Herbert paid for his lunch and retreated to what was viewed as his corner of the cafeteria. His left hand automatically went up to bury itself in his hair as he sat down, a science book open before him. This was his typical routine. They others ignored him, and he did likewise; it was preferred to be kept that way.
Besides, they all thought he was crazy anyway. Except for that one horror, who, along with her friend Vlad, was just as much of an outcast herself.
"Hiya Herb!" she said in what would be by her definition be called perkily. "Heaven help us" he muttered as she sat down. "You like My Chemical Romance then?" "What?" he asked, slightly taken aback. "My Chemical Romance." she repeated, munching on an apple as Vlad came over. "They have a song called Heaven Help Us. Want to hear a few lines?" "NO, thank you" Herbert said as politely as he could with his lips pursed.
"Hrrm, hello" Vlad interjected as he sat down. From what he could gather from Cassie's incessant babbling whenever he had the misfortune to have her corner him, he was a nice guy, but misunderstood.
Hebert scoffed before mistakenly taking a bite of what was supposed to be something edible on his lunch tray. He had forgotten that the only digestible thing in the cafeteria was the fruit, as Cassie seemed to have remembered. As he unscrewed his face, he saw a pear in front of him.
"Need something edible? You can't live off of that toxic sludge they call Salisbury steak." "Thank you" he said quietly.
Yes, he was ignored by the general population. But it was nice to know that he wasn't completely alone in that respect.
