It's Fate
Chapter 1
“Alexander!” My eyes grew as he climbed through my window.
“Sarah! Listen to me. Whatever happens, you must keep running!” He told me.
I stared at him confused. Then I heard it. The war had started. I shook as tears ran down my face.
“Sarah, I made a terrible mistake, but you must do what I tell you. It’s the only way to keep you safe.” He explained urgently.
“No, I don’t want to leave you Alexander!” I sobbed.
The castle shook as the White Witch’s army attacked again and again.
“There’s no time, Sarah. You are our last hope! Take this.” Alexander took the gold necklace out of his pocket and put it in the palm of my hand. He closed my hand around it.
“Sarah. If something happens to me…” He started.
“No! Nothing will happen to you!” I cried harder.
He pulled me into a hug. I buried my face in his neck as I tried to block out the sounds of screams and swords from downstairs. We broke out of our hug.
“Remember Sarah. Run as fast as you can. Take Blaise. Don’t stop, and don’t look back. And whatever you do, don’t ever lose the necklace. The rightful throne is the only one able to wear it and it holds all Narnian power, and the ability to contriol it. This is the necklace that the White Witch wants.”
I glanced down at the gold necklace, with a small red lion hanging on it. “I won’t lose it.” I promised.
He looked at me with tears in his eyes. “Go.” He opened the secret door that led to the stables. “Go!”
PRESENT
“Did you hear? Did you hear?”
I glanced up from the soup I was finishing off.
Mrs. Otter came running through the door of her small cottage.
I shook my head no. I had no idea what Mrs. Otter was excited about.
“It’s great! It’s huge! Oh dear…” She said, highly excited.
“Why don’t you sit down dear, and tell us what is happening?” Mr. Otter suggested.
“Right, right of course.” Mrs. Otter sat down beside me. “So, I just went to visit Fox, and she says that Aslan is on the move!”
Silence. For a split second, Mr. Otter and I stared at Mrs. Otter completely dumbfounded.
“What?” I yelped. “Since when? Why? When did this start?”
“Calm down, both of you!” Mr. Otter commanded. Mrs. Otter and I were both hysterical.
“Obviously he came back for a reason. The end...” Mr. Otter said the last part hesitantly. They always spoke like that, whenever suggesting that the White Witch’s rule was over.
“Yes. Fox told me that two sons of Adam and two daughters of Eve are here.” Mrs. Otter told us.
I stood up, making my decision.
“Then I must go to them.” I said.
“Are you sure about this?” Mr. Otter asked.
I nodded. “Positive.”
“Alright. Let’s get you prepared then.” Mr. Otter sighed.
I quickly got changed into traveling clothes. I was wearing boy’s clothes, actually. A midnight blue shirt and black pants. I didn’t want to be noticed by the wrong crowd. I grabbed my belt with two swords and a dagger, and put it on.
It had been a present from my family before the war. They knew I preferred swords, and the dagger had been from Father Christmas.
I lightly grabbed the necklace around my neck, checking it was on tightly. It was the only thing left of my parents and my older brother. Till this day, I didn’t know if they were alive.
I put on a traveling cloak, also black, and filled a bag with food and a blanket.
Mr. and Mrs. Otter followed me out. “You should head over to the Beaversdam. That’s were the children are going to go. Mr. Beaver is with them.”
I nodded. I saddled my horse Blaise up. She was completely black, with a white blaze down her forehead.
“Another adventure where we swoop in to be the heroes?” Blaise asked.
I smiled. “No, not this time. Sorry Blaise.”
“We’ll be arriving at Aslan’s camp a few days after you.” Mr. Otter said.
“Okay. Thank you both for letting me stay here!” I told them.
“It was our pleasure!” Mrs. Otter said.
I hugged them both. I tied back my wavy blond hair with a clip, and lowered my hood over my head. I quickly jumped onto Blaise’s back. She took off galloping.
“We have to go to the Beaversdam, okay?” I asked.
“Why?” Blaise questioned.
“Because the ones who are going to save Narnia are here.” I answered.
“The end is coming!” Blaise said, excitedly.
“Yes.” I nodded, slightly doubtful.
“What’s wrong, your majesty?” Blaise asked.
“Well, I’m surprised the White Witch didn’t mess with any of their heads. And another thing. Why couldn’t I see them coming?” I was completely confused.
Blaise didn’t answer, which meant he didn’t know either.
What would Alexander do? I asked myself.
Well, Alexander, my older brother, is, or was, gifted in battles. His gift received to him by the faeries of the Eastern Woods was the ability to sense any attack on himself, or an army he was fighting with. Everyone was very confused by our powers, and I had to explain it to the Otter’s. You see, my ancestors are the great King Frank and Queen Helen. They ruled Narnia happily, and all the creatures loved them. The faeries of the Eastern Woods told them that all the royal babies would be blessed with gifts. Actually, Alexander and I are half faerie on our dad’s side, so we have small, handy magic, like being able to levitate things, or moving things with our mind. On our mom’s side, we’re a quarter red dwarf. Of course, I got those genes, and Alexander didn’t. So I’m shorter than average height, but can still pass for my age. Alexander is a giant, getting my dad’s height. So each baby was born with a special gift, from the faeries. My gift was the ability to see the future. Sometimes the visions caused me pain, if they were far away, or very intense. Sometimes they came to me a minute before it happened. I was still learning on how to control it. Hey, I’m only 11. Actually, I’ve been eleven for one hundred years. The White Witch came into Narnia and destroyed everything we built. She destroyed my brother, tricking him. She froze time, and everyone is stuck at an age. Time still goes on, but we are frozen at a certain time. When she is defeated, time will start again.
Blaise’s voice brought me back to reality. “We’re here, your majesty.”
I groaned. “Seriously. It’s Sarah!” I preferred being called by my name.
I got off Blaise’s back and walked to the door. Blaise followed me. I knocked, but no one answered. I slowly opened the door. The place looked ransacked. Food and furniture was all over the place. My eyes swept the room, and I felt anger build up inside me. Those wolves…
Then I spotted the open escape tunnel. They must have gottten away!
“Come on Blaise, we have to go to the end of the escape tunnel.” I announced.
I got back and Blaise and we took off again.
”What do you think they’re like?” Blaise asked, curiously.
I shrugged. “Helpful, hopefully. Aslan transported them here, and he knows what he’s doing.”
Blaise was quiet. “I hope too many people haven’t lost faith.”
“Yes,” I said. “Me too.”
Aslan hadn’t showed up for one hundred years. I had desperately tried to make sure everyone kept their faith, but a lot of creatures had turned their backs on me.
It was getting very dark. I knew that we were getting really close to the tunnel’s exit. Then I heard a growl. Blaise stopped. I listened intently, as I slowly drew out one of my swords.
“Look. It’s the humans. And beavers.” One said.
“She told us to get the humans alive. But that doesn’t mean we can’t push them around first.” The other laughed.
My anger intensified.
I could see the beavers and humans talking obliviously in the clearing.
Blaise’s ears were tight against his head. On her neck, I traced out a plan. Blaise and I did this a lot. When we couldn’t speak, I would tell him the plan on his neck. He would feel a series of diagrams, and he would understand the plan.
“Now!” I screamed.
I brought my sword down as I attacked the two Minotaurs. They weren’t expecting me, and I drove them into the clearing, before the shocked eyes of the beavers and the humans. The Minotaurs quickly got their weapons out, and I started fighting them. There was only one way out of this fight. Kill them.
Blaise had been with me practically forever, and he knew all of my fighting techniques. We worked well together, and we quickly killed both Minotaurs.
I slid off Blaise’s back, my hood still covering my face. Blaise stood beside me, breathing slightly hard.
Mr. Beaver came forward hesitantly, and I saw three humans in the background. The boy had the two girls behind him. All three pair of eyes were wide.
“Thank you sir.” Mr. Beaver said.
“Well that was awesome!” Blaise said gleefully. “I guess we did swoop in to be the heroes!”
Everyone looked slightly shocked.
I smiled, and took off my hood. Both Mr. and Mrs. Beaver’s eyes went wide.
“Princess!”
“Sarah.” I corrected.
“Yes, of course! Sarah, it’s very good to see you!” Mrs. Beaver said.
I smiled in answer. I shifted my gaze to the three humans. One boy and girl looked older than me, and the other girl looked younger.
I grinned, and went over to them.
“I’m assuming you’re the humans who are here to save Narnia?” I asked.
“Umm, that’s what we’ve been told.” The older girl said.
“Well, where is the fourth?” I asked.
They were silent.
“He… betrayed them. To the White Witch.” Mr. Beaver said.
“Betrayed them.” I repeated. I had heard this before. Alexander.
“Our brother is not at fault!” The older boy snapped, thinking I didn’t like the other brother. I raised my eyebrows. This boy radiated guilt and denial.
“No,” I agreed. “He had anger and fear, didn’t he, which fuelled the White Witch’s power.”
“What are trying to say?” The boy said, angrily.
“I’m saying that your brother has some fault, but he was not pushed to do this by himself.” I answered coolly. This guy bugged me.
The younger girl walked toward me. The boy reached out to stop her. “How do we know you’re trustworthy?”
Mr. Beaver opened his mouth, but I glance at him and he closed it.
I was seriously angry at this guy. I had just saved his life, and this is how he talked to me?
“Did you know that you actually have no right to talk to me like that?” I asked smoothly.
“And why not?” He asked. That’s what made me snap. He was talking like he was already crowned King of Narnia. Didn’t he know, that no matter what, I would always rule above him?
“Because I’m a princess.” I exploded.
Silence.
“Damn.” I muttered.
I turned to Blaise. “Maybe we should leave.”
The youngest girl ran to me before the boy could stop her.
“I’m sorry that we got you angry.” She said. “But I’m Lucy!” She told me.
My anger slowly ebbed away, until I smiled. Lucy could just cheer you up. “Sarah.” I replied.
She looked slightly confused. “Should I call you Sarah, or princess, or something like that?”
“Well, when you become crowned, would you like people always referring to you as ‘majesty’?” I asked.
She thought for a second. “No, I guess not.” The she pointed. “That’s Susan and Peter. My other brother is Edmund, and we really hope Aslan can save him.” She said sincerely.
I smiled. I hoped so too.
