Christmas Miracle – Chapter 4
December 24, 1991
Robin wrapped her arms tightly around the waist of her new husband. She and Matt had only been married three weeks. She squeezed Matt tighter from her position behind him on the snow mobile and let her mind wander to the dinner waiting for them with Matt's dad, Jesse, and his brother, Cody, at Jesse's remote mountain cabin.
Jesse was a great cook. He had promised to let Robin help him with some of the Hawkes' family recipes, and she couldn't wait. She was so glad to finally officially be part of the Hawkes family. Her own family was not very close, and she had always envied the closeness between Matt, Cody, and Jesse.
The newlyweds arrived at Jesse's cabin a short while later. Jesse met them at the door and slapped his son heartily on the back. Then he pulled Robin into a tight hug, and Robin hugged him back just as tightly.
As promised, Jesse allowed Robin to help him with the cooking. Matt was convinced that with his dad watching over her, Robin couldn't hurt the food too badly. Cody, on the other hand, wasn't so sure and tasted his food carefully. After the dinner dishes were done and the Christmas story read Jesse and Cody headed upstairs to bed. Matt and Robin had decided to spend the night, but weren't quite ready to turn in just yet. Instead, they snuggled together in front of the fireplace on Jesse's old sofa.
Matt placed a kiss on Robin's forehead. "Merry Christmas, Mrs. Hawkes. You were worth the wait."
Robin laughed softly. "So were you, Mr. Hawkes; so were you."

Robin smiled playfully up at Matt from her position next to him on the couch at their apartment. "I can't wait to tell them."
Matt grinned at her and smoothed her hair back from her face. "Me, too. I can't wait to see the look on Dad's and Cody's faces."
Robin forced herself to get up. She planted a quick kiss on her husband's lips and headed for the kitchen. "If dinner's going to be ready when they get here, we'd better get moving." Matt groaned and then followed her into the kitchen, still not willing to let her be on her own in there.
A few hours later after dinner had been served and devoured they were all rather miserable. "I couldn't eat another bite right now if I tried," Cody moaned as he rubbed his stomach.
"Then why don't we open presents," Matt suggested, sharing an excited look with Robin.
Everyone agreed, and the family moved to gather around the Christmas tree in the small living room. Robin settled on the love seat while Cody and Jesse took the couch. Matt squatted in front of the Christmas tree and began passing out presents. "Dad, you go first," Matt coaxed. He handed his dad a rectangular shirt-sized package and moved to sit by Robin on the love seat.
Jesse opened the box and carefully lifted the top expecting to see a new flannel shirt inside. Confusion flitted across his face as he lifted up a t-shirt that read "World's Best Grandpa." Realization dawned on him and his gaze fixed on Matt and Robin. "You mean…"
Robin blushed and nodded enthusiastically from her place tucked under Matt's arm.
"Yup!" Matt answered his dad eagerly.
"Congratulations, Son, Robin." Jesse stood and reached to hug them both. They met him halfway across the living room.
"Woohoo!" They all jumped in surprise as Cody yelled. "I'm going to be an uncle!"
Robin laughed as Cody threw his arms around her. Her thoughts skittered ahead to next Christmas when there would be a new baby to share in the hope and love.
