Closer Then They Appear

"I can't. If my mom finds out about you, she will literally dis-own me." Keely pleaded.

"I hate this. I feel like I'm invisible. To everyone."

"You are invisible silly. Don't be ashamed. There are many of people out there just like you." She tried to up his spirits. Literally.

"Yeah, but, I don't deserve this. I should be able to meet your mom, and shake her hand, and have dinner with you guys." He said.

"Phil, you're my boyfriend. I love you, to death," Keely said, immediately laughing afterward.

"Its not funny. You know one day that will actually happen. Then we'll be together forever."

"You're right." Keely confessed. "But I still can't go. You know I love you right?" Phil nodded, appreciatively. "Well, I want to go with you more then anything, but I can't. You understand, right?" He nodded once more.

Suddenly, Keely's bedroom door swung open.

"Who are you talking to?" Her youngest step-brother asked.

"No one, Logan, now go away!" She shouted.

"My dad is such an idiot, for marrying a women with a mental daughter." Logan remarked.

"Get out!" She yelled once again, while throwing a small pillow at the door, as it shut quickly.

"I am so tired, of being a no one." Phil said, walking out of the closet.

"I'm sorry. I just can't tell anyone about you. They'll think I'm a lying freak. You know that."

"Yeah, I know. I just don't like it."

"Well... I gotta get to school. I'll see ya' later. Bye." She waved, walking out the door.

Phil gave a faint goodbye, as he crawled out the window.

Keely opened the dented door of her, busted up, Geo Metro. She put the key in the ignition, and turned it slowly. The car ran fine. The only thing she worried about was the sound it made as it started. It was kind of like a raspy gasping noise. Like an old man, clearing his throught. Along with the greenish gray smoke, that flew from the engine.

Today, as Keely went to start it- as she did succeed in everyday for the past two years- it didn't start.

"Come on, Rosey. You can do it. " She cheered the name of her car.

It started. As if a ghost had given it a booster, or something.

She turned around, in her chair, and saw Phil lounging in the back seat.

"Did you fix my car?" She asked.

"Did I?" He replied sarcastically. "Well, I may have given it some help. I didn't fix it though."

She rolled her eyes.

"No more tricks, okay. I have class in ten minutes."

"OK, I'll go with you. I could use some study skills." Phil hinted.

"Phil. Out of the car, right now." She ordered him sweetly.

He stepped out, and rested his arms on the ledge of the window.

"What?" Keely questioned.

"You know what I want." He replied nonchalantly.

"Not right now. I need to go." She blew him a kiss, and backed out of the driveway.

"Dude, I swear something is up with her." Chandler, her second step-brother, said.

"I know. I caught her talking to herself, earlier. She denied it." Logan told him.

"And who did she blow a kiss to, just now?" Chandler asked.

"Oh my god! I watched this on the travel channel!" Logan shouted. "She's talking to ghosts."

Logan and Chandler looked each other. "Naww." They both said in unison.

Meanwhile, Keely pulled into the parking lot at her high school. Already three minutes late for her Homeroom.

"Ms. Teslow, I hope you just had a family member die, because there could be nothing else more important then today's lesson." Her teacher, Mr. Bernard, said.

"Nope. Just woke up late, thats all."

Mr. Bernard, growled to himself. "That is your fourth tardy this week. Detention."

"But Mr. Bernard, my mom said if I'm late one more time, she's gonna take my liscence."

Mr. Bernard, came up close to Keely's ear, and said, "Not my problem. Take it up with the principal, because you just interupted class, and disrespected a teacher, now go."

She threw her backpack upon her shoulder, and stormed out of the class. Ignoring the teacher that asked her for a hall pass, she bolted into the bathroom, picked a stall, and locked the door.

Her phone rang, a catchy tune she'd picked from Jango. Unknown call. She picked up.

"Phil?"

"Yes."

"What do you want?"

The phone hung up.

"Why don't you ask me?"

"Are you in here?"

"Next stall to your left." He said.

He peeked his head under to her stall, and crawled under.

"Why are you here?" She asked.

"I never got my morning kiss. Remember?"

"Were gonna get caught, if you keep doing this." She kissed his lips, and pushed him back against the door.

"Thank you." He said. "So how's your day going?"

"Not good. I just got detention, because you made me late."

"Hmm. That sounds like a stupid real world problem. If you came with me, you wouldn't have those."

"Phil. I told you not to pressure me."

"I'm sorry. You know, being dead has its pro's and cons. Like, you can walk through walls, mess with people, go wherever you want."

"Oh, you forgot, listening to your parents cry, taking a life, and being dead. I can't do it." She added. "I'm not even suppose to be with you. I'm only seventeen. You're like, a hundred and eighty. Also lucky I updated you."

"Yes, thank you for that."

"Phil, being a ghost whisperer, isn't easy, but I do like it. I don't think I can just give up my life, for a guy." Phil looked surprised.

"Not even me?" He shook his head, and disappeared.
