Written as a response to challenge 103 on the AD/MM boards. I don't own Harry Potter.
They were dancing together; the music spinning, twirling around them. She felt at home in his arms, his warm embrace making her the happiest she had been in her life. Minerva felt the soft silk of his robes against her cheek, and she smiled happily. She felt him take her hairpins out, felt her hair fall down her back. He ran his fingers through her silken locks and she looked up at him.
"I love you, Minerva," he said, and she smiled.
"I love you, Albus," she replied. He bent down and kissed her.
Minerva woke up to the sound of her alarm clock, sighing as she felt her dream slip away from her. It had been wonderful, but she couldn't remember what it was. She climbed out of bed and entered her bathroom to prepare for the day.
She entered the Great Hall an hour later, taking her customary seat beside Albus.
"Good morning, Minerva," Albus said, smiling brightly at the secret love of his life.
"Good morning, Albus," Minerva replied, her response a bit lacklustre.
"Are you all right?" he asked her.
"Yes, I'm fine," she replied, "I just can't remember the dream I had last night."
"That is quite annoying, isn't it?" he asked, reaching over to pick up the marmalade. His sleeve brushed over her bare arm and she gasped as her dream came flooding back to her. She blushed as she remembered that he had said that he loved her, and she had replied. Standing up, she left the Great Hall, her blush staining her cheeks. Albus followed her.
"Minerva!" he called out, and she turned to him. He hurried to catch up with her. "Are you all right?"
She continued to blush, looking away from him. He caught her chin in his hand, and her breath caught in her throat as she realised their proximity. Albus stared down into her eyes, eyes that had enchanted him from the moment she had returned to Hogwarts as a teacher. He had refused to admit his feelings to her as she had once been his student, but he couldn't deny his feelings for her any longer.
"Minerva," he whispered. "I love you."
She beamed. "I love you, Albus," she replied.
He bent down and kissed her lightly, taking the pins out of her hair so that he could run his fingers through his hair, just like in the dream. She twined her arms around his neck, smiling against his lips. Their kiss now was thousands of times better than their dream kiss – because it was real. When they broke out of the kiss, he rested his forehead against hers. They heard the bell ring, and they stepped apart.
"I'll see you after class," Minerva said, and he nodded, smiling down at her.
Later that day, Minerva joined Albus in his rooms for dinner. They revelled in each other's company, chatting softly about the day. Their simple meal was made a feast by the slight brushes of her hand against his, his blue eyes twinkling at her from across the table.
After dinner, they retired to his sitting room – Minerva curled up in his arms, resting her head on his lap, while he stroked her hair softly.
"Why did you leave the Great Hall this morning?" Albus asked.
"I remembered my dream," she said, blushing slightly.
"What was it about?" he asked. She smiled and sat up, flicking her wand at the radio, which turned on.
"This," she replied, pulling him up and stepping into his arms. They began to dance, Minerva's cheek resting against his chest, and they both smiled.
