Sam forces himself to breath slowly - in and out, in and out - and wonders where he is. His eyes quickly take in the room as if it's the first time he sees it. And in a way it is.
In and out, in and out
Dean is sitting on one of the beds, pretending to be reading, but Sam can see him glancing over at him every minute or so. He doesn't mind. Doesn't have the strength to.
In and out, in and out
Time passes and darkness turns to day. Dean goes out the door, vaguely saying something about food, but it doesn't register in Sam's brain. He gets confused and stares at the door.
…, …
He his sitting, that much he is sure of. He wonders where though. His eyes quickly take in the room as if it's the first time he sees it. And in a way it is. He knows he was doing something important, but he can't remember what. The world blurs and he feels dizzy.
…, …
He vaguely registers motion and then there is a dark shape moving in front of his vision. Distorted sounds reach his ears and hands shake him. The motion they cause is not helping, he can feel his stomach lurch.
…, …
He feels warm, too warm; it's uncomfortable. The shape is still here and it annoys him, as do those weird sounds. He closes his eyes and focuses on the sounds. They're high pitched and it feels like they're important so he listens more intently.
"Breath Sam, damnit breath,"
The words register in his brain and he remembers what it is that he had forgotten. But his mind feels dull and it's hard to concentrate now.
In and in, out and out
It hurts now and there are tears of pain in his eyes. He got it wrong he knows. The hands are on him again but they're less aggressive and more soothing. He tries again.
Out and in, in and out
His mind turns off and when it comes back on again, he realises that someone is holding him. The second thing that registers is Deans' voice. Unusually soft, whispering from somewhere above his head. The words don't register, but he doubts they really matter anyway.
In and out, in and out
It's the only thing that matters right now, so he focuses on the simple task. Breathing is enough. All the rest: he doesn't know if he has the courage to try. He doesn't know if he even wants to.
FIN.
Note: This is I think the weirder story I've ever written. I don't really know where it came from, but it somehow makes sense to me. Hope you'll enjoy it none-the-less
