Chapter 9: Together? Maybe

Bastard!”

Sasuke groaned in his sleep. He was standing on a beach enjoying the cool breeze and a vacation that made all his worries go to away.

Bastard!”

Coal eyes looked around the sandy area looking in-between the palm trees to find the source of that voice. He didn’t want him to join him. He was the cause of so much stress. He lay down on the warm sand hoping he didn’t see him.

Bastard!”

Sasuke put his hands over his ears to cover the annoying voice that screamed his nickname that he seemed to have lately.

Bastard! If you don’t wake up, I’m going to choke you in your sleep!” The voice got louder and Sasuke grimaced.

Sasuke sat up and the beach vision disappeared and he stood in his room with Naruto glaring at him with his newly acquired red eyes. Sasuke immediately glared back since he wasn’t the best morning person.

“Bastard, you promised that you would help me set up my new room.” The blonde pouted with his eyes turning back to his usual stormy blue.

After they killed Orouchimaru Naruto was taken to the hospital only to stay for the maximum of two days. The blonde claimed he didn’t like hospitals and besides that he was completely healed within three days. Iruka and Kakashi suggested that he come live with them again but Naruto refused talking about that Sasuke would miss him. Sasuke at that thought just hit him upside his head since it was entirely false.

With some tears from Iruka and promises that Naruto go back to school, Itachi moved Sasuke’s piano downstairs in the living room. Then Naruto was supposed to go on a shopping spree at the local mall while Itachi and Sasuke bought furniture. Reluctantly though they bought orange comforters, sheets, and a twin bed that Naruto thought would go well with his now dark orange, red, and sky blue room. He had the most colorful room in the house and each time the Uchiha brothers passed by it their eyes hurt. It’s been three weeks since Naruto completely moved in but his room arrangement wasn’t done.

Sasuke was supposed to help put the bed and dressers where Naruto wanted. It was like they were taking care of a kid rather than someone Sasuke’s age.

“It’s too early in the morning.” Sasuke glared at the blonde harder who only glared back.

“It’s ten o clock though!”

“I just got home at four this morning.”

“I was with you.” Naruto snapped.

Sasuke just sighed and looked up at the ceiling feeling like knocking his head against his bedpost. He got up out of bed knowing that this conversation wasn’t going to get anywhere. Even though he only known Naruto for two months or more Naruto told him that he was his best friend. Sasuke at first was happy to hear that he was actually thought of as a best friend but when Naruto started waking him up in the morning. Following him when he went to help out the other ghosts in town, never leaving his side for more than three hours, and constant talking that grated on Sasuke’s nerves.

He felt like he died and went straight to hell. Sasuke was going to admit that he loved the attention from his blonde haired friend but he wasn’t going to admit it out loud. He stretched showing his toned abs and watching something strange flash in Naruto’s stormy blue eyes.

“Stop staring dobe.” Sasuke smirked while he went to take a shower leaving a blushing Naruto behind.

Once he was done with his shower Naruto stood outside the bathroom handing him his clothes. Sasuke just rolled his eyes and took them anyway. He dressed in dark blue baggy jeans that hung low on his hips, a white and dark blue striped polo shirt, and a small wrist band he got while Naruto went on his shopping spree. He slipped on his usual black boots since he didn’t want to ruin his shoes while they roamed around the graveyard.

“Ready?” Naruto asked.

“Hn.” Sasuke managed to get out before he went downstairs to be greeted with silence.

“Itachi went over my dads’ house.” Naruto explained noticing the look on Sasuke’s face.

One thing about Naruto is that he knew all of Sasuke’s facial expressions and understood what some grunts meant. Sasuke never knew how but if he was to grunt a certain way Naruto would know what he was talking about instantly.

They walked into the kitchen and Naruto grabbed a cup of instant ramen. “I can’t wait until tonight! Haku is going to be so excited that we found his mask last night.”

The reason why Haku was still around was because he left a mask on that was important to his big brother in the Mist City. It took them almost all night and early morning to find the mask under a bridge that happened to be named after Naruto’s father. His big brother died near the village guarding the mask and waiting for Haku to come back for it.

“I think he’s going to be upset.” Sasuke stated.

Naruto looked at him confused. “Why?”

“I don’t think he wants to leave this world.” Sasuke shrugged pulling out orange juice.

“Still didn’t explain, bastard.” Naruto glared.

Sasuke stared at him. “Hn.”

Naruto’s eyes widened knowing what Sasuke was trying to say. Haku didn’t want to leave Naruto alone and they were both their first best friends. Haku grew up as an orphan and didn’t meet his big brother until he caught a deadly disease. He was supposed to go to Konoha for medicine but ended up being robbed of his money and beat to death on the outskirts of town.

“I’m sure he would understand.” Naruto said looking down at his hands.

Sasuke frowned. “Let’s just hope so or he would turn into an evil spirit. I hate those things.”

Naruto grinned. “I never saw one! What’s it like?”

Sasuke deadpanned. “They’re evil.”

Naruto pouted. “That’s not much of a description bastard!”

Sasuke smirked. “If you want a ghost trying to kill you and use your body as a portal to the living world then go ahead and find one.”

Sasuke could see Naruto visibly shivering at the thought.

“I don’t want to see one then.” Naruto frowned.

Sasuke never liked to see Naruto frown so he tried to say something to change the subject. “It’s mostly girl ghosts.”

Naruto lightly smiled. “Really? I bet it’s for something stupid.”

“Most of the time, it’s because their boyfriend before them cheated while they committed suicide.”

“I knew it was something stupid.” He grinned.

Sasuke just continued to drink his orange juice happy that the blonde was smiling again. He didn’t know why but he always loved seeing Naruto smile. He would do anything to keep that smile on the stupid blonde’s face. It was one of the reasons why he worked so hard on Naruto’s case.

That night the two quick best friends went into the graveyard being greeted by the few ghosts that now resided there. At first almost the whole graveyard was packed with floating ghosts with all kinds of problems but now it’s just a few left. Over the past few weeks Sasuke has been working on releasing them from the world so they could move on. Naruto has been helping him do it much faster though.

They saw Haku sitting under the tree like he usually was and walked over to him with the mask in a black bag.

“Hello Sasuke and Naruto. How are you this evening?” Haku asked with a light smile.

“Awesome! We found your mask!” Naruto exclaimed happily.

Haku suddenly frowned. “What for?”

Sasuke took it out of the bag and threw it next to the ghost. “You told us that it was important to you and your brother.”

Haku stood up abruptly backing away from the both of them. “We’re you trying to send me away?”

Naruto frowned. “We just want you to rest in peace, Haku.”

Haku shook his head. “The only way I would move on is to see my brother again. You can not bring him to me. The mask is important because we were the guardians of the spirit that lived in it. Now that the mask knows it’s rightfully owners are dead then it will be released.”

“What?” Sasuke looked confused.

“Goro is the mask spirit’s name. Just wait and see.” Haku said sadly before disappearing leaving them confused.

Sasuke looked down at the mask to where he threw it next to Haku to see it missing. He looked around in a panic crashing into Naruto. Naruto being the idiot not paying attention made them fall to the ground. Sasuke closed his eyes in pain as did Naruto but when the taste of blood both filled their mouths. Eyes wide as they realized they were kissing. Sasuke blushed under the blonde while Naruto continued to stare before he pulled away.

“I wasn’t expecting that.” Naruto said sheepishly.

Sasuke pushed Naruto off of him. “What are you talking about dobe?”

Naruto helped Sasuke up even though the raven was irritated. “I wasn’t expecting our first kiss to have blood in it.”

Sasuke grimaced and glared. “This is not the time to talk about first kisses! We have to go after Goro!”

Naruto lightly laughed. “Fine bastard but when we catch him and go home, we will talk.”

Sasuke felt relieved for some reason even though there was an evil spirit on the loose. He wiped the dirt off his pants and grabbed Naruto’s hand. They ran towards the car while Sasuke activated his new Sharingan. He had a feeling this was going to be worse than Orouchimaru.

Naruto was just laughing. “Aren’t you happy?”

Sasuke raised an eyebrow. “Hn.”

He was actually agreeing with the blonde this time. He sped down the road in his car going straight towards the screams. Yes, he was happy that they were chasing an evil ghost together and maybe after the two caught it he could figure out the feelings bubbling in his chest. Maybe.
