Wow, an update. As per request.

English, secretly one of Herbert West's favorite subjects. He took his usual place in the back of the room. He would never admit it, bu he chose this place for a reason: after his first few days of class, he had noticed the girl, April. From where he was sitting, he could stare at her without anyone taking notice of it. From where she sat, it would appear to anyone who cared to look that he was giving nothing less than rapt attention to the teacher. Every class period, she would answers one of the teacher's questions with such a deep, seemingly well-thought answer that he knew had required no thought at all. He knew that the thought had just become, and that was how intelligent she was, to be able to infuse such a simple question with deep psychological thought.
He heard the teacher ask him a question, and he hurriedly gave the correct answer, feeling a bit nervous as he felt April's gaze upon him. He spent the rest of the class staring at his binder.

Herbert had a few friends, named Elizabeth and Harmony. If he hung out with anyone, he hung out with them. They were his age, and the "coolest" people he'd ever met. He enjoyed hanging out with them, and he would see them later that afternoon, after school.

Herbert was sitting at a bench on the campus grounds, where he and the girls usually met after school. He was working on his science homework, his favorite kind, to keep himself busy while he waited for the girls. After a few minutes, he heard them come up.
"Herbert, we brought someone to hang out" Harmony said. "Who?" He looked up, and Elizabeth stepped out of the way, and he saw April. Herbert's heart quietly went out behind a shed and shot itself from shock. While trying to lose as little dignity a possible, Herbert said hello, and returned to his homework.
