Notes: Valentine’s Day makes me feel cynical. I woke up this morning and listened to “You Oughta Know” by Alanis Morissete practically the whole day. But in the back of my mind I thought about the meanings of flowers. 2nd POV from Carly.

February 15th. You’re sitting on the couch, flipping through ideas for the next webcast. Your best friend is sitting on a barstool, surfing the internet with what you eventually realize is actual concentration. Sam Puckett doesn’t even concentrate that hard on food.
“What are you doing?”
“Research,” she replies shortly, as though scoffing at the word.
“...oh?” you prompt.
“Meanings of flowers,” she continues.
The lilacs Freddie gave you are sitting in a small glass vase on the kitchen table. “I want to find out if there’s a flower for ‘You’re a nerd, but I like you anyway, so try harder’,” she finishes, clicking angrily at a link.
You grin a little. “Black-eyed Susans are for ‘encouragement’,” you suggest lightly. “Close enough?” She grunts, but a minute later she’s hopping off the barstool, muttering something about wanting ham. She has that smug expression tugging at her lips, the one she wears when she’s about to pull a prank. But it’s softer, somehow.
