I’d never abandon you. I’ll always be here for you…”

“So, you’re not gonna just get up and walk away, totally ditching me?”

Bii shook her head furiously, like an anime character. “Nope!”

Reza smiled and kissed the top of her head. “I’m glad.” His smile faded slightly. She looked at him with soft eyes and shined a comforting smile that seemed to light up the room more than the lights on Fremont Street and the Luxor combined.

“What brought this up?” Bii’s voice sounded concerned, and he hated it when she was concerned.

“I just….” He paused, unsure of what to tell her. “I just had a really freaky nightmare. That’s all…”

“Oh.” Bii whispered something to herself that he couldn’t quite make out. “Well….are you feeling better now?”

“Yes, thank you.”

“Good. I’m glad. Now, I vote we go to sleep. It’s three a.m.” As Bii said this, she began to hum the Mindless Self Indulgence song, “[It’s 3 a.m.] issues” and Reza giggled slightly to himself. He enjoyed the fact that Bii was random and just fine with being weird. She expressed it every day all the time. Bii held out her hand for Reza to take, and so he did. They walked silently back to the bed.

“I’m sorry…” Reza paused just before they reached the bedside table.

“For what?”

“Um….Because I could only get one room………and we got the wedding suite.” Even in the darkness, Bii could tell his face was bright red. She giggled in a cute, but curious tone that caused Reza to tilt his head to the left, almost like a kitten.

“It’s totally cool.” She just hopped onto the fluffy bed, patting the spot next to her. He apprehensively crawled under the blankets beside his nerdy best friend.

“Thanks Bii.”

“No problem. You know I’m always here for you.” Bii kissed Reza’s forehead and cuddled up under the thick seven layers of blankets next to the one she called kitty, and they both fell asleep.
