Mikeala Banes sat outside on her rickety old porch with tears slightly running down her eyes. She stared out into the nothingness not really focusing on anything as she listened to the bickering going on between mother, and older brother. Their fighting had become too much to bare so she went outside to drown out the noise. It had gotten so bad lately she was starting to get sick of it. With the stress of her dad being in jail they’d resorted to fighting about the most silliest things. They may have been silly but they were still incredibly annoying, and heartbreaking.
Just once I wish they'd get along. She thought to herself with a deep sigh. Looking about for a moment she made sure no one was around. Once she was sure the coast was clear she shuffled about a bit she dug into the old cabinet on the porch and found her father's private stash of alcohol. She wasn't really a drinker but ever since she was fourteen it seemed to be the best way to drown her sorrows when she was upset.
Popping open the bottle she held it out in front of her. "Cheers." She toasted to the invisible air. Then began to tip the bottle up so she could take a drink of mind numbing remedy.
"You know you shouldn't be drinking that." A voice out of nowhere spoke.
This startled Mikeala making her drop the bottle abruptly and spit out the beer. She coughed trying to catch her breath when her eyes widened seeing an out of place yellow Hummer H2 Search and Rescue SUV with red stripes at it's side in her driveway. "I forgot you were here. How can you big hulking 'bots be so silent?" she said half to herself half to him as she tried her best to change the subject.
The ambulance didn’t buy it and ignored her question entirely. "You do know that could damage your health plus the fact that it is illegal for human younglings under the age of twenty one to drink. Isn't that right?"
Mikeala muttered under her breath but knew her guardian had caught her. "Yes Ratchet it is." She got up dumping the nearly full bottle of beer into the drainage ditch then tossed the bottle in the nearby recycle bin. "There I got rid of it didn't even get to finish my first drop. Are you happy now?" she snapped a little moody as the door of the hummer opened on it's own accord. She slumped into the front passengers seat.
After a few moments of silence he spoke up on the radio. /Quite. / when she didn't respond him he spoke again in a more gentle but still stern tone. /I just don't want you to get hurt Mikeala. After learning so much about your culture on the Internet I know what happens to a lot of your femme kind. I'm only trying to protect you. /
"I know you are Ratchet. It was stupid of me to do it. I just wanted something to drown out all the yelling inside the house." She said patting the dashboard. Then Mikeala heard another scream and felt the autobot tremble beneath her as if flinching.
/Yes your pod certainly takes a lot of time using their vocal processors to yell at each other. / Ratchet said agreeingly then added more firmly. /But intoxicating yourself won't help you or them. / Scanning his young passenger could tell her body temperature was dropping taking precaution he turned on the heater.
Feeling the warmth suddenly coming into the car Mikeala smiled. "Thanks." she said gratefully it was true she had been getting pretty cold out there and the heat was a welcome relief.
/Your welcome. / the autobot replied.
Sighing Mikeala felt the seat gently tip back just a little as much as it could and closed her eyes. All the autobots were almost like family to them. They'd been there for them so much since they came it was hard to believe she was here. Both she and Sam were comfortable with their guardians and the rest of the bots. It almost in a way felt as if Ratchet had put it 'pod'. And she wouldn't have it any other way. Thanks for looking out for me big guy. she said in her thoughts.
