This is my next major story. The idea is broad enough that I can still bend it to my will, but refined enough that I can work with it without being overwhelmed. I plan to have fun writing it and taking my time doing so (something I honestly did not do with my last five stories), and I hope you have an equally amount of fun reading it.

This is a prologue more than anything else. Also, every two or three chapters of actual storytelling (or whenever I see fit), there will be expository chapters akin to this to provide more background on the overall plot and events leading up to the main storyline.

The Hyrule used in this story is based on Twilight Princess. For geographical, regional, political and transportation maps of Hyrule as depicted in Dominion, go to sirjoshizzle(dot)deviantart(dot)com(slash)gallery(slash)#Hyrule-Kingdom

I do not own The Legend of Zelda.

The Great Kingdom of Hyrule was known the world over as ‘the promised land’. Even those who did not follow the Hylian religion could not help but say that the country truly was blessed by the golden Goddesses themselves. It was the most geographically diverse country in the world, the largest in terms of population, physical area, political and economic standing, and was home to the longest successive ruling bloodline in history. Its mother tongue was the worldwide de facto standard, ruling many other native languages—both in and outside its borders—as secondary, obsolete and in some cases near extinction.

The country’s geographical position was both a blessing and a curse to the world. It bordered Termina to the west, Holodrum to the north, Labrynna to the east, the island country of Koholint to the south, and the Great Sea Archipelago Republic to the southwest. Hyrule dwarfed all five countries in every respect; they all heavily relied on Hyrule for whatever they could not produce themselves. Should Hyrule sever diplomatic ties with any of them, that country would surely sink into economic collapse, and possibly face public unrest against their government. No country was in any position to antagonize Hyrule. Simply put, Hyrule had the entire world wrapped around its pretty finger.

Imagine the global upheaval when Termina, without warning, declared war on Hyrule.

The officials in Hyrule Castle Town, the country’s capital, originally thought nothing of the war. Originally, Termina’s military was but a few platoons in comparison to the Grand Hylian Military. Originally, Termina had lost all diplomacy and trade with the rest of the world—whose lifelines were connected directly to Hyrule’s abundant resources. Originally, Hyrule had won the war before it had even began.

Originally, that is.

The 125th sovereign of Hyrule, His Imperial Highness Daphnes Nohansen Harkinian, was assassinated by Terminian spies in Hyrule Castle’s grand ballroom during Unification Day celebrations, the country’s national holiday. Hours later, Clock Town, Termina’s capital, had officially declared war.

The king’s only daughter, Zelda, was set to take his place. No country, or so the world thought at first, was crazy enough to challenge Hyrule; educating the royal family in warfare, it seemed, was impractical. Above all, the national government was such that the head of state also doubled as the commander-in-chief and therefore, made all the military decisions alone. A young woman completely inexperienced in the art of war and wartime politics forced to send her country’s men into a battle even the Goddesses could not have predicted.

One had to admire Termina for orchestrating such an elaborate plan.

Termina was the second largest country in the world in population, economy, military and area. While small in comparison to the behemoth to their eastern border, they still held influence over the other countries. The assassination of Daphnes Nohansen was an incredible blow to Hyrule’s morale, and the succession of the inexperienced Princess Zelda shook the world’s confidence in their largest source of subsistence. Holodrum and the Great Sea Republic soon allied themselves with Termina, and Labrynna withdrew as neutral, hoping to weather the war untouched. Hyrule’s only ally left was Koholint, an island almost smaller than Hyrule Castle Town itself. An island that relied on Hyrule for virtually everything.

No one knew Clock Town’s motive for war, if it had one at all. Hyrule Castle Town demanded answers. But all they responded with was a cryptic telegram sent to Hyrule Castle.

Let the world witness history. July 1 will mark beginning of the fall of the Great Kingdom of Hyrule.”

Negotiations were impossible. World order was destroyed. The Terminian Army was beginning to mobilize. Hyrule had no choice but to prepare itself for battle.

That's it for chapter one. Hope you enjoyed. :)

Enjoy Life and Smile.
